New York: Columbus Circle
Columbus Circle is a traffic circle and heavily trafficked intersection in Manhattan, located at the intersection of Eighth Avenue, Broadway, Central Park South (West 59th Street), and Central Park West, at the southwest corner of Central Park. The circle is the point from which official highway distances from New York City are measured.
The circle is named after the monument of Christopher Columbus in the center. The name is also used for the neighborhood a few blocks around the circle in each direction. To the south of the circle lies Hell's Kitchen, also known as Clinton, and the Theater District, and to the north is the Upper West Side.
The 76-foot (23 m) Columbus Column monument at the center of the circle, created by Italian sculptor Gaetano Russo, consists of a 14-foot (4.3 m) marble statue of Columbus atop a 27.5-foot (8.4 m) granite rostral column on a four-stepped granite pedestal. The column is decorated with bronze reliefs representing Columbus' ships: the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María, although actually they are Roman galleys instead of caravels. Its pedestal features an angel holding a globe.
The monument was one of three planned as part of the city's 1892 commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus' landing in the Americas.
Russo created parts of the Columbus Column in his Rome studio and in other workshops in Italy. The completed column was shipped to the United States in September 1892.
Amid the 2017 monument controversies in the United States, an issue arose over the statue due to criticism of Columbus's alleged mistreatment of the native people on Hispaniola.
On September 20, 2018, in a unanimous decision, the New York State Board of Historic Preservation quietly voted to place the monument on the state and federal historical registers due to its significance.

Columbus Circle in New York City
Columbus Circle, named for Christopher Columbus, is a major landmark and point of attraction in the New York City borough of Manhattan, located at the intersection of Eighth Avenue, Broadway, Central Park South (West 59th Street), and Central Park West, at the southwest corner of Central Park. It is the point from which all official distances from New York City are measured. The name is also used for the neighborhood a few blocks around the circle in each direction. To the south of the circle lies Hell's Kitchen, also known as Clinton, and the Theater District, and to the north is the Upper West Side.
Completed in 1905 and renovated a century later, the circle was designed by William P. Eno -- a businessman who pioneered many early innovations in road safety and traffic control -- as part of Frederick Law Olmsted's vision for Central Park, which included a Grand Circle at the Merchants' Gate, its most important Eighth Avenue entrance.
The monument at the center of Columbus Circle, created by Italian sculptor Gaetano Russo,[1] was erected as part of New York's 1892 commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus' landing in the Americas. Constructed with funds raised by Il Progresso, a New York City-based Italian-language newspaper, the monument consists of a marble statue of Columbus atop a 70-foot (21 m) granite rostral column decorated with bronze reliefs representing Columbus' ships: the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María. Its pedestal features an angel holding a globe.
Renovations to the circle completed in 2005 included new water fountains by WET, of Fountains of Bellagio fame; wooden benches; and plantings encircling the monument. The inner circle measures approximately 36,000 square feet (3,300 m2), and the outer circle is approximately 148,000 square feet (13,700 m2). The redesign, by the Olin Partnership of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was the recipient of the 2006 American Society of Landscape Architects' General Design Award Of Honor.
Exploring Columbus Circle - A Video Tour Of One Of New York's Landmarks
Video of a walkabout I did around Columbus Circle on 10-24-18. Coincidentally, this video was shot just minutes before the area was evacuated because of a bomb threat at CNN, which is headquartered in Time Warner Center (seen prominently in the pictures here). This video also includes the famous (and increasingly controversial) Columbus statue column, and Trump International Hotel and Tower.
NYC Grand Central in Manhattan New York 4K - Walking around the Terminal at the Evening Rush Hour
At the evening rush hour, walking around Grand Central Terminal. Grand Central Terminal is a commuter rail terminal located at 42nd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Grand Central is the southern terminus of the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem, Hudson and New Haven Lines, serving the northern parts of the New York metropolitan area.
Grand Central Terminal opened to the public in February 1913 is one of the country’s great architectural achievements and New York City’s unofficial meeting place with thousands of people choosing to meet friends and loved ones each day at the opal-faced Main Concourse Information Booth Clock.
In 1978, architect Philip Johnson and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis campaigned to secure landmark status for the Terminal, ensuring the building would serve New Yorkers for generations to come.

