BACARDÍ Rum Delivers with Streamlined, Sustainable Packaging
It begins in an expansive, pristine forest in Georgia, in the southern United States. There, mature trees are selected for an evolution that results in beautiful, bright boxes that carry the award-winning BACARDÍ® rum to market. At every step along the way, sustainability is a key part of the equation -- from trees that generate cardboard containers, to production lines that bottle and box, to trucks that transport the product.
The way containers are stacked and loaded onto transport trucks now is streamlined -- another significant savings in terms of carbon footprint. Fewer trucks deliver the same amount of bottles.
At Bacardi, even the corrugated cardboard cases used to ship our product play a role, says BACARDÍ rum brand director Kevin Oglesby. They are designed to protect the bottles as well as reduce the environmental impact of our packaging.
Every cardboard container BACARDÍ rum uses for its packaging in North America originates from a sustainable forest. Harvested trees provide pulp for the recyclable cardboard cases -- close to 10 million a year -- and all receive endorsement from Forest Stewardship Council, Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, or Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
It's gratifying that Bacardi, with its philosophy of longevity and sustainability, is using a product grown on our land, says Joe Hopkins, a fourth-generation forester in Georgia. Our companies are working in the same direction, with the same long-term view for viability.
The overarching vision of the Bacardi Limited Good Spirited sustainability platform is to return to the environment as least as much as it takes away. The Company pledges to use eco-friendly design in its brand packaging and point-of-sale materials.
Since 2006, when the Company began reporting its global impacts on the environment, Bacardi has reduced energy use by nearly 28 percent, supported by a 28.5 percent decrease in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Building on current programs and efficiencies that reduce water and energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, the Bacardi Limited Good Spirited global sustainability program sets specific goals in three areas:
Global Packaging: By 2017, Bacardi plans to reduce the weight of its packaging by 10 percent and achieve 15 percent by 2022.
Responsible Sourcing: Bacardi strives to obtain all raw materials and packaging from sustainably sourced, renewable or recycled materials while maintaining or enhancing the economic status of growers and suppliers. By 2017, the goal is to obtain 40 percent of the sugarcane-derived products used to make BACARDÍ rum from certified, sustainable sources -- and 100 percent by 2022. This pledge from Bacardi is an industry first.
Operational Efficiencies: Bacardi continues to focus on reducing water use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with a 2017 goal to cut water use by 55 percent and GHG emissions by 50 percent. In addition, Bacardi aims to eliminate landfill waste at all of its production sites by 2022.

Thrillist - Museum Bar - Atlanta, GA
Transmogrifying an 1800s-era church into a restaurant/ bar/ lounge, Museum's a 15000sqft, three-level, five-bar tabernacle of good times, with a gold-carpeted canopy entrance from RDA, 17 crystal chandeliers, black church pews, an underground area with Gothic lamps, a bed-furnished VIP zone, and a concert stage ringed by the building's original stone wall, who's apparently still too pissed at the Civil War's outcome to stay dead. While brews and wine are available at all the bars, the showstopper's a 10ft-tall, cobalt blue Vodka Bar with 50+ clear spirits selected for their smoothness, plus specialty cocktails like the Museum Martini: blue electric lemonade with a Pop Rocks rim and a smoking layer of liquid nitrogen on top, so it's like a storm in your mouth, something the real Halle's already experienced through her X-Men. The kitchen's led by Jason Ellis of Hell's Kitchen fame, who's whipping up apps like white chocolate-drizzled lobster w/ wonton chips, smoked molasses BBQ beef ribs, smoked king crab legs in Moscato garlic butter, and a Sunday brunch with stuffings like orange sesame ginger Wings & Waffles, which you'd normally have to hit both the Nice Price CD bin and frozen sections to find at Wal-Mart. Chea!

Detailed Biography of Atlanta Trade Show Magician James Brandon:
Long before he became a trade show magician, James Brandon’s sister presented him with a starter magic set for his twelfth birthday. At the time she had no idea that it would inevitably lead to his professional career as a comedy magician, illusionist, emcee and actor.
His high-tech magic show gained him immediate success in Europe as he became the youngest variety artist to headline at the famed Alcazar de Paris. He concluded his 28th tour of Europe with a Command Performance for the Royal Family of Monaco.
Among the most prestigious Medals and Grand Prizes bestowed upon James are the Siegfried and Roy “Golden Lion Award” he received in Las Vegas, the World Magic Olympics Medal he won in Japan and the “Golden Mandrake”, presented in Paris.
U.S. appearances at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall sparked interest from 20th Century Fox who then hired James to turn Oscar winner Joe Pesci, into a “magician”, for the hit film, “My Cousin Vinny”.
6 South American tours supported by 23 television appearances resulted in his being featured on Univision’s “Best of Sabado Gigante” seen by 170 million people worldwide. The success of that one appearance led to James starring in the widely viewed American TV magic Specials, “The Great Magic of Las Vegas” for the Fox Family channel.
Naturally James relocated to Las Vegas where he went on to headline in 7 long running shows as emcee, comedy magician and illusionist, including “Splash” at the Riviera and “Imagine” at the Luxor.
James’ Magic and Grand Illusion show then toured Asia 7 times finishing off at Genting, a 2000 seat theater in Malaysia, where he sold out 2 shows a night for six straight months.
If James’ face seems familiar it might be due to the fact that for 3 years he was the pitch - magician for “IcyHot – Vanishing Scent” on their national TV commercials.
With the exception of a few select yearly appearances on television or in Las Vegas James currently dedicates all of his focus as a magician for trade shows.

