Exploring Warialda, Cranky Rocks and Sawn Rocks
It pays to stay at these little country towns. Warialda is an excellent stopping point to visit the Cranky Rock Nature Reserve and Sawn Rocks which is part of the Mt Kaputar National Park. While you are in town, don't forget to wander the streets and check out the street art by David Moore. The name 'Warialda' means the Place of Wild Honey in the local aboriginal language.
Rock wallabies at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve
I recently spent a night out south of Canberra helping Tidbinbilla rangers and ecologists from ACT Parks and Wildlife with their surveys of the endangered Southern brush-tailed rock wallabies. There are only 80 of these remarkable Australian animals left in the world. Without the support and efforts of places like Tidbinbilla, they would most likely be #extinct in the wild.
Australia's #ThreatenedSpecies Strategy is for all our creatures great and small. This is just one of their stories.

Following the production of my previous video which highlighted concerns about 'the detention of children behind bars' in places of asylum; and 'the cruelty of caging animals in cramped conditions'... I decided I needed an escape to my favourite retreat here in Canberra, Australia. I took my camera with me... and this video features a selection of scenes that I photographed.
How nice it was for me to escape the madness of this world if only for the one day... what a shame it is however, that children and animals in many parts of the world are not afforded the same freedoms that I myself take for granted !

Wave Rock is a natural rock formation that is shaped like a tall breaking ocean wave. The wave is about 14 m (46 ft) high and around 110 m (360 ft) long. It forms the north side of a solitary hill, which is known as Hyden Rock. This hill, which is a granite inselberg, lies about 3 km (2 mi) east of the small town of Hyden and 296 km (184 mi) east-southeast of Perth, Western Australia. Wave Rock and Hyden Rock are part of a 160 ha (395-acre) nature reserve, Hyden Wildlife Park.
Wave Rock has cultural significance to Aborigines. More than 140,000 tourists visit Wave Rock every year

Gordon Falls Lookout and Elysian Rock are just a few minutes walk from the Gordon Falls Reserve parking area. A short but very attractive walk with only one difficult part for some (the ladder) on the Falls walk. The waterfall is on the left, well below the lookout. Be sure not to miss it when admiring the view of the Jamison Valley.
