OTIS Traction Elevator - Reed Opera House - Salem, OR
This is another of my childhood elevators. Despite the mod, I love this elevator very much. I will upload a separate short video of pictures I got of the Portland elevator, which was sitting open on 2. I respect property owners and did not ride it. I took a quick peek in it and took a few photos. Anyway, Enjoy!

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:

SUMMARY
=======
Salem is the capital of the U.S. state of Oregon, and the county seat of Marion County. It is located in the center of the Willamette Valley alongside the Willamette River, which runs north through the city. The river forms the boundary between Marion and Polk counties, and the city neighborhood of West Salem is in Polk County. Salem was founded in 1842, became the capital of the Oregon Territory in 1851, and was incorporated in 1857.
Salem had a population of 154,637 at the 2010 census, making it the third largest city in the state after Portland and Eugene. Salem is a little more than an hour's driving distance away from Portland. Salem is the principal city of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area, a metropolitan area that covers Marion and Polk counties and had a combined population of 390,738 at the 2010 census. A 2013 estimate placed the metropolitan population at 400,408, the state's second largest. The city is home to Willamette University, Corban University, and Chemeketa Community College. The State of Oregon is the largest public employer in the city, and Salem Health is the largest private employer. Transportation includes public transit from Salem-Keizer Transit (which operates under the name Cherriots), Amtrak service and non-commercial air travel at McNary Field. Major roads include Interstate 5, Oregon Route 99E, and Oregon Route 22, which connects West Salem across the Willamette River via the Marion Street and Center Street bridges.
House Tour
2009 Old North St. Louis House & Community Tour
14th Street and St. Louis Ave.
Date: May 9, 2009
Time: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Tickets: $10 in advance ($12 day of tour), available online at our shop or by calling the Restoration Group office at 314-241-5031
If you've been to Crown Candy Kitchen in the past year or so, you've seen a lot of construction across the street at the former 14th Street Mall. On May 9, see what's been going on behind all that chain link and strandboard during the Old North St. Louis Home and Community Tour, when that two-block stretch of rehabbed buildings now rechristened Crown Square is opened to the public. In fact, you'll want to pick up your tour map and program at Old North St. Louis Restoration Group's new office space at 2700 N. 14th Street (which was a Kroger, a furniture store and Worth's Department Store in its former lifetimes) right in the heart of the refurbished strip.
Though Crown Square shows off some of the more dramatic changes in the neighborhood, this annual spring tour has built up a fanbase of repeat visitors because it showcases such a huge range of historic architecture -- some of it dating back 150 years and offers the rare chance to see buildings in various states of rehab, from gutted-and-framed to finished gem. This year's tour features 10 historic homes, as well as a number of gardens; tour-goers can amble through the neighborhood at their leisure, or take advantage of the free shuttle service. Old North St. Louis, which has been dubbed an urban village on the edge of downtown, was recently praised by Kaid Benfield, director of the Smart Growth Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council, as the very antithesis of sprawl; St. Louis Magazine proclaimed it a bankable bet, with a mix of old-timers and energetic newcomers making the nabe click.
Proceeds from tour ticket sales go to support ongoing neighborhood improvement efforts (including more cool projects you may see on the tour next year, or in years to come). And don't forget that the price of your ticket includes a free ice cream cone from Crown Candy Kitchen, which means it all comes full circle you can stand on the corner and look across the street, this time without the mystery, or the chain link fence, obstructing your view.

Reuploaded to fix an editing mistake.
I put my camera in my pocket when people got in the elevator for 2 reasons.
1: I think there might be laws against recording patients in hospitals without their consent. If I am wrong about this (or if you are sure I am correct), tell me in a comment, and tell me your sources.
2: Hospitals often don't allow photography, likely for the above reason.
I have tried to edit out these parts so there are not long parts of the video where my camera is in my pocket.
Here is a photo of these elevators before the most recent modernization:
These elevators are labeled Elevators A. Otis Series 2 fixtures, with white plastic call buttons. Before the most recent modernization, these elevators had Dover Impulse lanterns, and Adams Designer fixtures.
Year installed: Circa 1965 (oddly, the state ID number on one of the elevators suggests that it is newer, but I am guessing it is wrong).

Suspense: Donovan's Brain
Thrillers often overlap with mystery stories but are distinguished by the structure of their plots. In a thriller, the hero must stop the plans of an enemy rather than uncover a crime that has already happened. Mystery thrillers also occur on a much grander scale: the crimes that must be prevented are serial or mass murder, terrorism, assassination, or the overthrow of governments. Jeopardy and violent confrontations are standard plot elements in the mystery-thriller genre (i.e., Triangle), unlike in the mystery genre where the story is more downbeat and dramatic (i.e., Changeling).
While a mystery climaxes when the mystery is solved (i.e., Gosford Park), a mystery thriller climaxes when the hero finally defeats the villain (after reveal), saves his own life and often the lives of others (i.e., Oldboy). There is very little violence, menace and threat in mystery/detective films (especially between the villain and other innocent people), whilst the violence is quite intense in thrillers and the villain is more ruthless. In thrillers influenced by film noir and tragedy, the compromised hero is often killed in the process.
A thriller isn't just about someone being murdered. There is always something bigger and more important at stake behind the murder that may endanger more lives. Where in a mystery the motive for a crime such as insurance fraud can be greed, in a thriller mere money doesn't come across as believable for all the terrible things the antagonist will do.
