Las Vegas is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Nevada and the county seat of Clark County.[5] Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city known primarily for gambling, shopping, fine dining, and nightlife and is the leading financial and cultural center for Southern Nevada. The city bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, and is famous for its consolidated casino--hotels and associated entertainment. A growing retirement and family city, Las Vegas is the 31st-most populous city in the United States, with a population at the 2010 census of 583,756. The 2010 population of the Las Vegas metropolitan area was 1,951,269. Today, Las Vegas is one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
The major attractions in Las Vegas are the casinos and the hotels. Most of the hotel casinos are in the city's downtown area, which has been the focal point of the city's gaming industry since its early days.
Most casinos are downtown on the Fremont Street Experience, The Stratosphere being the major exception. Fremont East, adjacent to the Fremont Street Experience, was granted variances to allow bars to be closer together, similar to the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, the goal being to attract a different demographic than the Strip attracts.
Las Vegas got its start with casinos in 1931 with the opening of the Northern Club (now the La Bayou).[31][32] The most notable of the early casinos may have been Binion's Horseshoe (now Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel) while it was run by Benny Binion. Boyd Gaming has a major presence downtown operating the California Hotel and Casino, Fremont Hotel and Casino and the Main Street Casino. The Golden Gate Hotel and Casino is the oldest hotel in the Fremont Street Experience. The Golden Nugget is the largest hotel and casino in the city. The Plaza Hotel & Casino on Main Street was the railway station until Amtrak discontinued service. Other casinos include the El Cortez, The D, Four Queens, Gold Spike Hotel and Casino and the Las Vegas Club.
The gambling and entertainment industry in Las Vegas is mostly focused in the Las Vegas Strip. The Strip is not actually located in city limits, but instead in the surrounding unincorporated communities of Paradise and Winchester. The largest and most notable casinos and buildings are located there.

Las Vegas Strip, Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, North America
The Las Vegas Strip is an approximately 4.2-mile (6.8 km) stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard South in Clark County, Nevada. Unknown to many travelers outside of Nevada, The Strip is not located within the City of Las Vegas but it passes through the unincorporated towns of Paradise and Winchester, which are south of the Las Vegas city limits. Most of the Strip has been designated an All-American Road, and has a unique distinction of being a scenic route during nighttime. Many of the largest hotel, casino, and resort properties in the world are located on the Las Vegas Strip. Fifteen of the world's 25 largest hotels by room count are on the Strip, with a total of over 62,000 rooms. One of the most visible aspects of Las Vegas' cityscape is its use of dramatic architecture. The modernization of hotels, casinos, restaurants, and residential high-rises on the Strip has established the city as one of the most popular destinations for tourists. Historically, the casinos that were not in Downtown Las Vegas along Fremont Street were restricted to outside of the city limits on Las Vegas Boulevard. In 1959 the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign was constructed exactly 4.5 miles (7.2 km) outside of the city limits. The sign is today about 0.4 miles (0.64 km) south of the southernmost entrance to Mandalay Bay (the southernmost casino). In the strictest sense, the Strip refers only to the stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard that is roughly between Sahara Avenue and Russell Road, a distance of 4.2 miles (6.8 km). However, the term is often used to refer not only to the road but also to the various casinos and resorts that line the road, and even to properties which are not on the road but in proximity. Phrases such as Strip Area, Resort Corridor or Resort District are sometimes used to indicate a larger geographical area, including properties 1 mile (1.6 km) or more away from Las Vegas Boulevard, such as the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The traditional definition considers the Strip's northern terminus as the now-defunct Sahara Casino, though travel guides typically extend it to include the Stratosphere, 0.4 miles (0.64 km) to the north. At one time, the southern end of the Strip was Tropicana Avenue, but continuing construction has extended this boundary to Russell Road. Mandalay Bay is located just north of Russell Road and is the southernmost resort considered to be on the Strip. Because of the number and size of the resorts, the Resort Corridor can be quite wide. Interstate 15 runs roughly parallel and 0.5 to 0.8 miles (0.80 to 1.3 km) to the west of Las Vegas Boulevard for the entire length of the Strip. Paradise Road runs to the east in a similar fashion, and ends at St. Louis Avenue. The eastern side of the Strip is bounded by McCarran International Airport south of Tropicana Avenue. North of this point, the Resort Corridor can be considered to extend as far east as Paradise Road, although some consider Koval Lane as a less inclusive boundary. Interstate 15 is sometimes considered the western edge of the Resort Corridor from Interstate 215 to Spring Mountain Road. North of this point, Industrial Road serves as the western edge. The famous Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is located in the median just south of Russell Road, across from the now-demolished Klondike Hotel & Casino; another similar sign is in the median at the north end of the Strip near the intersection of East St. Louis and South Main Streets. Newer resorts such as South Point and the M Resort are on Las Vegas Boulevard South as distant as 8 miles south of the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. Marketing for these casinos usually states that they are on southern Las Vegas Boulevard and not Strip properties. However this area is frequently referred to as the South Strip. The first casino to be built on Highway 91 was the Pair-o-Dice Club in 1931, but the first on what is currently the Strip was the El Rancho Vegas, opening on April 3, 1941, with 63 rooms. That casino stood for almost 20 years before being destroyed by a fire in 1960. Its success spawned a second hotel on what would become the Strip, the Hotel Last Frontier, in 1942. Organized crime figures such as New York's Bugsy Siegel took interest in the growing gaming center leading to other resorts such as the Flamingo, which opened in 1946, and the Desert Inn, which opened in 1950. The funding for many projects was provided through the American National Insurance Company, which was based in the then notorious gambling empire of Galveston, Texas.
