OREGON WINE - TOP PLACES to go WINE TASTING????- vlog
In this video, we are in search of the best wineries in Oregon. We travel to the Tualatin Valley Wine Region, which is only 35 minutes from Portland and is internationally renowned for their Pinot Noir and rural rustic landscapes.
The Tualatin Valley is one of the best day trips from Portland with over 700 wineries and counting. The hospitality of the wineries, natural setting, and exquisite wines make it a must-see destination.
We visit in August, which the perfect time to visit because the grapes have color and are almost ready for harvest. Wine harvest season usually occurs in September through October.

Welcome to Thirst Bistro Bar
Thirst Bistro opened in 2006 with our main dining room, bar and outside space. Thirst expanded with The River Room (private parties) in 2008 and expanded our menu from traditional wine bar to full restaurant including spirits and cocktails. In 2010 we opened The Cellar, another private dining room where we also hold our wine dinners and classes. Thirst has patio seating for 100 outside on the Esplanade and is the best place to watch downtown fireworks in the summer and The Christmas Ships in December. Enjoy the unobstructed River and Bridge views year-round.
Leslie Palmer and Gary Kneski are the Co-Owners of Thirst Bistro.
Leslie is an 18 year veteran of marketing management in Corporate America (Gillette, Intel), and when Thirst opened in 2006, she continued working at Intel while managing all events, marketing and business/financial management at Thirst. She left Intel in 2008 for focus full time on Thirst. Leslie graduated from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh with a degree in communications and earned a Master’s Degree in Public Relations from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. When not at Thirst, she enjoys cooking, making jewelry, traveling, decorating, reading, films and especially spending time with her three little kids.
Gary Kneski, Co-Owner and Wine Director at Thirst Bistro is a former video producer and high tech sales manager. He has a degree in Mass Communications from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. Gary left the corporate world in 2005 to build, open and manage Thirst. Gary studied wine theory and wine making at Chemeketa Community College, worked at Elk Cove Winery for a season, and was a tour guide for Grape Escape Wine Tours. He has made wine at home, as well as beer. He is a frequent judge for Oregon wine competitions. Gary enjoys continually learning about wine because of his deep appreciation for the talent and time involved in growing grapes and also the patience involved in making great wines. His favorite wines are Willamette Pinot Noir, Walla Walla Syrah, Red Mountain Blends, and Paso Robles Grenache. When Gary is not at Thirst, he enjoys traveling, photography, fishing, golf, gardening, making pizza and chasing after his kids.

Wine Is Serious Business 345: Brandborg Riesling From 2005-2009
While visiting Southern Oregon, Chas stopped by the Brandborg tasting room in Elkton. He enjoyed the stop, and noticed a table full of library wines. At only $20 a piece, he couldn’t resist the opportunity to pick up a five year vertical centered on 2007. That’s an average of 10 years old across the five wines! We’re thrilled to bring content like this, and hope you enjoy these wines from one of Oregon’s newest AVA’s.

Our beers are available in cans and on draft in our tasting room in Portland's East Bayside neighborhood and at select locations in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
Liquid Riot:
The Liquid Riot Bottling Company was established on the waterfront in Portland’s Old Port, just blocks from City Hall and the location of the Portland Rum Riot, in homage to those that fought for their beverage of choice. As Maine’s first Brewery/Distillery/Resto-Bar, we take all the passion and energy of these past riots and put it into our own liquids, bottled or on tap, made fresh locally for your enjoyment.
Central Provisions:
The name Central Provisions pays homage to the original name of Dana Street and the first use of the building. Daniel Fox, who worked for the East India Trading Company, constructed a building to be used as a storehouse for provisions. This federal style brick building was erected on the corner of Fore and Central Street (now Dana Street) directly on the Wharf. The East India Trading Company’s ships would sail directly up to the building and unload their goods such as cotton, silk, indigo dye, salt, saltpeter, tea, and opium. In 1874, the East India Trade Company was dissolved. Throughout history, 414 Fore Street has served many different purposes. A wine and bitters shop named Rufus and Son’s moved into the building in 1894. They moved across the street and a barrel top and burlap bags shop moved in. After that, it was home to E. Cory who sold local blacksmiths and wood workers tools and materials.
Blue Rooster:
Hip counter serve offering creative, elevated spins on hot dogs, sandwiches & tater tots. Great food, great value; friendly, helpful staff. Best hotdogs, falafel. All good.
Taco Escobar:

