The Great Tapestry Returns to Holyrood
On the 15th anniversary of the official opening of the Parliament in 1999, one of Scotland's most ambitious community arts projects, the Great Tapestry of Scotland, has returned to the Scottish Parliament.
To commemorate this historic anniversary, the Presiding Officer launched a call for people from across Scotland to help stitch a new 'People's Panel'. 'The People's Panel' is a colourful commemoration of the Scottish Parliament building and its link to the Tapestry, created by artist Andrew Crummy.
Once the 'People's Panel' is complete, it will hang in the Scottish Parliament as part of the permanent art collection.
The Tapestry opens to the public today and will remain on display until Saturday 13th September.

UK: EDINBURGH: REFERENDUM FOR A SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT PREVIEW
English/Nat
Scotland's people are deciding on Thursday whether they want a government of their own, and whether to give it the power to tax.
If the result from Thursday's voting matches recent opinion polls, the verdict will be a resounding yes for self-government and somewhat less enthusiasm for taxes.
Scots voted on Thursday on creating their own Parliament - the biggest wrench from England in 290 years of union.
Supporters promised greater autonomy, while opponents warned of disaster.
Prime Minister Tony Blair's Labour government, allied with independence-seeking Scottish nationalists in support of the separate Parliament, appeared certain of getting a yes vote from most of Scotland's nearly 4 (m) million voters.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. (0600 GMT), with voting across Scotland from populous Glasgow to the scattered Orkney Islands.
Early voters on the streets of Edinburgh were all in favour of a Scottish Parliament.

Thursday's referendum culminated years of growing demands for a Scottish Parliament.
Britain's Conservative Party, deeply unpopular north of border, inadvertently helped stoke the demands while in office and has apparently failed to dampen them since losing power May 1st.
The British government hopes the Edinburgh Parliament will be the safety valve that relieves pressure for independence while keeping Scotland securely within the United Kingdom.
Wales is also being offered a separate assembly in a September 18 referendum.

SCOTLAND. KINNABER. ST CYRUS. JOHNSHAVEN & THE SCOTTISH REPLICA CROWN JEWELS IN KINNEFF AULD KIRK.
My 1st video showing these fine replicas of the Honours. The Scottish Crown Jewels is here:
So THIS video is like it says in the title.
This video covers Kinnaber viaduct, along with the A92 bridge. St Cyrus Nether Kirk Yard, down near enough on the beach itself.
Then onwards to Kinneff Auld Kirk where the replica Honours are kept on public view.
To those who do not know, these are full size replicas of the Scottish Crown Jewels. The real one are of course in Edinburgh Castle.
Great story of the crown jewels happened around this area. They were being held for safekeeping away from Oliver Cromwell and his hoard who had laid siege to nearby Dunnoter Castle to try and get them as he was into stealing wealth, under another name ha haaa.
Quite a few months the castle held out and there are a couple of stories as to how the jewels were smuggled out, and my favourite is that they were lowered down to a waiting rowing boat, and the minister of Kinneff Kirk, OR his wife, rowed them around to Kinneff, and buried them under the slabs in front of the alter ! There they laid for years until Scotland got her King back again :-)
That is what you can see in that woven tapestry in the video.
The replicas are also copied and are upstairs in this kirk, in dried flowers. The onse in the case downstairs are life size and look just like the real thing.
I didn't do a video of them as I have one here on youtube, which you can go and see if you so wish.
Enjoy this one and the other if you go there :-)

Powys Castle ~ A New Era
Most of the great Welsh castles were allowed to decay when the medieval wars ended, but Powys survives as a captivating example of a military stronghold which was preserved and renewed by continual occupation. Its fabric contains architecture of many different periods, beginning with a medieval square keep and stone hall. The most fleeting glimpse of Powys' mellow red gritstone walls tells us that this stately country house is a place rich in history.
At the start of the 19th Century the castle passed into the hands of Clive Family, Robert Clive.
