Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts near the Christina River in Wilmington, DE is an adaptive reuse of the historic Harlan and Hollingsworth rail car shop. Designed by Moeckel Carbonell Associates, the project features dramatic industrial architecture with vaulted ceilings, exposed ducts and steel beams.

The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, founded in 1979, explores topical issues in contemporary art and society. DCCA presents a variety of educational and outreach programs, gallery tours of ever-changing exhibits, and programs that integrate contemporary arts into the public school curriculum, featuring collaboration with underserved community groups. Executive Director Maxine Gaiber discusses the organizations impact with Paul Weagraff.
Fusion: Allen C. Smith & Connie Zehr
The Fusion of glass, sand, and colorful paintings punctuate The Delaware Contemporary's newest exhibition by the complimentary, yet distinct, work of artists Allen C. Smith and Connie Zehr. The organic materials of Zehr's sand and glass installations paired with Smith's energetic, brightly colored oil paintings serve as symbols of metaphysical experience and observation.

Wilmington, Delaware
Wilmington (Lenape: Paxahakink, Pakehakink) is the largest city in the state of Delaware, United States, and is located at the confluence of the Christina River and Brandywine Creek, near where the Christina flows into the Delaware River. It is the county seat of New Castle County and one of the major cities in the Delaware Valley metropolitan area. Wilmington was named by Proprietor Thomas Penn after his friend Spencer Compton, Earl of Wilmington, who was prime minister in the reign of George II of Great Britain.
According to the 2010 census, the population of the city is 70,851, a decrease of 2.4% from 2000.

Dover is the capital and second-largest city in the U.S. state of Delaware. It is also the county seat of Kent County, and the principal city of the Dover, DE Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Kent County and is part of the Philadelphia-Wilmington-Camden, PA-NJ-DE-MD Combined Statistical Area. It is located on the St. Jones River in the Delaware River coastal plain. It was named by William Penn for Dover in Kent, England. As of 2010, the city had a population of 36,047.
First recorded in its Latinised form of Portus Dubris, the name derives from the Brythonic word for waters (dwfr in Middle Welsh). The same element is present in the towns French (Douvres) and Modern Welsh (Dofr) forms. The city is named after Dover, Kent in England.
Dover was founded as the court town for newly established Kent County in 1683 by William Penn, the proprietor of the territory generally known as the Lower Counties on the Delaware. Later, in 1717, the city was officially laid out by a special commission of the Delaware General Assembly. The capital of the state of Delaware was moved here from New Castle in 1777 because of its central location and relative safety from British raiders on the Delaware River. Because of an act passed in October 1779, the assembly elected to meet at any place in the state they saw fit, meeting successively in Wilmington, Lewes, Dover, New Castle, and Lewes again, until it finally settled down permanently in Dover in October 1781. The city's central square, known as The Green, was the location of many rallies, troop reviews, and other patriotic events. To this day, The Green remains the heart of Dover's historic district and is the location of the Delaware Supreme Court and the Kent County Courthouse.
Dover was most famously the home of Caesar Rodney, the popular wartime leader of Delaware during the American Revolution. He is known to have been buried outside Dover, but the precise location of his grave is unknown. A cenotaph in his honor is erected in the cemetery of the Christ Episcopal Church near The Green in Dover.
Dover and Kent County were deeply divided over the issue of slavery, and the city was a stop on the Underground Railroad because of its proximity to slave-holding Maryland and free Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It was also home to a large Quaker community that encouraged a sustained emancipation effort in the early 19th century. There were very few slaves in the area, but the institution was supported, if not practiced, by a small majority, who saw to its continuation.
The Bradford-Loockerman House, Building 1301, Dover Air Force Base, John Bullen House, Carey Farm Site, Christ Church, Delaware State Museum Buildings, John Dickinson House, Dover Green Historic District, Eden Hill, Delaware Governor's Mansion, Greenwold, Hughes-Willis Site, Loockerman Hall, Macomb Farm, Mifflin-Marim Agricultural Complex, Old Statehouse, Palmer Home, Town Point, Tyn Head Court, and Victorian Dover Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 22.7 square miles (59 km2), of which 22.4 square miles (58 km2) is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2), or 1.32%, is water.

Rehoboth Beach is also known as one of the mid-Atlantic coast's popular LGBT Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender - gay-friendly getaways because of the large number of gay-owned and operated businesses and because of the gay-frequented stretch of beach near Queen Street, known as Poodle Beach.

