Here's where New York City's sewage really goes
New York City is home to 8.4 million waste-producing people; that's a lot of toilets, drains, and sewers. It takes 14 wastewater treatment facilities scattered throughout the five boroughs to clean up all of our dirty water.
We visited the largest facility, the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, to see how the water is treated. It's a dirty job that surprisingly smells great.

New York
A week in New York with some cool people. I love this sleepless city and those who have found a home in its tangled roots. Those who lose themselves and find themselves in its alleyway arteries. Here's a short film exploring New York City.

EBOLA Nyc outbreak - Dr Craig Spencer Timeline from Guinea to NewYork
A doctor, who recently returned from Guinea has tested positive for Ebola, the first case of the deadly virus in New York City, and the fourth diagnosed in the United States.
Here is a timeline of Craig Spencers movements, since he got back from the West African nation.
Spencer came back to the United States last week after treating Ebola patients in Guinea, where he worked for Doctors Without Borders.
He completed his work in Guinea on October 12 and left the country two days later via Brussels, Belgium.
He arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport on October 17, but he exhibited no symptoms of the virus until Thursday morning, said Dr. Mary Travis Bassett, New York City's health commissioner.
The physician, who works at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, was checking his temperature twice a day. He has not seen any patients since his return.
The 33-year-old did not have any symptoms just after his return, but he developed a fever, nausea, pain and fatigue Thursday morning, authorities said. He began feeling sluggish a couple of days ago, but his fever spiked to 100.3 degrees Fahrenheit (about 38 Celsius) the day his symptoms appeared.
Spencer was in contact with a few people after he started exhibiting symptoms, authorities said. Ebola is not contagious until someone has symptoms.
Three people, his fiancee and two friends, are being placed on quarantine and monitored, health officials said.
Spencer also went for a 3 mile jog and visited a bowling alley in Brooklyn on Wednesday evening, before feeling symptomatic, according to Bassett.
The bowling alley closed Thursday as a precaution, but it said that health officials have determined there are no risks to customers.
The Gutter bowling alley said in a statement Friday, that it was working with the city health department to have the bar cleaned and sanitized, as a precautionary measure and expected to open later in the day.
Spencer also traveled on three subway lines. At the time that the doctor was on the subway, he did not have fever, he was not symptomatic, Bassett said. Chances of anyone contracting the virus from contact with him are close to nil, she said.
New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo told CNN, New Day that the transit system was safe. He said he would ride the subway himself Friday.
Spencer is at New York's Bellevue Hospital Center, where he has been in isolation since emergency personnel took him there.
It's one of eight hospitals statewide designated by Cuomo as part of an Ebola preparedness plan.
We are as ready as one could be, Cuomo said. His state will be different from Texas, he said, where a Liberian man was diagnosed with Ebola and two nurses who treated him later contracted the virus. The man, Thomas Eric Duncan, died October 8.
We had the advantage of learning from the Dallas experience, he said.
Duncan, who had flown from Liberia to Dallas, was the first person diagnosed with the disease in the United States. Two nurses who helped care for him are undergoing treatment, raising concerns about the nation's ability to deal with an outbreak.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said his city followed every protocol in its handling of Spencer's case.
For starters, Spencer was admitted to a hospital as soon as he developed symptoms, unlike Duncan, who was sent home with antibiotics the first time he went to Texas Presbyterian Hospital. Duncan returned days later and was hospitalized.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has dispatched a team to New York to help with the case.
We want to state at the outset there is no reason for New Yorkers to be alarmed, the mayor said.

New York shuts down as what could be the biggest storm ever to hit the United States threatens to swamp the east coast.
Rain and wind from Hurricane Sandy have started lashing the northeast of the US, as forecasters warn New York could bear the brunt of the one-of-a-kind superstorm.
Sandy is on a collision course with two other weather systems leading to fears it could develop into one of the worst storms on record in the US.
The superstorm is threatening up to 50 million people on the heavily populated East Coast, and forecasters say it could wreak havoc over 800 miles (1,280km) from the Atlantic coast to the Great Lakes.
:: Live Updates on Hurricane Sandy
Sandy, a Category 1 hurricane, is currently about 380 miles (615km) southeast of New York City, with winds of about 85mph (140kph).

