SANTA FE, USA - travel shorts
Welcome to 'the city different,' a place that makes its own rules without ever forgetting its long and storied past. Walking through its historic neighborhoods, or around the busy Plaza that remains its core, there's no denying that Santa Fe has a timeless, earthy soul. Founded around 1610, Santa Fe is the second-oldest city and the oldest state capital in the US, and is all but unique in having not only preserved many of its seductive original adobe buildings, but also insisted that all new downtown structures follow the same architectural style. And yet, despite being home to the country’s oldest public building and throwing its oldest annual party, Fiesta, Santa Fe is also synonymous with contemporary chic, thanks to its thriving art market, gourmet restaurants, great museums, upscale spas and world-class opera.
At over 7000ft above sea level, Santa Fe is also the nation’s highest state capital. Sitting at the foot of the glowing Sangre de Cristo range, it makes a fantastic base for hiking, mountain biking, backpacking and skiing. When you come off the trails, you can indulge in chile-smothered local cuisine, buy turquoise and silver directly from Native American jewelers in the Plaza, visit remarkable churches, or simply wander along centuries-old, cottonwood-shaded lanes and daydream about some day moving here.
Santa Fe’s mind-boggling assortment of characters include traditional and avant-garde artists, New Age hippy transplants, Spanish families that have called the city home for centuries, Mexican immigrants, retirees from both coasts, and more than a few Hollywood producers and movie stars. Most are drawn above all by the relaxed attitude, the sense of space, the unbeatable climate and that certain something that gives Santa Fe a singularly alluring essence.
INN OF THE GOVERNORS

My First Visit To Santa Fe, New Mexico: Like No Where Else!❄️
SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO EXPLORATION!!!
Leaving Fort Lauderdale, FL for New Mexico was an adventure. I have never been to The Land of Enchantment till now, and I had no preconceived notions of what to expect. I DID, however, know that it would be considerably colder...and it was. That made the three-day visit (made possible by being selected to attend an upper echelon business conference) an experience that was a gift in a very real sense.
I felt an aura of quiet and calm in Santa Fe that one rarely experiences in Fort Lauderdale, except perhaps right before or after the presence of a hurricane! No, this was different. It was as if the spirits of Lakota Sioux, Navajo and Hopi were through me and around me. I could sense the presence of those who lived here before on this serene Sunday morn. I walked the hallowed paths in awe of this now-compartmentalized culture of the Native American. It now exists in our reservations, out of the view of most Americans. Yet, here I was in its epicentre, and I knew that our aboriginal culture was not confined to just a few dusty settlements that are scattered throughout the Four Corners Region. No, it was with me, and I with it!
What follows is my first experience in this grand land of Big Sky and jagged peaks. I hope that you enjoy this discovery journey along with me, and feel the greatness of what is now named New Mexico, along with me!

A Spanish Style Home by Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, California
Located in the beautiful, picturesque residential area of Sunset Cliffs, sits a luxurious, 1927 Spanish Eclectic style home: 1004 Devonshire Drive. This spectacular 5 bedroom plus library, 3½ bath home, located on a 17,400 square foot corner lot, is truly a historical property, having been given the esteemed Mills Act designation, and providing a generous property tax reduction.
Upon stepping foot onto this magnificent property, the eye is immediately drawn to the unique character and attention to detail, both inside and outside the home. From the red Mission tile low pitched roof that stands out against the white stucco exterior to the front gated patio complete with a beautiful fountain, this home has been carefully restored to maintain its original charm and character, while still offering many upgrades and amenities that create a luxurious feeling throughout the home.
Once inside the two-story, approximately 5,000 square foot home, an abundance of natural light shines through the many dramatic, arched doors and windows, highlighting the original wood and tiled floors and creating an open and airy living space. The living room has original ironwork around the arched entries and beautiful high barrel ceilings, a dramatic 1927 fireplace, and large mahogany wood framed windows that look out towards the ocean.
The recently designed, top of the line kitchen not only offers large windows with ocean views, but comes complete with beautiful, leatherized granite and African wood counters, Moroccan cabinets, and state of the art appliances, such as the La Cornue range, making it the perfect place to create your very own culinary masterpiece! The large Family Room across from the Living Room has beam ceilings and a fireplace and looks out to the foliage and front patio area.
Additionally, there is a Media room, with a magnificent Moroccan-style fireplace with full length sliding glass doors that open out to the perfect space for outdoor entertaining. A built-in barbecue, fountain and spa with a Peacock design mural behind it, make this outdoor space great for both entertaining others and relaxing to the peaceful sounds of nature. To each side are private garden areas, and plenty of lush, landscaped backyard for family and guests to enjoy!
Upstairs, there are four large bedrooms. The two bathrooms, and laundry room have gorgeous Moorish tiles and cabinetry, each with their own unique design. The master suite has a beehive fireplace, walk in closets and big picture windows that offer gorgeous ocean views. The extensive balcony, just off the bedroom, is the perfect place to sit back and unwind after a long day, watching the gorgeous San Diego sunsets and taking advantage of the amazing, Mediterranean-like climate year round.
Nearby is the 68 acre Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, which offers beautiful walking paths above the Pacific Ocean, where you can take in exquisite sunsets and watch the many surfers below catching waves. Sunset Cliffs is also close to the airport and downtown, however they feel as if they are worlds apart.
This property is filled with history, character and charm, all while being so close to the ocean, truly making it the perfect place to call home!

Frosted Dover Impulse Hydraulic Elevator at La Posada de Santa Fe Spa in Santa Fe, NM
A bit of an awkward situation at the end. The 1 button didn't work, and we were debating if we got on at 1 or 2. The door opens up at 2, and an employee with a luggage cart is about to board, and asks where we are going. You would think he would have got on, but he didn't and the door closed on him. We had nowhere to go, so I opened the door and told him 1 didn't work.
