Adding yet another small gem to our collection of the places to visit on a weekend in San Francisco Bay area. It’s going to be a place of relaxation created with ancient art of landscaping in mind.
Japanese Garden is in the middle of the city of San Mateo, in its Central Park. It was designed by Nagao Sakurai, the landscape architect of the Imperial Palace of Tokyo.
The place was built in the nineteen sixties but the curious thing about gardens is that the older they are the more spectacular they became. It's a great place to relax and take pictures of flowers, trees and garden sculptures, watch bright-colored fish.

The Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco, California, is a popular feature of Golden Gate Park, originally built as part of a sprawling World's Fair, the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894. Though many of its attractions are still a part of the garden today, there have been changes throughout the history of the garden that have shaped it into what it is today.
The oldest public Japanese garden in the United States, this complex of many paths, ponds and a teahouse features plants and trees pruned and arranged in a Japanese style. The garden's 3 acres contain sculptures and structures influenced by Buddhist and Shinto religious beliefs, as well as many elements of water and rocks to create a calming landscape designed to slow people down.

The flower turns vermillion as the rain comes and goes
The willow finds it's lushness as the strong wind blows... A bright future will always follow the suffering days. The more one overcomes life's difficulties... the more your spiritual charter grows ~This is the spirit of Zen.... In a certain sense... Zen is feeling life instead of feeling something about life.

San Mateo Park, California by Drone - Presented by Ed Stephens
One of this country’s best kept secrets, San Mateo Park, is one of the most beautiful and unique residential communities within The United states. While known within its’ immediate vicinity, San Mateo park remains virtually unknown to the outside world, a secluded enclave, vigilant against the encroachment of progress and change.
San Mateo Park is located on the San Francisco Peninsula, 20 miles south of San Francisco, adjacent to the towns of Hillsborough and Burlingame, and within a short commute to Silicon Valley, and Biotech companies.
San Mateo Park was originally a part of the Mexican Land Grant, Rancho San Mateo. In the late 19th century, San Mateo Park was a dairy land cattle ranch owned by the Clark family, remembered by spectacular gateway to San Mateo Park, Clark Drive.
San Mateo Park was founded in 1896, when the City Beautiful movement was at its’ peak. Noted architect George Howard Jr. teamed with Landscape architect, John McLaren, the designer of Golden Park, E. W. McClellan, the founder of McClellan’s nursery, and City Planner Davenport Bromfield, the Planner for such communities as Carmel California, to create a residential community that would stand out as one of the foremost tributes to residential design excellence.
Together, this stellar team laid out the narrow, gently winding streets with every intersection meeting at a landscaped circle, crescent, or square, with most streets also having wide landscaped medians Thousands and thousands of trees, selected by McLaren and Mclellan, and many transplanted from the San Francisco World Fair, were planted on the formerly barren landscaped. Noted architects, Bernard Maybeck, Willis Polk, and Julia Morgan designed magnificent country homes, many in the arts and crafts style, most now restored to their former glory. 120 years later, The Park, as San Mateo Park is called by its’ residents and admirers has achieved and faithfully secured the vision of its’ illustrious founders and architects. The now tree canopied roads that meander through the gently rolling foothills, and the now lush circles, crescents and squares are sheltered beneath towering Palms, Pines, oaks, and among many other trees from around the world.
Once within San Mateo Park, the bustling outside world is non-existent, as one is enveloped in a bucolic, private environment of un-president Beauty and charm.
