KILL JOHNNY GLENDENNING
By DC Jackson
Directed by Lyceum Artistic Director Mark Thomson
A brutal comedy of fatal errors
“You died as you lived - an extra in a second rate James Cagney picture being recreated by halfwits and junkies.”
Andrew MacPherson has many legitimate business interests: a security firm, taxis, a couple of Renfrewshire bus routes, several pubs and even a secret shareholding in Rangers. Johnny 'the bastard' Glendenning is the self styled Tony Blair of Ulster loyalist gunmen. In a farmhouse far out in the wilds of Ayrshire they are on a deadly collision course. Caught between them are a farmer, his mother, two thugs, a sleazy tabloid hack and some pigs with a taste for human flesh.
Kill Johnny Glendenning is a murderous comedy of the Glasgow underworld, taking aim at the tabloid celebrity and macho glamour of the gangster life.
Kill Johnny Glendenning is a co-production between the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh and Citizens Theatre, Glasgow.
The Crucible at the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh | Vox Pops | 18 Feb - 19 Mar 2016
lyceum.org.uk/thecrucible | #TheCrucible
“I saw Sarah Good with the Devil!”
When young women are discovered trying to conjure spirits, the God-fearing people of Salem, Massachusetts are told the devil is in their midst and must be rooted out at all costs.
Accusations fly, scores are settled, and fear and suspicion reign. With terrifying power and momentum their faith becomes a murderous instrument of lust, paranoia and revenge.
Written during Joe McCarthy’s anticommunist trials in America, this classic tale of the witch hunts in colonial New England still stands as a powerful parable against the politics of fear.
Following huge acclaim for All My Sons, Death of a Salesman, The Price and A View from the Bridge, John Dove returns to direct The Crucible, completing The Lyceum’s acclaimed journey through the best loved works of Arthur Miller.

June 1944. One man's decision is about to change the course of history.
An intense real-life thriller centred around the most important weather forecast in the history of warfare.
Scottish meteorologist, Group Captain James Stagg, the son of a Dalkeith plumber, must advise General Eisenhower on when to give the order to send thousands of waiting troops across the Channel in Operation Overlord.
In what became the most volatile period in the British Isles for over 100 years, the future of Britain, Europe and our relationship with the United States, rested on the shoulders of one reluctant Scotsman.
Pressure is the extraordinary and little known story of a Scot who changed the course of war, and our lives, forever.

Cockpit
COCKPIT by Bridget Boland, directed by Wils Wilson
6 - 28 October 2017
The whole theatre becomes a stage in this revival of Bridget Boland's West End hit of the 1940s. Set in post-war Germany the local theatre becomes a make-shift refugee camp and home to people the displaced people of World War 2.
From British Officers trying to organise convoys, to a Polish couple afraid of travelling East with Russians, grumpy German stage managers, Italians who'd rather be back home in the sun. Arguments are had, laughs are shared and a Yugoslav partisan will not leave until he's confronted a Chetnik hiding backstage.
Cockpit is a timely revival that examines with pathos, humour and drama a key moment in the history of Europe and all who call it home.

★★★★★ Triumphant - The Guardian
★★★★★ a stirring testament to human fortitude and the power of theatre” - The Telegraph
What happens when you look death squarely in the face, and how do you find the strength to crawl back towards life?
Joe Simpson's memoir Touching the Void, an international bestseller and BAFTA-winning film sensation, charts his struggle for survival on the perilous Siula Grande mountain in the Peruvian Andes in 1985.
The Lyceum’s Artistic Director David Greig brings his award-winning writing skills to the first stage adaptation of this nail-biting adventure, rich in psychodrama and suspense. Artistic Director of Bristol Old Vic, Tom Morris (The Grinning Man, War Horse, Swallows & Amazons), lends his visionary directing style to the show.

What did the audience think of Jumpy?
JUMPY
27 October - 12 November
Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh
by April De Angelis
directed by Cora Bissett
“You’re having some kind of crisis.”
“It’s called being fifty. You must be having it too.”
A deliciously irreverent hit West End comedy of mid-life crisis, teenage rebellion and a mother-daughter relationship in meltdown. Hilary is 50, a strong intelligent woman who once protested at Greenham Common. Then she felt she could change the world, now, she can’t even change her daughters mind about wearing that skirt. Hilary’s job is on the line, her marriage is on life support, her best friend won’t grow up and her teenage daughter has gone off the rails…
If life begins at fifty, it’s off to a shaky start. April De Angelis’ frank and funny family drama charts the perils of growing up and growing old with refreshing candour in this instantly relatable look at mother-daughter relationships for anyone who has ever been tempted to open the wine before unpacking the shopping.

Union by Tim Barrow | The Lyceum, Edinburgh |
lyceum.org.uk/union
By Tim Barrow
Directed by Mark Thomson
Two Nations. Like oil and water, they cannot mix.
Union tells the story of the original Union of Scotland and England in 1707 as you've never heard it before.
Tim Barrow's play is an energetic and highly theatrical romp through the raucous leaking taverns off the Royal Mile, Kensington Palace and the Scottish Parliament.
Union is rich in famous historical figures such as Daniel Defoe and Queen Anne, as well as our great Scottish poet - Allan Ramsay - who finds love in Grace, a prostitute in the bawdy and dangerous world of Eighteenth Century Edinburgh.
Don't miss this big, foul-mouthed yet eloquent story as it leaps onto The Lyceum stage in the year of referendum.
