A Brief Summary of the Salem Witch Trials.
SALEM witch trials - WikiVidi Documentary
The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. More than 200 people were accused, nineteen of whom were found guilty and executed by hanging . One other man was pressed to death for refusing to plead, and at least five people died in jail. It was the deadliest witch hunt in the history of the United States. Twelve other women had previously been executed in Massachusetts and Connecticut during the 17th century. Despite being generally known as the Salem Witch Trials, the preliminary hearings in 1692 were conducted in several towns: Salem Village , Salem Town, Ipswich, and Andover. The most infamous trials were conducted by the Court of Oyer and Terminer in 1692 in Salem Town. The episode is one of Colonial America's most notorious cases of mass hysteria. It has been used in political rhetoric and popular literature as a vivid cautionary tale about the dangers of isolatio...

Witchcraft: Crash Course European History #10
During our last several episodes, Europe and the European-controlled world have been in crisis. Wars, disease, climate changes, and shifts in religious and political power threw the European world into turmoil. People were looking for a scapegoat, and for many it was a time of magical thinking. So, maybe witches were responsible for all the problems? It was a popular idea, but, alas, the witches weren't responsible.

Basque Witch Trials
The Basque Witch Trials changed the entire view the Church had on Witchcraft itself. From that moment on things progressively got even worse and it led to the biggest and most violent Witch Hunts and massacres in the History of Witch Trials both in Europe and The New World.

5 REAL Stories of Witches that are Totally Witch’n! [Salem Witch Trials] #Halloween [PART 2/2]
In our last episode we showed that there was more evidence of the #Salem #Witch Trials being connected to a deep state operation and having more truth than any of us previously realized.
This halloween Not only did we discover connections to the occult, but it seems the mass hysteria triggered by these events was also organized by one of the deep state families to achieve multiple objectives.
So grab the popcorn, light some candles, and lock the door.
Because in this episode we’re going to share 5 stories of real witches and magicians that show us how this #history is far different and much scarier than anything Sabrina the Teenage Witch could ever conjure up.
We will go over all of this and more on today's episode of Edge of Wonder.

St. Ephraim the Syrian: Regard not spells and divinations, for that is communion with Satan.
St. Cyril of Jerusalem: Also give heed neither to observations of the stars nor auguries, nor omens, nor to the fabulous divinations of the Greeks. Witchcraft, and enchantment, and the wicked practices of necromancy, admit not even to a hearing.
St. Cyril of Jerusalem: The watching of birds, divination, omens, or amulets, or charms written on leaves, sorceries, or other evil arts, and all such things, are services of the devil; therefore shun them.
Canon 36 of the Council of Laodicea states: That members of the Sacerdocy and Clerics must not be magicians or enchanters, or mathematicians (i.e., numerologists), or astrologers, or make what are called amulets, which are shackles for their souls; accordingly, we have bidden those wearing these things to be thrown out of the Church.
St. Basil's canon 65 states: As for anyone practicing incantation or sorcery, he shall be allotted the time of a murderer, it being proportioned to him in such a manner as though he had convicted himself of each sin for a year.
St. Basil's canon 72 states: Anyone who places himself in the hands of fortune-tellers or any other such persons professing to foresee future events or to discover the whereabouts of lost property, of persons in hiding, etc., he shall be sentenced to the same penalty as is prescribed for murderers and shall do the same length of time and the same penances.
Canon 24 of the council of Ancyra states: As for those who are practicing divination and continuing the customs of the heathen, and who are introducing persons into their homes with a view to discovering sorceries, or even with a view to purification, let them fall under the Canon of five years in accordance with the fixed degrees; three years of kneeling, and two years of prayer, without oblation.
Canon 92 of the Regional Council of Carthage states: It has pleased the Council to decree that a request be presented to the most glorious Emperors in order to have the remains of idolatry, not only as regards those embodied in images of idols, but also those in any kind of places, whether groves or trees, by all means wiped out.
Canon 6 Against Origen: If anyone says that the sky, and the sun, and the moon and the stars, and the waters above the heavens are certain living and material powers, let him be anathema.
Council of Elvira, A.D. 305: It has been decreed that those who in adult age after receiving Baptism shall go into the pagan temples to worship idols, which is a deadly crime and the height of wickedness, shall not be admitted to Communion even at death.
St. Gregory of Nyssa's canon 3 discusses those who go to sorcerers or soothsayers.
St. John the Faster's canon 32 deals with people professing enchantery or sorcery.
Canon 61 of the Council of Trullo deals with people who consult soothsayers, fortune tellers, enchanters and amuletics.

