Burgh Island and the Bigbury Bay Sea Tractor to the Hotel and Pilchard Inn.
Come to Devon and visit Burgh Island for your holiday. We have lovely beaches including this beach which has a mirror shore line. Waves in front of you and behind you as the tide rises and encloses the bay.
Bigbury Bay is in the South West of England. Watch the sea tractor cross from the hotel on Burgh island to the mainland. The sea is no obstacle for the sea tractor. Also on Burgh Island is the Pilchard Inn
Burgh Island Hotel is connected to the famous crime novelist Agatha Christie. It inspired the settings for two novels, Then There Were None and the Hercule Poirot mystery Evil Under the Sun.
The art deco Burgh Island hotel has attracted many famous people over the years. The Beatles have visited the hotel. Other visitors include Noël Coward, Edward and Mrs. Simpson and it is said that Eisenhower and Churchill prior to the D Day landings in France.
Sorry its a noisy video of the beach and sea tractor at Burgh Island, but I didn't want to ruin the Burgh Island magic by overwriting with music.

Places to see in ( Bigbury on Sea - UK )
Bigbury-on-Sea is a village in the South Hams district on the south coast of Devon, England. It is part of the civil parish of Bigbury which is centred on a small village of that name about a mile inland. Bigbury-on-Sea village is on the coast above the largest sandy beach in South Devon facing south to Bigbury Bay. The tidal island of Burgh Island lies about 270 yards (250 metres) offshore.
At the start of the 20th century Bigbury-on-Sea consisted of a few fishermen's cottages with fish cellars. The village grew with the growth in holidaymaking and now has a beach cafe, and by the mainland side of causeway is the Burgh Island Causeway resort built in 1998 replacing the burnt out fishermen's cottages after a controversial planning application. The resort is made up of privately owned and holiday let flats and a private leisure club with indoor pool and gym. The Devon Coastal Path runs behind the resort.
The large sandy beach is very popular for wave and wind based water sports, but it lost its Blue Flag beach status in 2012 due to water quality issues. There are two large car parks with easy access to the beaches and the walk across the sand bar to Burgh Island with its Art Deco Hotel and Pilchard Inn. When the tide covers the sand bar access is by the sea tractor.

Burgh Island Bigbury Bay
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:-
Burgh Island is a small tidal island on the coast of South Devon in England near the small seaside village of Bigbury-on-Sea. There are several buildings on the island, the largest being the Art Deco Burgh Island Hotel. The other buildings are three private houses, and a public house, the Pilchard Inn, run by the hotel.
Notable visitors
Burgh Island is closely linked to Agatha Christie, as it served as the inspirational setting for both Ten Little Niggers and the Hercule Poirot mystery Evil Under the Sun. The hotel, with its eloquent Art Deco styling, was also a bolt hole in the 1930s for some of London's rich and famous, including Noël Coward. The 2002 TV adaptation of Evil Under The Sun used the island as a filming location. In 1994 an episode of the television series Lovejoy was set and filmed on the island. It was entitled 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'.
The island was also the location for GMTV's Inch-loss Island slimming feature in 2008, as it was for the original series in 2001. The climactic scene of the 1965 British film Catch Us If You Can (featuring The Dave Clark Five) takes place at the island.
British musician Ben Howard released his Burgh Island EP in November 2012. This was inspired by his memories of surfing the beaches around Burgh Island.
Transport
The sea tractor is used to ferry visitors to the island during high tide
The island is approximately 270 yards (250 m) from the mainland at Bigbury-on-Sea and is approachable on foot at low tide. At high tide, the sea tractor, which is operated by the hotel, transports passengers back and forth. The original vehicle was constructed in 1930; the current third generation tractor dates from 1969. The vehicle drives across the beach with its wheels underwater on the sandy bottom while its driver and passengers sit on a platform high above. Power from a Fordson tractor engine is relayed to the wheels via hydraulic motors.

A Visit to M.R. James's Seaburgh
Mike and Will from the M.R. James podcast visit Aldeburgh in Suffolk, the coastal town on which M.R. James based 'Seaburgh' in his classic ghost story 'A Warning to the Curious'.
Locations visited include Aldeburgh parish church, The White Lion Hotel (which was the basis for 'The Bear' in the story), the Aldeburgh war memorial, Sluice Cottage (William Ager's house from the story), the possible location of the crown site and the Martello tower.
We finally visited Great Livermere, the Suffolk village where M.R. James grew up. The parish church has a memorial plaque to M.R. James and the graveyard features a number of 'Mothersole' graves, a name used by James in 'The Ash Tree'.
