Jack Rabbit Trading Post | Route 66
Songs and TV shows feature Route 66. Road trips and vacations are dedicated to exploring Route 66. U.S. and international travelers seek out the nostalgia and Americana found on Route 66. Affectionately called the “Mother Road,” it is an iconic chapter of America’s history.
But Route 66 is not just the road, the sunsets and the neon signs – it’s the people that keep it alive. Arizona’s Jack Rabbit Trading Post is a mom and pop business, part of Route 66’s story, and a piece of Americana that has stood the test of time.
The Jack Rabbit’s owners are finding new ways to stay connected to the Route 66 community and preserve the Mother Road. Hop on over and check out their story on the blog “Route 66 Explorer.”
Mom and the baby rattlers, Jackrabbit Trading Post, Route 66
October 8, 2013, AZ Route 66 - With the help of Jackrabbit Trading Post co-owner Antonio Jaquez, I convinced my mom to check out the baby rattlers, a classic roadside gimmick. I think she really knew all along.
I bought one of the cool yellow and black shirts as I've loved the somewhat sinister-looking jackrabbit since my first Route 66 trip about 40 years ago.

TWIN ARROWS CAFE & TRADING POST
Route 66
On the second of four road trips from southern California in my 1959 Cadillac on Route 66, my buddy Eric Wittman and I experienced the sights, smells and sounds of having breakfast in an original Valentine diner located at the iconic 'Twin Arrows Trading Post & Cafe' 23 miles east of Flagstaff, Arizona on Route 66. The gal working behind the counter of the compact eatery really earned her wage as she not only took the order but poured the coffee, cooked and served the food, washed the dishes and took the money for the bill.
The struggling business was forced to shutter it's doors in 1995, just two years after our visit and since then has unfortunately been left to deteriorate and be vandalized.

Chief Yellowhorse Route 66 Indian Trading Post - Full Tour (New Mexico and Arizona State Line)
Check out this place! A lot of the goods (Apart from in the TeePee) are all hand crafted and handmade by the native american tribes. A lot of the produce is also collected from the local area and made into gifts. The prices vary, you can easily pickup cheap $1 gifts, such as: arrow heads, mini statues sitting a on a little stone and some cheap snacks. I was also impressed by seeing cow head skulls for only $25. You can also see the stateline run through Chief Yellowhorse's hut on the right end of the row. We spoke to his son and he was very friendly and nice. There is also a trail out back from the hut you can walk along.

POP HICKS' RESTAURANT - Howard & Mary Nichols - Clinton, OK - Route 66 - August 25, 1993
NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED
On the second of four road trips from southern California on Route 66 in my 1959 Cadillac, me and my buddy Eric Wittman mad it a point to stop at one of the oldest running businesses on Route 66, Pop Hicks' Restaurant in Clinton, Oklahoma.
Originally opened in 1936 by Ethan Edward 'Pop' Hicks who eventually sold the business in 1968. In 1993 we met the then current owners, Howard & Mary Nichols who owned the restaurant from 1989 until 1999 when an electrical fire completely destroyed the building.
Mary Passed away in 1998 and Howard passed away in 2005.