Fremont Street Experience | Las Vegas Nevada
The Fremont Street Experience (FSE) is a pedestrian mall and attraction in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. The FSE occupies the westernmost five blocks of Fremont Street, including the area known for years as Glitter Gulch, and portions of some other adjacent streets.
The central attraction is a barrel vault canopy, 90 ft (27 m) high at the peak and four blocks, or approximately 1,375 ft (419 m), in length.
While Las Vegas is known for never turning the outside casino lights off, each show begins by turning off the lights on all of the buildings, including the casinos, under the canopy. Before each show, one bidirectional street that crosses the Experience is blocked off for safety reasons.
Concerts, usually free, are also held on three stages. The venue has become a major tourist attraction for downtown Las Vegas, and is also the location of the SlotZilla zip line attraction and the city's annual New Year's Eve party, complete with fireworks on the display screen.(source: wikipedia)

Fashion Show Mall, Las Vegas Strip, Paradise, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, North America
Fashion Show Mall is a shopping mall located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. Fashion Show Mall is owned by the General Growth Properties Inc. With 1,888,151 sq ft (175,415.0 m2) of space, this is one of the largest enclosed malls in the world. The mall has over 250 stores, 7 anchors, an elevated stage, a fashion runway and The Cloud. Fashion shows take place in the mall every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Damien Duduaco, Justin Thomas, Robert Flynn, Mike Miller, Keith Vass and other local models are free to watch. During the Winter months, the mall has scheduled snow storms inside. Santa Claus also makes special appearances, even giving a high-energy performance on the runway with his group of elf helpers. The mall opened in 1981 with Dillard's, Bullock's, Goldwaters, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue (originally only 64,000 sq ft (5,900 m2). In 2003, Neiman Marcus expanded from 102,000 sq ft (9,500 m2) to 160,000 sq ft (15,000 m2), Saks Fifth Avenue and Dillard's both relocated in the west end of the mall,[citation needed] and Macy's and Robinsons-May expanded as well. A whole west end was added to the mall, adding 500,000 sq ft (46,000 m2) of store space, including The Great Hall, where fashion shows are performed throughout the day. Bloomingdale's Home (first in the nation) and Nordstrom opened in the west end of the mall as well. Lord & Taylor was scheduled to open in the former spot of Dillard's, as part of the mall's east expansion, but the Lord & Taylor chain halted its national expansion plans and canceled its store there in 2003. In July 2010, Forever 21 opened in this space, featuring what was then the largest Forever 21 retail store in the United States. Also, as part of the east expansion completed in 2003, four full-service restaurants, a 16-option food court and The Cloud were added on the front side of Fashion Show, facing Las Vegas Blvd. Rouse, the previous owner, was purchased by General Growth Properties in 2004. On September 9, 2006, following Federated's purchase of May Department Stores, Robinsons-May became the second Macy's store at Fashion Show. The second Macy's closed in January 2008 and is in the process of consolidating with the existing Macy's store. The Cloud, at The Strip entrance is about 128 ft (39 m) above the sidewalk and is 480 ft (150 m) long. During the day, the structure provides shade for the entrance and at night it serves as a movie screen. The mall features several high end restaurants, some accessible from private entrances and elevators so they may operate when the mall is closed.
