Mayberry Days, Mount Airy, NC
We took a weekend trip to Mount Airy, NC. They have Mayberry Days for about 2 weeks each fall. As many of you may know, Andy Griffith was born and raised here. He has said that his show was based on growing up in this quaint small town. During the many episodes of The Andy Griffith show, you here people mention Raleigh, NC as the capitol, which it is. You also here Siler City, which is a small town about 60 miles away. You may also recognize Pilot Mountain, NC. This area is referred to as Mount Pilot on the show. Whether you want to see the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, visit nice little small towns that bring you back to a simpler time, or visit some of Andy's hometown spot and his museum, this is a nice little town to spend a weekend. Until a few years ago not many people in Mount Airy paid attention to the Ararat River. That's because it was what some considered an underutilized eye-sore. But not anymore. The new Ararat River Greenway is now one of the town's main attractions.

2018 Citizen of the Year Presentation at Mount Airy City Schools Headquarters
After the 2018 Citizen of the Year was selected from the nominating committee, it was discovered that the person could not attend the 58th Annual Meeting due to a special family event he could not miss. With the help of many community members the award presentation was scheduled and filmed prior to the event. This is the video shown at the 58th Annual Meeting to officially announce the 2018 Citizen of the Year.

Walking the streets and talking to the locals is the best part of visiting this town and it doesn't take long to realize where the idea for Mayberry came about. Mt. Continuation of our weekend trip to Mayberry Days and the Mayberry Campground in Mount Airy, NC. We were lucky enough to have Eng, one of the original Siamese Twins, great granddaughter give us a tour of her childhood home that was built by her grandfather, son of Eng.