Oregon: Long Weekend Travel Guide for Couples 2018
Venture to Oregon... one of the USA's gems. Plan a long weekend to the cool, up-and-coming, Pacific Northwest where you can experience everything from wine country to hipster eateries, biking, hiking and everything in between.
And best of all, it's doable over the course of a long weekend. Here's what you'll be checking out in the video!
Youngberg Hill - Start your day at Youngberg Hill, which we were lucky enough to stay at. As we wrote about in a post about our stay there, it has the most beautiful views of the valley and is such a nice way to start the day.
Willakenzie - Our next stop was the beautiful Willakenzie Estate. This vineyard was visually stunning, with rolling hills of grape vines mixes in with Oregon’s iconic green pine trees.
Gran Moraine - After Willakenzie, we visited its sister winery just a few minutes drive down the road, called Gran Moraine. Visually, the vineyard is less breathtaking than the others we visited during the day, but their wines were very good.
Stoller Family Estate - Next, we headed to Stoller Family Estate and instantly fell in love with their tasting room. The design details here are really special.
Dinner at Joel Palmer House - End your day of wine tasting by treating yourself to a delicious meal at Joel Palmer House with MORE wine.
Hike Mount Hood: Before driving to Portland from Willamette, we took a little detour to Mount Hood for some mountain air and a hike. This was truly one of the (many) highlights of our trip, and something we can’t recommend enough.
Timberline Lodge that is a great place to get a drink at the mountain. Fun fact: it is where the shining was filmed, so be sure to sneak upstairs to the rooms to walk the hall where those infamous creepy twins were filmed!
Biketown
Pearl District: Ride your bike over to the Pearl District, which is a hipster/yuppy part of town with great shops, restaurants and bars. We loved Tanner Springs park
Powell’s City of Books
Cartlandia: Next, head to “Cartlandia” for a casual lunch
Dinner and Drinks at Basecamp: Head to this brewery for some beers and eats for a quintessentially Portland experience
International Rose Test Garden: Get up nice and early and check those Biketown bikes out again for a day hitting the pavement in Portland
Saturday Market
Brunch at Fireside: Make a reservation for brunch at Fireside in Portland’s Alphabet District.
Salt & Straw: This ice cream shop is a Portland institution that has now spread to other cities on the West Coast.
Cannon Beach: Dedicate a full day to Cannon Beach, just an hour and a half from Portland. We got up early and drove out to Cannon Beach for some amazing hikes with cliff views and some beach time.
Ecola Point Trail: For a scenic hike that will burn out your thighs and offer scenic cliff views of the turquoise waters at the beach, head to Ecola State Park for one of their many hikes.
Haystack Hill: One of the most iconic and recognizable parts of Oregon is Haystack Hill, a giant rock formation on the beach that was popularized in the 80s movie, Goonies.
Dishin' with Drew: Barrel Aged Cocktails?
Master Mixologist Drew Levinson dishes about the new barrel aged cocktail craze.
A Barrel-aged cocktail is exactly what it sounds like. It is the process of combining all standard ingredients in a specific cocktail, barrel-aging it for roughly a month and then serving the resulting concoction. The aging process results in a unique, refined flavor of almost any aged cocktail.
Be sure to look out for commercially sold barrel-aged cocktails from Craft Distillers, whose products also include a barrel-aged brandy and cranberry liquor called The Saint Nick.

Washington State Wine and Lake Country - Woodmark Hotel - Travel in 10 Podcast
On this edition of the Travel in 10 Podcast we visit the Woodmark Hotel, by Destination Hotels & Resorts. It is located about 25 minutes from downtown Seattle, but feels like it is hours away with an upscale beach resort vibe.
It is located right on the shore of Lake Washington and has a wide variety of activities such as kayaking, jet skis, ski boats and stand up paddle boards all that can be rented just outside the hotel.
The rooms have recently been renovated and have a great water view. The hotel also has a number of great quirky amenities like their Raid the Pantry feature, essentially a free night-time extensive snack bar for guests in the lobby, or the hotel resident dog, a black lab you can take out for a jog on the lake.
Their signature restaurant Bin on the Lake features an extensive collection of regional wines, on tap, meaning you can sample a wide variety of high quality wines by the glass. They also have an excellent spa on site.
The location also make this an ideal jumping off point to explore some of the nearby wineries of Washington in nearby Woodinville or the galleries and shops in upscale Kirkland. We will be taking you to visit Chateau St. Michelle Winery and then finishing off the tour at the Future of Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour.
This trip makes a great weekend away from Vancouver, BC, Victoria, BC or Portland, Oregon.

In-N-Out Burger VS. Five Guys (American Fast Food Review!)