Witchcraft and the Great Witch-Hunt, 1484-1700
We trace the roots of the idea of witchcraft in the cunning folk of the Middle Ages. We consider how the church and state began to fuel fear of witchcraft and persecute witches in the tens of thousands during the age of the Renaissance and the Reformation. We consider theories of why witch-hunting arose so dramatically in this age, including economic strain and political agendas. Finally, we examine evidence for an enduring shamanic belief system centering on ecstatic night journeys that may have provided the inspiration for the mythical witches' sabbath.

10 REAL Witches From History
For centuries it was common for people to believe in witches. Regular hunts and trials for them were organised across Europe and North America. Most were just ordinary people unjustly accused. But according to legend, a number of them were real witches caught up in the frenzy.
One of the most famous was Alice Kyteler, the first people in Ireland accused of witchcraft. Even bishops accused her of being evil, but she disappeared before anything could be done about it. Her story is just one of ten we look at in this video - we even look at one mentioned in the bible.

11 Creepiest Historical Places
From the most haunted place in India, to the brutal history of this New Orleans mansion, these are 11 CREEPIEST Historical Places !
HEY YOU ! There are more awesome videos being made every week, like and subscribe to World Unearthed so you don't miss a beat !
11.Place de la Concorde
Location - France
10.Whitby Abbey
Location - England
9.Jonathan Corwin House
Location - Massachusetts
Located in the heart of the Salem Witch Trials, this is the last remaining structure with any ties to those dark dark times.
Jonathan Corwin was one of the few selected as a judge during the trials. Due to scarcity of official records from the time, Corwin’s involvement can only be tied to signing a few arrest warrants for possible witches.
When you walk into the house, you immediately feel the eerie history of the place. It's most likely just your imagination, but it's rare to feel connected to something that happened 100s of years ago.
8.Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum
Location - West Virginia
This place has been featured on almost every ghost hunting TV show, so its safe to say there MIGHT be something paranormal happening at the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.
7.Frankenstein Castle
Location - Germany
Quick what's the name of the monster in the novel Frankenstein?
This beautiful hilltop castle in Germany is believed to be the inspiration behind Mary Shelley’s famous novel, Frankenstein.
This castle, has an abnormal amount of mystery and legends tied to it. It might be the deep dark forests surrounding it, or the actual tale of a real life mad scientists.
Johann Conrad Dippel was born in frankenstein castle, at some point he became a renowned alchemist and claimed to have created the “elixir of life”. He called it dippel oil, and tried to exchange the magical formula for the deed of the Castle.
There are also claims that he was really into anatomy and may have performed autopsies and strange experiments on the dead. Sound familiar?
This might be a classic, which came first the chicken or the egg scenario, since none of the legends surrounding the castle have been substantiated. The only evidence linking the author Mary Shelley to the castle is the fact she spent a few hours in a town that was 10 miles away.
Oh there’s also some kind of a fountain of youth hidden in the backyard of the castle. Pretty cool.
6.Lalaurie Mansion – 1140 Royal St
Location - Louisiana
To understand why this place is so insanely creepy we have to travel back in time a bit. How does 1834 sound?
5.Poveglia Island
Location - Italy
In 1776, the island acted as a check in for ships traveling to Venice, several ships were reported to carry the black plague, and the island turned into a confinement slash quarantine zone. At that point, the bodies just started piling up, with no one bothering to give them a proper burial. This continued on until 1814.
4.Gettysburg
Location - Pennsylvania
3.The Highway of Tears
Location - Canada
There have been some requests for locations in Canada, so consider this the starting point, next week there will be a whole video on Abandoned Places in Canada !
The Highway of tears is a 450 mi (720km) stretch of Highway 16 between Prince Rupert and Prince George in British Columbia Canada. The region has suffered historically, the towns in the area are very poor, and a lot of people have to hitchhike to get from place to place.
2.The Outback
Location - Australia
There is just something about the Australian Outback that gives many people the heebie jeebies. I’d love to hear what Australians think about the situation, is it just scare tactics? Or is there parts of the outback that even the most rugged local is scared of?
1.Bhangarh Fort
Location - India
At number one, we have the “most haunted place in India”. The 17th century fort built by Man Singh, who was part of the Navaratnas, or the “nine gems of the royal court”.
Legend states, that the beautiful Princess of Bhangarh was targeted by a black magic wizard. He tried giving her a love potion, but she saw through his lies and destroyed the potion by throwing it against a boulder. The boulder started rolling and crushed the wizard. At that point the wizard cursed the fort and condemned every soul that occupied it.
The Fort was later invaded by the Mughals, and the 10,000 people that lived there were all brutally murdered. It is believed that the Fort is now haunted by the wizard and the princess, and it is forbidden for anyone to spend the night there. Seriously, there’s even a sign !
It is said that anyone who dares to visit the fort at night will be visited by the livid princess and the scorned wizard…
Democratic Rep. Gerald Connolly Asks IRS Official If She Is a Witch or Has Consorted with the Devil
10/9/13 - Representative Gerald Connolly (D-VA) parodied the witch hunt-like nature of House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa's ongoing, mutlipronged investigation into the Internal Revenue Service, asking IRS official Sarah Hall Ingram if she were a witch or had consorted with the devil. Ingram is the Affordable Care Act Office Director. The House Oversight Committee is investigating whether Ingram shared tax data with the White House, outside her narrow legal parameters, to assist with legal challenges against Obamacare. She denies the charge.
Let's get things out of the way, Connolly said at the start of his congressional questioning. Have you ever read The Crucible by Arthur Miller? What is it about?
Well, I'm from New England, so I'm familiar with the original story, Ingram said. The Salem witch trials.
You're under oath; have you been consorting with the devil? Connolly asked, drawing laughter. Connolly also asked if Ingram could fly, or had been trying to corrupt the youth of Salem; she pled not guilty.
He then turned to her record under the George W Bush administration: You received an award in the Bush administration for excellence in public service, the highest award for anyone in the IRS, is that correct? Did the devil have anything to do with that award?
I was not part of either the nomination process or the awarding, Ingram said. (Not a no!)
We now know that Bush administration manufactured evidence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion in Iraq, Connolly said. Were you involved in that? Because you received an award from President Bush, so there is a connection.
No, sir, Ingram replied.
All right, Connolly said. If that's your testimony...

