Pimiö - Darkroom exhibition - Photography Museum Helsinki
PIMIÖ – DARKROOM
20 AUGUST, 2015 – 31 JANUARY, 2016
This autumn’s main exhibition at the Finnish Museum of Photography revives the original miracle of photography. The exhibition Pimiö – Darkroom enables visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating reality of the darkroom – experientially, through all their senses.
Works by more than 60 photographers, spanning from the 19th century to 2015, demonstrate the changing ideals of photographic printing and the versatility of the techniques. The exhibition highlights materials, craft, different techniques, and the irreplaceability of darkrooms for various uses even today. At the same time, it demonstrates how the miracle of the photograph is produced in darkrooms and how photographic artists have created their own printing styles.
In the exhibition, artists and enthusiasts lead viewers on a journey to working in the darkroom. The exhibition darkroom, films, stories, darkroom equipment and prints from the 19th century to 2015, invite viewers to look, touch, and listen.
Automation and digitalism are replacing materiality, but at the same time digitalism has lost its novelty appeal. This means that many young art photographers have returned to the darkroom, doing things by hand, and using a process in which the end result is not immediately visible, but requires making a number of choices.
In addition to prints by darkroom wizards such as Pentti Sammallahti, Ulla Jokisalo, Matti Saanio and Martti Jämsä, works will be shown by younger photographers, including tintype portraits of skateboarders by Jaakko Markkanen, tender cyanotypes by Ida Taavitsainen and bright chromogenic color prints by Tuukka Kaila. The exhibition includes photographs from the collections of the Finnish Museum of Photography by over 60 artists.
Darkroom is nostalgia, the present day and the future. The exhibition challenges viewers to think about the role of manual work in today's digital world.

Museum of Moving Images, Helsinki, Finland
A few scenes from the Museum of Moving Images in Helsinki, Finland, shot with a little quadcopter carrying a tiny Mobius camera. The colors are a bit strange because of the mixed light; fluorescent tubes + halogen spotlights. I've also learned to fly with the trims only, the sticks give too sudden movements to the quad.

Museoalue nimettiin Veteraanipuistoksi vuonna 2003.
Bunkkerimuseo sijaitsee Joensuun keskustasta noin 7 kilometriä Kuopion tietä (valtatie 17 ja 23) Marjalan eritasoliittymään, josta opastus bunkkerimuseolle.

Marja Helander, Sami-Finnish, at Topophobia in the Kiasma museum, Helsinki.
Such magnificent work at at the Kiasma in Helsinki. Two sisters, twins, from the Sami people in the North of Finland, perform in three venues through Finland, in an art installation with wonderful electronic music. Marja Helander (b. 1965) is a Sámi photographer, video artist and film-maker with roots both in Helsinki and Utsjoki. In her work, she has studied various themes including her own identity between the Finnish and the Sámi culture. Music by Wimme&Rinne/RinneRadio. NB I made this clip with a handheld iPad, so a lot of the quality of the original will be lost. Thanks to the power of the original a lot still remains.

Helsinki, City Tour - Finland 4K Travel Channel
Helsinki is the capital of independent Finland, since 1917. Before it was under the Swedish and Russian rule. The capital region has a population of approximately 1.4 million inhabitants, which is about one-quarter of the population of Finland. The second day of our stay, we choose a Hop-on Hop-off bus for a Helsinki City Tour. We get on the bus at Aleksanterinkatu and drive to the Senate Square. After we have passed the South Harbor, from where the ferries leave for Stockholm, we continue to the West Harbor.
From here, the big cruise ships and the ferries sail to Estonia. Before this, we pass the marina in Merisatama and Cafe Ursula. In Eira, there is a small bathing beach, one of the few in the urban area.
Past the Saluhall, where a secondhand market takes place, we reach the temple mountain with the Temppeliaukio church. It is one also known as rock church. The church was carved 5 to 8 meters into the rock. With the copper domed roof, it reaches a height of 13 m. From the outside, it is hardly recognizable. You only see the rock hill. The architects Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen built the church in 1969.
We continue to the Sibelius Monument. Johan Julius Christian Sibelius was one of the most important Finnish composers. He lived in Helsinki from 1865 to 1957. His popularity reaches far to Berlin, Vienna and New York. The monument, created by Eila Hiltunen in 1967, symbolizes an organ.
We take a walk to the next place of interest, the Olympic stadium. Built between 1934 and 1938, it should serve for the Olympics in 1940, which was canceled due to World War II. The tower is 72.71 m high. This corresponds exactly to the distance of the Olympic gold-winning throw of the Finnish javelin thrower Matti Järvinen, in 1932. From 2016, the stadium will be completely renovated and reopened in 2019.
Once again we choose the bus and drive to the Finnish National Museum. The Parliament building is just a few meters away. But at the time of our visit, it is behind a printed protective covering. On the opposite site is the Musiikkitalo (House of Music), a concert hall that is open, so we can take a look. We leave the building on the other side and reach a large square.

please read more:
