Woking Food and Drink Festival 2014
It was 'sunny side' up for in excess of 60,000 visitors at the second Woking Food and Drink Festival from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 September 2014.
The free, mouth-watering three-day event, featured:
- an assortment of over 60 high quality food and drink stalls
- live culinary demonstrations from Jack Stein, Frances Quinn, Sabrina Ghayour, Mark Lloyd and local chefs in the Tante Marie Culinary Academy Theatre
- BBQ demonstrations
- a Fairtrade Food and Family Quarter at The Lightbox and WWF-UK's Living Planet Centre
hands-on cookery workshops for children
- a Bake Off competition judged by Great British Bake Off 2013 winner, Frances Quinn

In April 2017 news of a tragic incident in Syria was quickly hidden by UK media, when it became apparent that the perpetrators were linked to NATO, rather than the Assad regime (#Rashideen). Meanwhile, the regeneration of Wokingham town centre hit a new low, with the announced closure of Marks and Spencer. Only one of these was a genuine outrage. Music:

Greedy cult runs dirty UK school for aid workers? CICD exposed
In 2008 the BBC programme, 'Look North,' aired an investigation uncovering serious concerns about the running of a private college still active in East Yorkshire, England.
Originally aired on August 22, 2008.
“Our investigation into the College for International Cooperation and Development began earlier this year [2008], when we were contacted by a number of former students. It’s the third time in ten years we’ve been told about student walkouts at the college. And all of these incidents have shared a common theme: deep unhappiness at the way CICD is run, and the emphasis the college places on physical labour. The allegations have always been denied.
“During the latest investigation I’ve spoken at length to a number of former students.
“Busking to pay for food and lodgings was not why David and Maya came to East Yorkshire. They originally signed up to a unique college course, which promised to train them as overseas development workers. But along with ten other students they walked out, claiming they were being exploited.
“ ‘There’s nothing. There’s no information ― nothing. You’re constantly kept busy, and then you’re sent out on the streets ― in Hull or northern towns ― to fundraise. By that I mean selling magazines. And literally begging in the streets.’ ”

Paul is the COO of Invotra, the engagement platform that is driving communications and conversations in government and enterprise. Invotra has more than 100,000 users in Home Office and HMRC alone.
Paul has spent the majority of his career at the forefront of innovative customer and user-centric propositions. In 1999, he joined the UK arm of Amazon.com where he was employee number three on the dedicated music team. After launching Amazon UK’s music business, Paul went on to lead Amazon’s UK music business for four years. Paul then led other well-known British ecommerce brands, including Play.com, where he was business development director for five years, and Firebox.com, where he was CEO for two years.
An American who moved to London in 1995, Paul now resides in the Woking area with his wife and two girls. He loves photography, music and art, as well as gardening and golf. He is a self-confessed amateur futurist. Paul graduated from Dartmouth College in 1991, where he studied European and Middle Eastern history.

Ray Morgan, Chief Executive, at Woking Borough Council has had a career in the public sector for over 30 years. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and he was awarded an OBE in 2007 for his services to Local Government.
Ray Morgan joined Woking Borough Council as Director of Finance in 1989 and since that time has championed many key initiatives and been instrumental in the development of many of the authority’s key strategies namely: Asset Management; Equalities and Diversity; Implementation of Electronic Government; Partnership Development; and Waste Management. However, it can be said the most notable initiative that Ray Morgan has led is the Council’s Climate Change Strategy.
For this work Woking Borough Council gained in 2001 the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Sustainable Development in respect of its Energy Services activities in the development of Sustainable Local Community Energy Systems.

Kevin completed his Masters of Engineering at Loughborough University and went on to hold a variety of innovation and creative-based roles at IBM. With the growth of online gaming and the internet, he became IBM’s global expert on creating and running events in ‘virtual worlds’ (online game-like environments), led IBM’s large virtual worlds community and even ran his own virtual chat-show!
He then moved into the video production arena, working extensively with senior IBM executives and is widely valued for his ability to take dry technical and business messages and transform them into concepts and stories that engage audiences and win deals for his clients!
He and his wife Sarah, have recently started homeschooling their two girls (aged 7 and 8) and so have a very active interest in educational methods. His current interests include, learning piano, memorising information and British history.

Richard Dunne is Headteacher of Ashley CofE Primary School in Walton on Thames. The school is an Ofsted graded Outstanding School and it has developed a curriculum of learning that applies learning to real life and gives the children a lead role in that learning.
Richard believes passionately that the best way for children to be motivated in their learning is when it makes sense to them and when they have a key role to play. Through combining core skills to purposeful enquiries of learning, the children start to develop their own vision of how they want to see their world and just as importantly what they can do to make it happen.
The school has won a range of awards for this work, including two international awards for energy conservation initiatives led by the children, one national award for food growing and provision, and a best educational visits award for their New Leaders in Sustainability expeditions to Chamonix in the Alps.

Jonathon Porritt, Founder Director of Forum for the Future, is an eminent writer, broadcaster and commentator on sustainable development. Established in 1996, Forum for the Future is now the UK’s leading sustainable development charity. The Forum has a growing presence in the United States, and is doing more and more work in India, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
In addition, he is co-founder of The Prince of Wales’s Business and Sustainability Programme, a Non-Executive Director of Willmott Dixon Holdings, a Trustee of Ashden, and a Director of Collectively (an online platform celebrating sustainable innovation).
He was formerly Director of Friends of the Earth, co-chair of the Green Party and as Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission until 2009, he spent nine years providing high-level advice to Government Ministers.
Jonathon was installed as the Chancellor of Keele University in February 2012 and he is also Visiting Professor at Loughborough University.
He is the author of ‘Capitalism As If The World Matters’, ‘Globalism & Regionalism’ and ‘Living Within Our Means’. His latest book, ‘The World We Made’, about how we get to be living in a sustainable world in 2050, was published in October 2013.
Jonathon received a CBE in January 2000 for services to environmental protection.

With a background in project management and performance reporting, including managing the creation of the reporting system for the Barclays Cycle Hire scheme, Phil long eyed the opportunity to create his own video company as film production had been a hobby held had since university. He founded DreamingFish in 2001 along with partner Sam Dowswell, but it took him 10 years to realize what an amazing business they had.
In 2011 they fully focused on the business, developing a new animation arm and doubling the size of the business year-on-year. Now DreamingFish delivers projects around the world and works with clients such as IBM, Serco, GSK and Defra.
Phil continues to have one eye on the future and is looking at moves into commercial and feature production. In his spare time Phil is a keen surfer and is currently learning to play the piano.