Evacuation zones around New York City Key evacuation areas affecting New York City and adjoining areas
The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said Sandy had strengthened as it turned toward the coast and was moving at 15 mph (24 kph). It stayed on a predicted path toward New York, Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia.
The centre of the storm was positioned to come ashore Monday night in New Jersey, meaning the worst of a storm surge could be in the northern part of that state and in New York City and on Long Island.
The massive storm, which is hundreds of miles across, is set to stay until at least mid-week, bringing hurricane winds, flooding rains and snow in the Appalachian mountains.
Hundreds of thousands of people have already evacuated coastal areas, but much focus remains on New York.
New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has ordered the evacuation of 375,000 people in low-lying areas of lower Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
This is a serious and dangerous storm.
Authorities are warning New York could get hit with an 11ft (3.3-metre) wall of water that could swamp parts of lower Manhattan, flood subway tunnels and cripple the network of electrical and communications lines that are vital to the nation's financial centre.
New York and other cities shut down schools and suspended all train, bus and subway services on Sunday night because of the risk of flooding.
Nearly the entire coastline of Staten Island has been evacuated. Parts of lower Manhattan, like Battery Park and Ground Zero, have also been evacuated amid the threat of flooding.
All US stock markets will be closed on Monday and possibly Tuesday, the operator of the New York Stock Exchange said, reversing an earlier plan that would have kept electronic trading going on Monday.
US President Barack Obama has cancelled a planned campaign appearance in Florida and returned to Washington to oversee the federal government's response to the ever-threatening hurricane.

Video: In SDNY Trial Of Emo Rapper Jones Abusive Three On One Interview Shown Silencing In Gallery
Note: Inner City Press has repeatedly asked for this video from the US Attorney for the SDNY, but nope. Here is it is full from another source:
By Matthew Russell Lee, Exclusive, Patreon
The Source - XXL - The Root - Vibe, etc
SDNY COURTHOUSE, Oct 17 – When SoundCloud emo rapper Michael Jones was brought in shackled to observe his motion for reconsideration denied by Judge John G. Koeltl of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on September 26, he had face tattoos as does Tekashi 6ix9ine.
But there was no media except Inner City Press in the gallery. And the government was not offering any 5K1 cooperator's letter much less time served. Jones faces 20 years to life.
On October 17 the government played for the jury video of an abusive interview of the defendant, Michael Jones, complete with bright orange hair. One of the interviewer told him to hurry up, I'm hungy, I wanna get out of here. The other told Michael Jones to lay on the ground and imitate the decedent.
In the gallery, when one of Michael Jones' at least dozen supporters groanded, the decedent's father turned and told him, Please be quiet. It's only polite. But you can't silence the truth. Watch this site.
On October 15 the US Attorney put on NYPD officer Chris Tilak Budhan about his wellness check at Haikova's studio apartment, and the medical examiner, her voice shaking, describing her role in something called the 360 Degree Outreach to families. Defense lawyer Justin Bonus objected but Judge Koeltl overruled. Then he shut down Bonus' voir dire about exhibits. In the gallery were family and friends of Jones, and the decedent's father, reading the Financial Times. We'll have more on this.
On October 11 the US Attorney put on the stand Felicia Medina and John Dipaola, the resident manager at The Carolina at 60 West 23rd Street. There, in apartment (or Suite) 545 Diana Haikova was found dead in bed on December 7, 2017. Several times Michael Jones' lawyer Justin Bonus rose up to object, invariably denied by Judge Koeltl. In fact, Judge Koeltl didn't even give Bonus an opportunity for re-cross before moving on. We said we'd have more on this, and now we do.
On Saturday October 12 the US Attorney's Office filed a letter seeking to quash Michael Jones' subpoenas including on the very topics of the October 11 testimony, writing Diana Haikova died inside her apartment located at 60 West 23rd Street, New York, NY, at a building known as The Caroline. The Government has learned that counsel for the defendant has served at least one subpoena on management at The Caroline and attempted to serve at least one other on an employee. The first subpoena (“Caroline Subpoena-1”), dated September 17, 2019, titled “Subpoena to Produce Documents, Information, or Objects in a Criminal Case,” is directed to “John DiPaola, The Caroline, 60 West 23rd Street, NY, NY 10010,” and requests “Building at 60 West 23rd: 1. Any and all video surveillance from 12/5/2017 at 11:30AM until 12/7/2017 at 1:40PM; 2. The building maintenance log and key request re apt 545 (see #1) 3. Visitor log for apartment 545, 12/5/2017 until 12/7/2017”. Caroline Subpoena-1 further indicates that the documents be delivered to “c/o Investigator Kevin Hinkson” and no return date or time is specified. There is no name, address, e-mail, or telephone number, or any information about the party or attorney representing the party issuing the subpoena listed. Attached to Caroline Subpoena-1 were copies of the same records (other than the surveillance video) that the subpoena requested, all of which the Government had provided to counsel for the defendant in discovery. ..
