Diary Entry, 19th June 2018,
Up at 0745, Amber's getting ready for work and the kitties are nudging me to get up and feed them.
Up.. made a coffee and a tea to sit and chill with my girl for the last 30minutes before she has to go to work.
It doesn't feel right saying goodbye at the door knowing that I won't see her again for almost a week.
Waved her off at the window and then sorted out all the last little bits for the trip to America. Mainly putting music onto my phone!
My Mum picked me up and drove me to Heathrow Airport Terminal 2 for 12:30.. on the dot.
Said goodbye and I headed in. I'm on my own now!
- Solo Traveler -
Okay.. so I had a bit of a seat mix up.
When I booked my flight, I chose a window seat. Now at check in I am in the middle of 2 people.. not cool.
Anyway, I got it sorted so I'm next to a window again. Result.
Check my bags in and went through security, which was a strange experience to do on your own.
I don't have an issue doing things by myself but it does feel weird being alone. No-one to talk to, just people watching.
I grabbed a cheese and tuna melt and a coffee, then found a spot to chill and wait for my gate to be announced.
Waited till 14:25 to find out I was to head to gate 18.
5 minutes after sitting at the departure lounge we were boarding!
I had a nice spot to be fair. Just behind the wing and with a bonus of having 2 windows! Yew!
I had a young couple sitting with me who were from L.A.
They had been visiting London and absolutely loved it.
So it was quite nice to have people I could chat with occasionally and have a giggle with.
Take off was at 16:00
Food was decent and I watched a few films!
- 12 Strong
- Notorious, Conor McGregor
- Game Night
Virgin Atlantic's entertainment selection was pretty decent.
They could have had more films to choose from but it was a pretty good selection.
Whilst I had 10 hours of spare time, I took the opportunity to look through the whole vidcon 2018 schedule and youtuber line ups!
So I got a tiny bit of sleep towards the end of the flight. More of a nap than sleep. It's hard to actually sleep on a plane.
Oh the guy sitting in front of me put his chair back almost immediately which was long. I don't like putting my seat back because I don't like it when people put their seat back.. but then I can't see the freaking screen because its an anti glare screen so you can only really see it when you sit square on with it.
The flight was over land for the majority of it.
I checked on the sky planner app on the screen.
England, Ireland, Greenland, Canada and the the U.S.A
I didn't realise how dry California actually was.. and so close to Nevada. I had no idea.
We landed at 18:30 (L.A Time)
Got Through Security fine. Bit slow but it was all good.
It took me a minute to figure out where to find the super shuttle mini bus services check in point at LAX Terminal 2.
I got there in the end!
So the journey with in the blue super-shuttle from LAX to Anaheim was a little over an hour. Dropping other passengers off at their hotels on the way.
It's always nice seeing where other people are staying. That is until you pull up in a rough neighborhood with a half flashing neon light outside the place and you hope that this one isn't for you!
I thought I was in GTA San Andreas at some spots.
Anyway I get dropped off at my hotel for the week;
Days Inn & Suites,
12792 Palm St,
Garden Grove,
CA 92840,
USA
Checked in, leaving $100 deposit and went to my room on the 3rd floor. dropped my bags and crashed out.
22:00 L.A time
06:00 My time
We're here.
Tomorrow, VidCon

Jerusha Abbott was brought up at the John Grier Home, an old-fashioned orphanage. The children were wholly dependent on charity and had to wear other people's cast-off clothes. Jerusha's unusual first name was selected by the matron off a grave stone, while her surname was selected out of the phone book. At the age of 18, she has finished her education and is at loose ends, still working in the dormitories at the institution where she was brought up.
One day, after the asylum's trustees have made their monthly visit, Jerusha is informed by the asylum's dour matron that one of the trustees has offered to pay her way through college. He has spoken to her former teachers and thinks she has potential to become an excellent writer. He will pay her tuition and also give her a generous monthly allowance. Jerusha must write him a monthly letter, because he believes that letter-writing is important to the development of a writer. However, she will never know his identity; she must address the letters to Mr. John Smith, and he will never reply.
Jerusha catches a glimpse of the shadow of her benefactor from the back, and knows he is a tall long-legged man. Because of this, she jokingly calls him Daddy Long-Legs. She attends a women's college, but the name and location are never identified; however, men from Princeton University are frequently mentioned as dates, so it is certainly on the East Coast. The college is almost certainly based on the author's alma mater, Vassar College, judging from college traditions mentioned. She illustrates her letters with childlike line drawings, also created by Jean Webster. (Summary by Wikipedia)

Auburn Coach Wife Kristi Malzahn Agrees with Match & eHarmony: Men are Jerks
My advice is this: Settle! That's right. Don't worry about passion or intense connection. Don't nix a guy based on his annoying habit of yelling Bravo! in movie theaters. Overlook his halitosis or abysmal sense of aesthetics. Because if you want to have the infrastructure in place to have a family, settling is the way to go. Based on my observations, in fact, settling will probably make you happier in the long run, since many of those who marry with great expectations become more disillusioned with each passing year. (It's hard to maintain that level of zing when the conversation morphs into discussions about who's changing the diapers or balancing the checkbook.)
Obviously, I wasn't always an advocate of settling. In fact, it took not settling to make me realize that settling is the better option, and even though settling is a rampant phenomenon, talking about it in a positive light makes people profoundly uncomfortable. Whenever I make the case for settling, people look at me with creased brows of disapproval or frowns of disappointment, the way a child might look at an older sibling who just informed her that Jerry's Kids aren't going to walk, even if you send them money. It's not only politically incorrect to get behind settling, it's downright un-American. Our culture tells us to keep our eyes on the prize (while our mothers, who know better, tell us not to be so picky), and the theme of holding out for true love (whatever that is—look at the divorce rate) permeates our collective mentality.
Even situation comedies, starting in the 1970s with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and going all the way to Friends, feature endearing single women in the dating trenches, and there's supposed to be something romantic and even heroic about their search for true love. Of course, the crucial difference is that, whereas the earlier series begins after Mary has been jilted by her fiancé, the more modern-day Friends opens as Rachel Green leaves her nice-guy orthodontist fiancé at the altar simply because she isn't feeling it. But either way, in episode after episode, as both women continue to be unlucky in love, settling starts to look pretty darn appealing. Mary is supposed to be contentedly independent and fulfilled by her newsroom family, but in fact her life seems lonely. Are we to assume that at the end of the series, Mary, by then in her late 30s, found her soul mate after the lights in the newsroom went out and her work family was disbanded? If her experience was anything like mine or that of my single friends, it's unlikely.
And while Rachel and her supposed soul mate, Ross, finally get together (for the umpteenth time) in the finale of Friends, do we feel confident that she'll be happier with Ross than she would have been had she settled down with Barry, the orthodontist, 10 years earlier? She and Ross have passion but have never had long-term stability, and the fireworks she experiences with him but not with Barry might actually turn out to be a liability, given how many times their relationship has already gone up in flames. It's equally questionable whether Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, who cheated on her kindhearted and generous boyfriend, Aidan, only to end up with the more exciting but self-absorbed Mr. Big, will be better off in the framework of marriage and family. (Some time after the breakup, when Carrie ran into Aidan on the street, he was carrying his infant in a Baby Björn. Can anyone imagine Mr. Big walking around with a Björn?)
