Gubeikou Great Wall, Beijing
Located to the southeast of Gubeikou Town in Miyun County of Beijing, Gubeikou Great Wall comprises two sections. The first section was built during the Northern Qi Dynasty and the second section was built during the early Ming Dynasty. Wohushan (Crouching Tiger Mountain) and Panlongshan (Coiling Dragon Mountain) are the main highlights of Gubeikou Great Wall. One can go there for a visit to see the original appearance of the Great Wall.

CHINA TRAVEL GUIDE:
BEST VPN FOR CHINA:
This was an unforgettable day! It was my first time seeing the Great Wall of China and I got to start with an unrestored section, which I've been dying to see! The ridiculously fun people we spent the day with made the whole experience even better. This section of wall is called Gubeikou, more specifically Panlongshan, and we took a private van to get there for a total of 1000 RMB (which we then split between 6 people). I highly recommend this hike if you're up for some exercise and incredible views!

Gubeikou Great Wall
Gubeikou is one of the most well-known strategic pass and most accessible sections of the Wall in Beijing. This is an awesome place where you’ll experience uncrowded adventurous hike and the power of nature.
CHINA: The Great Wall (Gubeikou/Jinshanling)
This is a short video about our adventure on the Great Wall of China. We hiked the unrestored section at Gubeikou and the restored section at Jinshanling. We highly recommend getting out to Gubeikou for a few days to explore the wall and staying at the Great Wall Box House. Read our blog post for more info!

(We apologize for the video quality, we were still new to recording, but we promise we are improving.)
The Great Wall from the air in 4K - Jinshanling and Gubeikou
A showcase of some footage I took while hiking parts of the Great Wall over the course of three days. My Lowepro Droneguard BP450 backpack was definitely useful during ~30km of steep climbs!
All shots were taken at 4K/24fps using a DJI Phantom 4 and Polar Pro ND4, 8 and 16 filters.
The footage was edited in GoPro Studio, which led to some minor moire and frame drops.

Jinshanling Great Wall!
In this Episode, we went to the best spot to see the Great Wall of China!
There are a few wall parts around Beijing open for tourism. But most of them are just overrun with people.
The Jinshanling Great Wall is an exception mostly because of the distance to Beijing. Which btw also makes it a Day-Trip.
This is how you get to Jinshanling Great Wall:
You can take the public transport Busses to the Wall between April and November.
The Bus Station is located at WANGJING WEST (Line 13) Metro Station. Leave the Metro Station at Exit C (Dont worry its a bigger station and Exit C is kinda hidden so you have to walk a bit).
After you left the station at Exit C, take a look over your right shoulder to see a RED sign Tourist Bus to Jinshanling Great Wall.
The Bus Station looks a bit sketchy, but don't worry.
After the Red Sign keep walking around 20-50 Meters alongside the Bus station to get to the waiting area with a white sign saying: 金山岭长城旅游班车 only in Chinese.
The waiting area has long white metal bars under a roof to wait in Line - That's the right spot. There a few Busses which departure from that same point - so don't panic just ask every time.
The Bus departure at 8 am in the morning.
( Officially - BUT the last time we went there they told us the bus would depart at 8:30 which it did. But I would not bet on it to happen every time. So make sure to be there at 8 am and don't worry if you have to wait a bit. since there is only one Bus going there you don't want to miss it. )
The Bus Ticket is around 50RMB and can only be bought inside the Bus and in Cash. The ride to Jinshanling takes around 100 Min. and depending on the Traffic the bus will make a short stop at a Gas station.
The Bus back to Beijing departures at 3 pm and 4 pm.
( ! ! Here it's Important to ask the driver when u leave the Bus to make sure u don't miss the last Bus. ! ! )
The Bus back to Beijing will departure at the same place where you get off the Bus. The Ticket back is around 50RMB and can only be bought inside the Bus in Cash.
It will take you back to City. They just stopped at a metro station (Line 13) and somewhere close to Sanlitun - I don't have an exact location.
When You arrive at the parking space in Jinshanling you walk by the Tourist Information Center. I recommend using the shuttle, its only 10RMB and will take you to the entry of the Jinshanling Great Wall Park. You get the Tickets inside.
You can also walk up there in around 15-20 minutes (Like we did in the Video) but you should rather spend that time on the actual Wall.
You also can take a shuttle back to the Parking lot.
It's again 10RMB!
When you arrive at the Entry of the Park you have to buy the Park Ticket.
The Ticket is around 60RMB and 30RMB for Students.
Again I highly recommend taking the cable car to the Wall - in this case, there is no time walking up to the Wall!!
Cable Car roundtrip Ticket is around 30RMB.
The Great Wall is an uneasy Terrain with a lot of rocks, holes and extreme stairs a lot of stairs. So be careful and were good shoes.
You can buy water, snacks, and Ice before you enter the park and also inside every Tower of the wall but it is fucking expansive.
So make sure to buy enough Water and food upfront before you even get on the Bus.
That's it. I hope you have a great time there its absolutely worth it!!

Great Wall of China - Hiking in Winter
Great Wall of China - Hiking in Winter
Hiked 3 sections of the Great Wall in winter. We did it without any guides after studying blogs and posts by fellow hikers. All these sections are different. From the unrestored Gubeikou Great Wall where we were the only people around, to the wonderful Jinshanling Great Wall where the climb is steep and every direction gives you good photo opportunities, to the restored Mutianyu Great Wall where we hiked in heavy snowfall.
Stayed at local farmhouses on both nights. Ate local meals and hitched rides to nearby bath houses because the homes have no bathrooms! Temperature ranged from -5 deg C (day) to -12 deg C (night). Winter daybreak is at 7am. Sky becomes dark by 5pm. You have only 10 hrs of daylight, so plan your travelling and hiking schedules carefully!!
This once-in-a-lifetime experience was captured on video and we would like to share it with you. The feelings just can't be described. You need to experience it first hand.

Beijing Travel Guide - Great Wall at Jinshanling
The Great Wall at Jinshanling is about 155 kilometers away from downtown Beijing and stretches from Miyun County of Beijing to Luanping County of Hebei Province. It is the best preserved part of the Great Wall in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) with many original features. Jinshanling connects to the Great Wall at Simatai in the east and Great Wall at Gubeikou in the west. The name of Jinshanling comes from two watchtowers, Great Jinshan Tower and Small Jinshan Tower on the Great Wall in this region. It was said that 3,000 soldiers from Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, under the command of famous Ming General Qijiguang (1528-1587), built two watchtowers and named them after the Great Jinshan Island and Small Jinshan Island in their hometown to show their sentimental feelings.
BEIJING - one week in the capital of China & the Great Wall in Gubeikou! Worldtrip vlog #1
Our first country on our year long trip is China and we started of in the capital (completely jetlagged)! Beijing is not what we expected and even in this big city there's barely anyone speaking English! We make the trip (of almost 4 hours) to Gubeikou to visit an unrestored part of the Wall and ofcourse we go to the Forbidden City and other cultural wonders.
The Great Wall of China in the Snow | Gubeikou Rugged Wall
Today I visited the Great Wall of China in the snow and it was magical and freezing and one of those memories I will treasure forever.
I was exploring the rugged section of the Great Wall known as Gubeikou. Unfortunately due to the crazy weather, we couldn't do our full trek, so we just explored a small section of the wall here. It was still pretty magical!
I hope you enjoy!
Becky
ps. I travelled with China Highlights on this trip and I cannot recommend them enough!

China Great Wall - Gubeikou
