Jesus Mound
A short video I shot to send to some friends to show them where I grew up.
Jesmond, or Jesus Mound, is a pretty special place but even more so is the compact, wooded Ouse valley tucked away within it: both mystical and enchanting during the day and unnervingly eerie at night.
It's the setting for the spooky illustrated children story I wrote called Cloudy Head (part of a collection of shorts) and several major scenes in the Sci-Fi Cyberpunk thriller, Iron Man Project.
In Cloudy Head, a young boy finds his reality begins to merge with dream-like apparitions that stalk out of the woods behind his parents house, after recently moving there.
In Iron Man Project, one character finds herself hiding out in a fictional renovated version of Lord Armstrong's banqueting hall whilst another character is sent there to kill her.
Up until the Norman Conquest of England in the late 11th Century, this area has been known as Gese Muth or the mouth of the Ouse (river). Apparently there was an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, holding the infant Christ, on St Mary's Rock -- which is a large table-like boulder that sits in the river right next to the ruins of Ridley Mill -- and is right next to where I'm standing when I start filming the video below.
About a mile away there are the ruins of a Chapel on the west side of the valley, and a little further beyond that is the site of a Spring, known as St Mary's Well with the word Gratia inscribed upon stone above it.

90 Second Vacation - #009 - A Trip Through the Scottish Highlands, Scotland, UK
In this episode, we travel through the Scottish Highlands on our way to the Isle of Skye. The Isle of Skye is an island on the west coast of Scotland and is part of the Highland region. It is known for some incredible mountainous terrain and beautiful coastline. Along the way we stopped by the Eilean Donan Castle which was destroyed in 1719 but rebuild in the early 20th century offers a beautiful sight to behold. We also met Sandy, a bag-piper playing his pipes at a beautiful overlook spot along one of the roads we took on our trip through the Scottish Highlands.

Unknow Piper Plays Amazing Grace at Commando Memorial Scotland
On Aug 17, 2009 I visited the Commando Memorial beside the A82 trunk road, 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of Spean Bridge. It is quite an imposing statue and Im glad we stopped. While we were there a car arrived flying a small Canadian flag and a young man got a set of bagpipes out of the car and then marched to the memorial playing (I think) Scotland the Brave. At the monument itself he played Amazing Grace, paused for a moment as if in prayer after he was through then returned to his car and left. It was a moving tribute made all the more special by its spontaneity
