Places to see in ( Las Vegas - USA ) The Neon Museum
Places to see in ( Las Vegas - USA ) The Neon Museum
The Neon Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, features signs from old casinos and other businesses displayed outdoors on over 6 acres. The museum features a restored lobby shell from the defunct La Concha Motel as its visitor center, which officially opened on October 27, 2012.
For many years, the Young Electric Sign Company (YESCO) stored many of these old signs in their boneyard. The signs were slowly being destroyed by exposure to the elements. The signs are considered by Las Vegas locals, business owners and government organizations to be not only artistically, but also historically, significant to the culture of the city. Each of the restored signs in the collection holds a story about who created it and why it is important.
The Neon Museum was founded in 1996 as a partnership between the Allied Arts Council of Southern Nevada and the City of Las Vegas. Today, it is an independent non-profit. Located on Las Vegas Boulevard and Bonanza, the Neon Museum includes the new Neon Boneyard Park, which is adjacent to the former YESCO Boneyard.
The Neon Museum is located on Las Vegas Boulevard and Bonanza Road, across the street from Cashman Center and along the Las Vegas downtown museum corridor. The museum has exhibits in three main areas: restored and installed neon signs in both the Fremont Street area and along the Las Vegas Strip; and in the Neon Boneyard. The Neon Museum maintains several restored signs throughout Downtown Las Vegas and along the Las Vegas Strip. The cost of restoring signs is estimated to range from $10,000 for small pieces to $100,000 for the largest signs.
The boneyard preserves over 150 neon signs from the Nevada area. While the core of the collection is from the old Yesco Boneyard, private donations and loans have expanded the collection to the current size. Two cats, named Elvis and Liberace (after signs for the Frontier, where Elvis played his first show in Las Vegas; and the Liberace Museum, respectively) live in the Boneyard.[5] Tours are led by volunteer docents and last approximately one hour, with groups limited to 20 and starting every half hour.

Neon Museum, Las Vegas, Nevada
The Neon Boneyard is located on Las Vegas Boulevard, aka The Strip, just north of downtown. Since my visit last year ( ), they have added two fully restored, properly lit, neon signs: One donated by Jerry's, and the other, an absolutely gorgeous pink number from the Liberace Museum.

Liberace Museum : Liberace Home In Ruins, ~Devistated by Economy in Las Vegas~
Liberace Museum in Las Vegas, not all that long ago, was a popular destination for tourist.
Just west of the Liberace Museum, less than 2 miles maybe, sits his once elegant and opulent mansion that unfortunately is now siting empty and virtually in ruins. The property is located just east of the Las Vegas strip.
His former residence was sold during the height of the real estate property boom. The owner eventually turned the property into a banquet facility and at one time was doing well.
Personally I feel the home could have, and may have, retained it's long term historical value had they of NOT demolished the fortress behind the residence where Liberace's pool and private back yard was and built the banquet facility.
It seems rather basic to me that in order for value to be retained you NEVER detract, remove or deface, from the properties original condition. That said it was done but it's not the reason that the property now sits abandoned and in foreclosure.
I do give the owners of the property, my understanding is there have been 2 owners since Libarace's death in 1987, credit for doing the best they could. For several years many people were able to tour and enjoy the property that contained many if not most of he original items and decor that were present when Liberace was alive.
Liberace was likely the VERY FIRST mega television star ever on television. It's been documented that he was the first ever musical performer and talent, according to a BBS documentary, to be booked on live television. Liberace also experienced, and maybe even played a role in, the creation of the paparazzi.
The Liberace museum in Las Vegas has now closed it's doors due to poor attendance which may be a cause of the downturn in the economy.
What once was Liberace's magnificent mansion in Las Vegas is no longer the spectacular that it once was. This video taken on August 5th and 6th of 2012 documents the condition of the home at this time just 25 years after Liberace's death.
Unfortunately Las Vegas seems not to embrace, or care for, the past as it only thirst for future profits.

Currently there's a movie production underway which is to star Michael Douglas as Liberace and co-stars Matt Damon.
The movie is based on the relationship of Liberace and his live lover Scott Thorson who filed a lawsuit against Liberace in 1982 for $113 million. The lawsuit was settled out of court for reportedly for $95,000.
******UPDATE 06/25/2013******
HOME IS OFFICIALLY FOR SALE-
Fox5 Local Las Vegas News says the asking price is $529,000 and may likely go for more.
Holly Madison, Hugh Hefners former, is said to have an interest in the property and looked at it as well as a few other celebrities.
Price per square foot is $35.00 and well below market value so they expect good interest in the property.

Clark County Museum Lobby Exhibits
Here are some exhibits now appearing at the Clark County Museum. For instance, see the chair that powerful Nevada Sen. Patrick McCarran used while serving in the Senate. There's also an exhibit about what Clark County would be like if it still remained as a part of the state of Arizona. The exhibit coincides with the 150 anniversary of the state of Nevada. Also: one can view pieces of the wreckage from the plane that actress Carole Lombard was in when it crashed into Mt. Potosi to the west of Las Vegas. For more information about the museum, visit ClarkCountyNV.gov.

Visiting Clark County Museum - Nevada
We visited Clark County Museum located on Boulder Highway in Henderson, NV. The museum has an indoor exhibit showcasing ancient times and an outdoor area with historic homes and old trains that they let you go inside. They even had a Print Shop, not the software I have on my computer...lol, but an authentic vintage news press room. The museum was a fun place to visit. Watch the above video.

Pinball Hall of Fame (Museum Walkthrough in Las Vegas, Nevada 2011)
The Pinball Hall of Fame is a working museum with pinball machines, video games, skill games and other arcade machines. It is located in Las Vegas east of the MGM grand and across the street from the Liberace Museum on Tropicana near the airport. It's free admission but it's a working arcade meaning you put money into the machines to play. It's something different to do in Vegas other than loose your money gambling. This video was shot May, 2011.