Mysterious Delusions of Satan: Witchcraft at Salem (Prof. Walter F. Rowe)
In keeping with the approach of Halloween, Professor Rowe's talk will examine the best known outbreak of witchcraft in the United States. He will discuss the events in Massachusetts in 1692-1693 that resulted in nineteen executions and one pressing to death. He will also critically evaluate the various attempts to provide naturalistic explanations for this witchcraft outbreak (lying, ergotism, epidemica lethargica, village factionalism, 'uppity women,' and the stresses of protracted warfare). Professor Rowe will also present the impact of the Salem Witchcraft Trials on popular culture.
Professor Walter F. Rowe is a Professor of Forensic Sciences at The George Washington University, where he has been a member of the faculty of the Department of Forensic Sciences for more than 30 years. Professor Rowe has a B.S. in chemistry from Emory University and a Master's and Ph.D. in chemistry from Harvard University.
He served two years in the U.S. Army crime laboratory system as a forensic drug chemist and a forensic serologist. During his military service Rowe was also a credentialed criminal investigator and participated in processing crime scenes (including the scene of the Fort Bragg murders, for which Dr. Jeffrey McDonald is now serving multiple life prison terms).
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and a former member of the editorial board of the Journal of Forensic Sciences. Professor Rowe is also a member of ASTM Committee E30, which sets standards (including educational standards) for a variety of forensic science disciplines. He is also a member of the American Society of Trace Evidence Examiners. Professor Rowe is a member of the Council of Forensic Educators and is a past president of that organization.
He has been a consultant forensic scientist to law enforcement agencies, prosecutor's offices and defense attorneys; Professor Rowe has worked closely with Barry Scheck and Peter Neufeld of the Innocence Project.
He has contributed chapters to monographs and textbooks in forensic science, including one of the two main textbooks used for undergraduate instruction in the field of forensic science.
