The Mendocino National Forest, Coastal Mountain Range, northwestern California
The Mendocino National Forest is located in the Coastal Mountain Range in northwestern California and comprises 913,306 acres (3,696 km2). It is the only national forest in the state of California without a major paved road entering it. There are a variety of recreational opportunities — camping, hiking, mountain biking, paragliding, backpacking, boating, fishing, hunting, nature study, photography, and off-highway vehicle travel.
The forest lies in parts of six counties. In descending order of forestland area they are Lake, Glenn, Mendocino, Tehama, Trinity, and Colusa counties.[1] Forest headquarters are located in Willows, California. There are local ranger district offices in Covelo, Upper Lake, and Stonyford.travel,

flood,The tule elk is one of the largest land mammals native to California, with cows weighing up to 350 pounds, and the largest bulls weighing roughly 500 pounds. Hunted to near extinction during the state's gold rush era, the animals were reintroduced to the Lake Pillsbury Basin in the late 1970s by the California Department of Fish and Game, and the herd has steadily grown, numbering around 80 in 2007.
The elk live on the north shore of the lake at the bottom of Hull Mountain, and enjoy wild clovers and grasses, along with the green summer and fall foliage around Lake Pillsbury's edges. Mendocino National Forest and Los Padres National Forest are the only two national forests in California to have tule elk. There is a 10-day hunting season beginning on the second Wednesday in September each year.
Vegetation
An estimated 60,000 acres (240 km2) of old growth occur here, including forests of Coast Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. menziesii), Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa), White Fir (Abies concolor), Tanoak (Lithocarpus densiflorus), and Pacific madrone (Arbutus menziesii).[8]

Decided to blend in three different parts from my time spent in the Mendo NF and Smith River areas of Northern California. Apologies for some the exposure levels and the one weird black out edit towards the end. The Mavic does not shoot very well in direct sunlight I plan on getting the Polar Pro filters to help with this in the near future.

California Drives - Redwood Forest Institute | Willits, CA USA
The Redwood Forest Institute is seeking caretakers. My husband and I drove 12 hours from south of Los Angeles to the 400-acre private property to meet the owner and discuss a potential future together, caring for the property and helping the nonprofit with its mission to provide access to the redwoods for education and recreation.
Although we will not be moving there, we will be volunteering for Redwood Forest Institute in technical, administrative, marketing, and fundraising capacities.
You will find quite a bit of information about the Redwood Forest Institute, and its founder Charles Bello, already on YouTube & Google, including several interviews and videos about him, his love for the trees, and what he's done since he purchased 400 acres in 1968.
What you won't find is a video of the drive down Immulco Road. In our video, you can experience it as we did the first time. After over 10 hours driving up from south of Los Angeles, this is the final hour of the drive, in the middle of nowhere, down more than 11 miles of an old dirt logging road. Enjoy!

My last day of hiking with my friend David in the northern California forests, came as a complete surprise. He mentioned a cool reserve, not too far from his property in Fort Bragg, Ca. I was totally taken aback by the hidden , far from the tourist haven as was Avenue of the Giants near Myers Flat, and Redwood Forest State Preserve in Orrick,Ca.
Anyway, we found more bipedal sign here in this remote spot. I'm talking more mini structure , larger structure, tree caves, rock caves, and a calm feeling. In no way did we get consumed by the overwhelming feeling of walking in a circular vortex for 3 hours as we felt near Pepperwood hiking trails. Anyway, enjoy the videos..

So, I hear you want to know more about Ukiah.
Located in Northern California, Ukiah is the county seat and largest city of Mendocino County. Norman Cramptin's publication The 100 Best Small Towns in America rated Ukiah the 6th best small town to live in the nation, and the number 1 town in California. From a plethora of small businesses to a Museum inside a Redwood tree to being located in the wine country to a range of wild animals, Ukiah provides a very diverse, rich environment for a population of 15,000.
Many famous people have come from Ukiah. If you're a sports fan, Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback of the 2011 Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers, spent his childhood in Ukiah and attended the local Oak Manor Elementary School. If you're into technology, Ukiah Resident Carl Sassenrath created the Amiga Computer Operating System in 1985 and introduced computer multitasking to the PC. If you're a person of faith, Rick Warren, a man born and raised in Ukiah, was the pastor who spoke the prayer at Barack Obama's presidential inauguration in 2009.
For those looking to raise children, the City of Ukiah put forth considerable effort to have plenty of family activities and events around town. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been invested in giant playgrounds. The year-round events include a giant pumpkin weigh-off, a pumpkin festival, a flashback car show, a cinco de mayo celebration, a farmer's market, a trolley, free movies, and free concerts in the park. An small-town advantage is that traffic will almost never be a problem, most everything can be reached in a 10 minute's drive.
The drawback to Ukiah, though, is finding high-paying jobs. Estimated median household income for Ukiah in 2009 was 37,772 dollars, up 14% from 2000. However, this pales in comparison to California's average income. 78% of Ukiah's adults only have a high school diploma, meaning that someone with a college degree would stand out. This is a double-edged sword though, because if one does not have their degree in health services, education or law, one will have a very hard time finding a well-paying legal job opportunity. Due to Mendocino County's somewhat lax laws regarding the growth and possession of marijuana, many have opted to grow weed as a source of income.
In summary, find your job first, then move to Ukiah, not the other way around.
