We Tried Icelandic Foods | How Expensive is Reykjavík?
We are on the hunt to find delicious and traditional Icelandic foods right here in Reykjavik, whilst also giving you an idea on the costs of food and groceries here in Iceland.
First stop we headed to Kaffibrennslan to try or favourite thing ever...coffee of course before heading out to Vagninn on the water to try some street food fish and chips with remoulade pickled mayonnaise sauce.
Next up and the dish we were most excited to try was Lobstersoup from Seabaron as well as their Haddock fish kebab before heading off to the 10-11 grocery store to show you the cost of eggs, milk and bread and whilst we were there we had to try Skyr yoghurt and appelsin soda.
To end our food tour in Reykjavik we made our way to Cafe Loki to try Rye bread icecream and mashed fish on rye bread as well as herron with eggs.
Yes we realise there are a lot of strange Iceland food out there like fermented shark and horse head, in this video we just wanted to show you some delicious foods rather than the weird ones :)

They say that sharing a meal is the best way to get to know each other, we think our Reykjavik Food Lovers Tour with at least 6 foodie stops is even better!
Our stops include the oldest restaurant in Reykjavik, a legendary hot dog stand, our favorite food market and one of the top restaurants in Iceland.
If you’re a food lover, then a casual stroll around Reykjavik, sampling traditional dishes from some of our favorite spots, is going to be your little slice of heaven.
Our Reykjavik Food Lovers Tour samples at least 15 different Icelandic dishes; both traditional classics and modern favorites. We know all the best spots to get the famous Icelandic lamb soup (just like mamma makes it), Skyr (a type of yogurt) and delicious lobster soup. You can even try some fermented shark if you dare.
Keep warm with a belly full of good food!
Icelandic food isn’t well known by the rest of the world, but we’re hoping to change that. We have long, dark winters where we spend a lot of time indoors, and we have an abundance of fresh meat, fish and dairy, so we’ve kinda perfected this whole ‘cooking’ business.
You’ll learn what the Vikings ate and how Icelandic people have survived harsh winters thanks to our special cooking and preserving methods.
The tour runs every Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm – 4:00 pm and on some weekdays at 5 pm and we’ll walk around 2.5km, making plenty of stops along the way. With no more than 12 people on a tour, you’ll be able to ask any questions about Icelandic food and culture, plus make a few new friends. And, you certainly won’t leave feeling hungry!

In one of the old green fisherman´s huts down by the harbour in Reykjavík, you will find one of the most famous fish restaurants in the country. The owner is a retired fisherman who owns the fish shop next door and therefore always provides the freshest fish for his courses. He is famous for example for his lobster soup not just in Iceland but around the world.

The Reykjavik by food tour takes you around the streets and into restaurants to taste of some of our delicious and bizarre traditional Icelandic food. In between places, your host will introduce you to Icelandic food customs and traditions while suggesting different restaurants for you to try.
We will stop at selected restaurants and cafés for a taste of the food we learn about. The tour starts from the ITM Information Centre in Bankastræti 2 at 12:00.

TRYING ICELANDIC FOOD IN REYKJAVIK | THE ADELAIDIAN
Before heading to Iceland, we’d heard A LOT of different rumours about the food there. From the infamous rotten shark to sky high pricing, we really didn’t know what to expect what we went, but in all honesty the food was actually pretty great. In the vlog above we try some different Icelandic foods and talk about the places and prices, so you know what to expect when you embark on your adventure up north.
Places we went to:
Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur (hotdog stand)
Kolaportið Flea Market (fish jerky, fermented shark)
Sægreifinn (lobster soup)
Íslenski Barinn (grilled fish and veg)
While it was super fun trying all the different foods in the video, as you can see prices really vary and eating out for every meal can start to add up quickly. We went to a supermarket and bought a lot of our food to take around with us, and only really ate out for one, sometimes two meals a day.
