Service of Consecration of Guildford Cathedral, 17 May 1961:
(This is a restored version of a damaged telerecording copy of the live BBC TV broadcast of the Service of Consecration, which took place in the still-unfinished cathedral in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, with the cathedral choir, directed by Barry Rose and accompanied by Simon Preston. The commentator was Richard Dimbleby. The cathedral choir was enhanced for the occasion by professional singers from London and by choristers from St Andrew’s Kingsbury, North London, where Barry Rose had been organist and choirmaster before taking up his appointment at Guildford. The film shows just how far apart the choir stalls at Guildford are – the furthest apart of any British cathedral, in fact, which is why Guildford broke new ground by having its services conducted “from the floor”, a practice that was virtually unheard of at the time. We ask your indulgence for the generally poor quality of the audio, which makes the choristers sound as if they suffer from vibrato, and for occasional missing frames in the film, whereby both picture and sound jump from time to time. In pochi conoscevano questo luogo che è diventato famoso a livello mondiale dopo l’uscita del romanzo Il Codice da Vinci, che ambienta qui alcune scene e che fornisce diverse interpretazioni sui significati dell’iconografia delle sculture e dei bassorilievi della cappella.
Infatti l’interno è decorato in maniera quasi ossessiva, senza lasciare un centimetro libero, a creare veri e propri giardini di pietra in cui si mescolano simboli e icone della massoneria e di sette segrete. Questo gioiello gotico è ancora oggi al centro della fantasia legata al mondo del Santo Graal e dei cavalieri templari

Edinburgh Castle is a world famous icon of Scotland and part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site.
It was recently voted top UK Heritage Attraction in the British Travel Awards and is Scotland’s number one paid-for tourist attraction.
This most famous of Scottish castles has a complex building history. The oldest part, St Margaret's Chapel, dates from the 12th century; the Great Hall was erected by James IV around 1510; the Half Moon Battery by the Regent Morton in the late 16th century; and the Scottish National War Memorial after the First World War.
The castle houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg, the One O' Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland.

LS to CU As the coffin bearing Princess Marina, borne by NCO's of the three regiments she was colonel of, is brought down the steps from the chapel and placed in a waiting hearse. MS Pan as hearse drives away under the Henry VIII gate, pan back to royal mourners on the steps of the chapel. Immediate family of Duke and Duchess of Kent, Princess Alexandra and Angus Ogilvy, and Prince Michael are foremost with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in background. They enter their car and drive off. MS As the Queen and Duke pause to speak with the Dean of Windsor, the Very Rev. Robin Woods, before entering their car and driving off.