Phoenix, Arizona
I’ve eaten In-N-Out Burger before and I’ve eaten Five Guys before… but this was my first time to ever eat them back to back. In this video I’m taking you on a full burger review comparison between In-N-Out and Five Guys, two burger chains with extremely loyal followings.
In-N-Out Burger
I ordered the Double Double and extra crispy fries. Now to keep things consistent for the review, I couldn’t go all crazy with their secret menu of toppings, so all I ordered was extra onions.
Prices - Double Double - $3.85, Extra crispy fries - $1.80
The Double Double from In-N-Out is indeed extremely tasty and salty and it has an amazing balance of tastes and everything goes together in such harmony. However, after finishing the Double Double I walked away still quite hungry.
Five Guys
Next we drove over to Five Guys, luckily just a 5 minute drive from In-N-Out Burger. Again, I kept it pretty simple and just ordered their cheeseburger all the way, and a side of regular fries. You’ll notice immediately that the prices are twice as high as In-N-Out, however, we’ll find out that their burger weight probably twice as much as well.
Prices - Cheeseburger - $7.99, Fries - $4.29
The Five Guys Cheeseburger is heavy and dense, and they already press down the bun for you, so it’s not fluffy at all. The ingredients inside are great, and I especially enjoyed the mushrooms inside. The burger is definitely not as salty as In-N-Out, however it tastes better quality.
VERDICT:
It sort of depends on what mood you’re in, and you do have to take into account that Five Guys is twice as expensive as In-N-Out - so you could eat two Double Doubles for the same price as one Five Guys cheeseburger.
I think the In-N-Out Double Double is tastier, possibly because it’s saltier, but the Five Guys burger tastes fresher, more natural, and a little more home-cooked styles. Overall, I would choose Five Guys more often than In-N-Out Burger. That’s my final verdict.
What about you? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Central New York: Brew Central – Life of Reilley Distilling & Wine Co.
Despite running around his busy distillery most of his waking hours, flip-flops remain Ben’s footwear of choice. In fact, he wears them with shorts all year round. Such is the Life of Reilley, a company and philosophy rooted in a carefree and comfortable existence.
Ben and Shioban Reilley took a big leap of faith launching the distillery, Madison County’s first since Prohibition.
A former vintner, Ben had never piloted a still. But, his passion for enjoying and making craft beverages pushed him into business producing vodkas that now quickly disappear for distribution after bottling.
In the same way the “little things” make the Reilley way of life worth living, it’s the attention to detail that makes Reilley’s vodka worth drinking. The exclusively New York-grown ingredients give Ben’s spirits a solid, subtle flavor intended to inspire relaxation.
Ben: I was the director of operations for a local winery for 4 years, and quite honestly, my wife and I sat down after 4 years and we said, If you're going to work 80 hours a week for somebody, it might as well be for yourself. We saw a hole in the marketplace for a local, micro-craft distillery. We said, You know what? Beverage chemistry is beverage chemistry. Again, so we sat down and Life of Reilley was born. It was kind of an antiquated term, it basically means the carefree, comfortable life- which as you can see in my flip flops and my shorts- it says right on our bottle, the definition of the life of Reilley is a carefree, comfortable existence.
For us, it's riding down to Cazenovia Lake with the top down on the Jeep, swimming in the lake all day and having campfire with friends, and just having an awesome time. At the same time, being cognizant of where your stuff comes from, enjoying the sunset and enjoying the small things in life, so that's how Life of Reilley was born. For us, it's the story I like to tell is craft spirits are where wine was 20-25 years ago, and craft beer was 10-15 years ago. Now people are turning their attention to the back of the bar. They're saying, Okay, I want to know where my wine comes from. I want to know where my beer comes from. Now I want to know where my spirits come from. We're kind of riding that crest of popularity. I find it just to be a natural extension of people wanting to know where their stuff is, supporting local and know that they're supporting local farmers and families.
I think that's what people don't really understand when it comes to craft beverages. Aren't you worried about 1911, aren't you worried about Adirondack? No, I'd like to have my tasting room right next to them! All we're looking to do is grow the New York pie, and get more people into New York products. In terms of Central New York, I think we're on the forefront. I've always thought we were on the forefront of people trying to understand where their stuff comes from, and then reinvesting back into the community. There is something so cool happening in the Utica/Central New York area that my theory on that is Utica and the Mohawk Valley got such a poor rep for such a long time, that so many young people finally just bubbled up and said, I'm not going anywhere, I'm going to start building something cool right in my backyard.
We use 100 percent New York flaked corn, comes from the Finger Lakes, mostly Skinny Atlas, Auburn, Geneva area. We get it sourced here, it comes by 18-wheeler. 30-foot auger comes swinging out and gets pumped right into those bags over there. Are disco lemonade is raspberry vodka, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and we use about 20-25 mint leaves that we soak overnight. That'll be our disco lemonade product. After that, the sky's the limit when it comes to pre-mixed cocktails. We're taking our business in a completely different direction. We've poured it for people and they've absolutely loved it.
Whether tipping a farm-to-glass beer at a brewpub, sampling some moonshine or enjoying a sip of hard cider or wine, you’ll be a part of something special in Brew Central. Central New York brewers, distillers, publicans and vintners offer the state’s best craft beverages on par with any of the United States’ finest pints. Pack up the car and head to America’s Craft Brew Destination! Craft your brew road trip today at

Travel Oregon Magazine: Nick's Italian Cafe
Since opening in 1977, Nick's has been a McMinnville stalwart for hungry winemakers and wine drinkers alike. Founder Nick Peirano recently handed over the reins to his daughter Carmen, and her husband Eric Ferguson. Bringing culinary training and passion from San Francisco and Italy, the couple has reinvigorated the restaurant's focus on regional Italian dishes, including exceptional wood-fired pizza, and expanded the Back Room bar into the kind of gathering spot worthy of staying up late for (Tip: Be wary. Winemakers are good at pool.) The wine list at Nick's is equally notable, boasting a well-edited selection of area standouts from both recent vintages as well as treasures from Nick's carefully built cellar. You can choose a 1976 Eyrie Vineyards Pinot from Oregon pioneer David Lett, or a 2008 Black Cap from Lett's son Jason, who's carrying on the family tradition.