Rehoboth (Hebrew: רְחוֹבוֹת) means broad spaces. It appears three times in the Old Testament as a place name: a well dug by Isaac (at modern Wadi er-Ruheibeh) (Gen. 26:22), a city on the Euphrates River (Gen. 36:37; 1 Chr. 1:48), and one of the cities of Asshur (Gen. 10:11). Hence the name may have had a special appeal for the religious founders of the city, although the adjacent bay had already borne the name Rehoboth for at least a century before the town was founded.
In September CAMP Rehoboth Community Center / Letters from CAMP magazine hosts an annual Labor Day weekend event called SUNDANCE with an fundraiser auction and dance party at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.
CAMP Rehoboth is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, gay and lesbian community service organization, originally developed to “Create A More Positive” relationship among all the people of the Rehoboth Beach area.
Each October Rehoboth Beach hosts the Annual Sea Witch Halloween & Fiddlers Festival ( Happy Halloween - The Blessed Samhain Festival - Autumn Holidays Celebration) with a parade, Trick or Treat, and the very popular broom tossing event right at the beach.
There is a summer bus service that makes it easy for beach goes to travel easily between Rehoboth Beach Delaware and Ocean City Maryland.

Movable Feast is a public art project developed by artists Hoyun Son & Jung-A Woo in 2009, that maps a diverse cultural landscape through food.
Through out our Artist in Residency with Delaware Center for Contemporary Art in summer 2011, the artists, youth group-Latin America Community Center (LACC), and horticulture society will research and gather local edible weeds; collect, map, and illustrate recipes from family, friends, and neighbors; plan and design a Feast Event-cook and share food with the public in and around a mobile kitchen built by the community. During the process, Movable Feast activities has been documented by the participants on a collaborative website.

Number 1 : The Brooklyn Bridge,
The Brooklyn Bridge, which was completed in 1883 and connects Manhattan and Brooklyn by spanning the East River in New York City, is arguably one of the most famous bridges in the eastern United States.
The Brooklyn Bridge is a suspension bridge that measures 5,988 feet long, and its longest span is 1,595 feet.
Number 2 : George Washington Bridge,
Another New York City bridge that is a must-see for all road travelers, the George Washington Bridge spans the Hudson River and connects New Jersey and the borough of Manhattan.
This bridge has a total length of 4,757 feet and a maximum single span of 3,609 feet.
Originally, when the double-decker suspension bridge opened in 1931, it had just 1 level. However, as the U.S. interstate system was being developed, a second level was added to the George Washington Bridge in 1962 and the bridge became part of Interstate 95, which connects Florida to Maine.
The last time I traveled over this bridge, which was in 2000, the World Trade Center and Empire State Building could be seen peeking over the Manhattan skyline to the east and south. The world’s largest free-flying American flag, measuring 90 feet long by 60 feet wide, now hangs off the George Washington Bridge in honor of 9/11.
Number 3 : Delaware Memorial Bridge,
Crossing the Delaware River and connecting Wilmington, Delaware to south New Jersey, the Delaware Memorial Bridge is another grand bridge that, like the George Washington Bridge, belongs to Interstate 95.
The Delaware Memorial Bridge was originally opened in 1951 as a single span, but in 1968 the current westbound span was completed. This steel suspension bridge has a maximum span of 2,150 feet and is 10,796 feet long.
Number 4 : The Chesapeake Bay Bridge,
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge was first built in 1952 and is also called William Preston Lane, Jr. Memorial Bridge, in honor of the man who served as Maryland’s governor when the span was originally dedicated.
The bridge connects the eastern and western shores of Maryland and was expanded in 1973, when the current westbound span was constructed.
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge, which is roughly 5 miles long and 186 feet at its highest point, has long been considered as one of the scariest bridges in the world. Why? When it storms there (and violent storms aren’t uncommon in eastern Maryland), it can be nearly impossible to see any land when you’re on top of the bridge! Thankfully, there is a Chesapeake Bay Bridge driving assistance service available for those with gephyrophobia – the fear of bridges.
Number 5 : Golden Gate Bridge,
If the Brooklyn Bridge is the most popular span on the East Coast, then the Golden Gate Bridge easily takes the top spot among the most famous bridges on the West Coast.
The Golden Gate Bridge was opened in 1937 and has been designated as one of the Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
The main span of the bridge measures an impressive 4,200 feet and has the longest main span of any suspension bridge in the world until 1964.
One irony that many people note about the Golden Gate Bridge is that, despite its name, the bridge isn’t actually golden. Why’s that? The bridge spans the Golden Gate strait, which is a 1-mile wide channel between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. For the record, the Golden Gate Bridge is painted in a color called International Orange.

Delaware Folk Art at Blue Ball Barn - Wilmington, DE
Blue Ball Barn, the only State run folk art museum in the country features paintings, sculptures, quilts, carvings, salvage and outsider art as well as meet the artist gallery talks. Artist Eunice LaFate gave a presentation during my visit. Barn named after Blue Ball Tavern and built in 1914 by Alfred duPont was once part of the Nemours estate. It is an example of preservation and adaptive reuse of a historic structure and the centerpiece of Alapocas Run State Park.