McCain Gets Basic Iran Fact Wrong
McCain Gets Basic Facts on Iran Wrong.
QUESTION: I've done some research, and um -
MCCAIN: I have too.
QUESTION: Also checked, also checked with the Obama campaign and he never, he's never sai -- mentioned Ahmadinejad directly by name. He did say he would negotiate with the leaders, but as you know - Ayatollah,
MCCAIN: (Laughing) Ahmadinejad is, was the leader.
QUESTION: But if -
MCCAIN: Maybe I'm mistaken.
QUESTION: Maybe you are, because -
MCCAIN: Maybe. I don't think so though.
QUESTION: The Supreme, you know, according to most diplomatic experts, the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is the guy who's in charge of Iranian foreign policy and also in charge of the nuclear program, but you never mention him. Do you, you know, um, why do you always keep talking about Ahmadinejad since he doesn't have power in that, in that realm?
MCCAIN: Oh I thin-Again, I respectfully disagree. When he's the person that comes to the United Nations and declares his country's policy is the extermination of the state of Israel, quote, in his words, wipe them off of the map, then I know that he is speaking for the Iranian government and articulating their policy and he was elected and is running for reelection as the leader of that country. Yes sir, go ahead.
NEW QUESTION: One more quest-
MCCAIN: I mean, the fact is he's the acknowledged leader of that country and you may disagree, but that's a uh, that's your right to do so, but I think if you asked any average American who the leader of Iran is, I think they'd know. Go ahead. Or anyone who's well-versed in the issue.

[Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei heads a theocratic Shiite Muslim state with elements of a democratic republic, including regular elections for parliament and the presidency. . . . Iran's constitution does not recognize political parties. But authorities regulate political groups and even fund some organizations loyal to the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Our Miss Brooks: Boynton's Barbecue / Boynton's Parents / Rare Black Orchid
Our Miss Brooks is an American situation comedy starring Eve Arden as a sardonic high school English teacher. It began as a radio show broadcast from 1948 to 1957. When the show was adapted to television (1952--56), it became one of the medium's earliest hits. In 1956, the sitcom was adapted for big screen in the film of the same name.
Connie (Constance) Brooks (Eve Arden), an English teacher at fictional Madison High School.
Osgood Conklin (Gale Gordon), blustery, gruff, crooked and unsympathetic Madison High principal, a near-constant pain to his faculty and students. (Conklin was played by Joseph Forte in the show's first episode; Gordon succeeded him for the rest of the series' run.) Occasionally Conklin would rig competitions at the school--such as that for prom queen--so that his daughter Harriet would win.
Walter Denton (Richard Crenna, billed at the time as Dick Crenna), a Madison High student, well-intentioned and clumsy, with a nasally high, cracking voice, often driving Miss Brooks (his self-professed favorite teacher) to school in a broken-down jalopy. Miss Brooks' references to her own usually-in-the-shop car became one of the show's running gags.
Philip Boynton (Jeff Chandler on radio, billed sometimes under his birth name Ira Grossel); Robert Rockwell on both radio and television), Madison High biology teacher, the shy and often clueless object of Miss Brooks' affections.
Margaret Davis (Jane Morgan), Miss Brooks' absentminded landlady, whose two trademarks are a cat named Minerva, and a penchant for whipping up exotic and often inedible breakfasts.
Harriet Conklin (Gloria McMillan), Madison High student and daughter of principal Conklin. A sometime love interest for Walter Denton, Harriet was honest and guileless with none of her father's malevolence and dishonesty.
Stretch (Fabian) Snodgrass (Leonard Smith), dull-witted Madison High athletic star and Walter's best friend.
Daisy Enright (Mary Jane Croft), Madison High English teacher, and a scheming professional and romantic rival to Miss Brooks.
Jacques Monet (Gerald Mohr), a French teacher.
Our Miss Brooks was a hit on radio from the outset; within eight months of its launch as a regular series, the show landed several honors, including four for Eve Arden, who won polls in four individual publications of the time. Arden had actually been the third choice to play the title role. Harry Ackerman, West Coast director of programming, wanted Shirley Booth for the part, but as he told historian Gerald Nachman many years later, he realized Booth was too focused on the underpaid downside of public school teaching at the time to have fun with the role.
Lucille Ball was believed to have been the next choice, but she was already committed to My Favorite Husband and didn't audition. Chairman Bill Paley, who was friendly with Arden, persuaded her to audition for the part. With a slightly rewritten audition script--Osgood Conklin, for example, was originally written as a school board president but was now written as the incoming new Madison principal--Arden agreed to give the newly-revamped show a try.
Produced by Larry Berns and written by director Al Lewis, Our Miss Brooks premiered on July 19, 1948. According to radio critic John Crosby, her lines were very feline in dialogue scenes with principal Conklin and would-be boyfriend Boynton, with sharp, witty comebacks. The interplay between the cast--blustery Conklin, nebbishy Denton, accommodating Harriet, absentminded Mrs. Davis, clueless Boynton, scheming Miss Enright--also received positive reviews.
Arden won a radio listeners' poll by Radio Mirror magazine as the top ranking comedienne of 1948-49, receiving her award at the end of an Our Miss Brooks broadcast that March. I'm certainly going to try in the coming months to merit the honor you've bestowed upon me, because I understand that if I win this two years in a row, I get to keep Mr. Boynton, she joked. But she was also a hit with the critics; a winter 1949 poll of newspaper and magazine radio editors taken by Motion Picture Daily named her the year's best radio comedienne.
For its entire radio life, the show was sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive-Peet, promoting Palmolive soap, Lustre Creme shampoo and Toni hair care products. The radio series continued until 1957, a year after its television life ended.