New York City-Off The Beaten Path (with Facts/Figures)
I took a bite out of The Big Apple by visiting places in New York City that many tourists may not be aware of but should be. Of course, I did start out in Times Square (which once had 132 brothels in the area!) which is high on any tourist's list but after that, I saw many lesser known attractions which I thought were pretty cool, like the Metropolitan Life Insurance Tower building, the David N. Dinkins Municipal building, historic Trinity Church (where George Washington prayed), the Flatiron building, the High Line, Columbus Circle, Lincoln Center, Plaza Hotel (where the Beatles stayed and Kevin McCallister stayed in Home Alone 2), FAO Schwartz toy store (which is no longer open), Fifth Avenue shops for the rich and famous, Trump Tower, Carnegie Hall, the One57 building, St. Bart's Church, the Waldorf Astoria hotel, the 8 Spruce St. building, and the United Nations. I hope you enjoy the tour!

Midtown Manhattan is the central portion of the borough of Manhattan in New York City. Midtown is home to some of the city's most iconic buildings, including the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project, the headquarters of the United Nations, Grand Central Terminal, and Rockefeller Center, as well as Broadway and Times Square.
Midtown Manhattan is the largest central business district in the world and ranks among the most expensive pieces of real estate; Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan commands the world's highest retail rents, with average annual rents at US$3,000 per square foot ($32,000/m2) in 2017. However, due to the high price of retail spaces in Midtown, there are also many vacant storefronts in the neighborhood. Midtown is the country's largest commercial, entertainment, and media center, and also a growing financial center.
The majority of New York City's skyscrapers, including its tallest hotels and apartment towers, are in Midtown. The area hosts commuters and residents working in its offices, hotels, and retail establishments, tourists and students. Times Square, the brightly illuminated hub of the Broadway Theater District, is a major center of the world's entertainment industry. Sixth Avenue also has the headquarters of three of the four major U.S. television networks.
Midtown is part of Manhattan Community District 5. It is patrolled by the 14th and 18th Precincts of the New York City Police Department.

New York' Central Park Tower: US' Future Tallest Skyscraper&World's Tallest Residential Building
New York's Central Park Tower: USA' Future Tallest Skyscraper&World's Tallest Residential Building
The tower is located on West 57th Street, New York City’s most prestigious corridor, with Central Park directly to the north and the dynamic hub of Columbus Circle to the west. Extell pioneered what is now known as Billionaire’s Row with One57, the first supertall tower on 57th Street. Located above the Park Hyatt‘s five-star flagship hotel, the record- breaking glass tower overlooking Central Park is home to the most expensive residence ever sold in New York City at $100.5 million. At the base of the building will be the new 320,000-square-foot, seven-story Nordstrom NYC Flagship store that represents the company’s biggest and best statement of the brand
Central Park Tower was designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG), a firm dedicated to the design of high-performance, energy-efficient, striking architecture on an international scale. AS+GG has collaborated with clients across the globe to design nine of the world’s tallest and highest-performing buildings. Currently, AS+GG is responsible for the design of the next world’s tallest building, Jeddah Tower now under construction in Saudi Arabia, as well Wuhan Greenland Center and Greenland Tower Chengdu, both currently under construction in China.
The building’s façade distinguishes itself from its surroundings by combining elements of glass, satin-finished stainless steel, and light-catching vertical and horizontal details that accentuate the interplay of texture and light. At a height of 300 feet from the street, the tower cantilevers to the east, creating Central Park views for all north-facing residences.
The interiors of these grand residences are designed by Rottet Studio, whose credits include The Surrey Hotel in Manhattan, The St. Regis in Aspen, The Beverly Hills Hotel Presidential Bungalows and The River Oaks in Houston.
Starting on the 32nd floor, the 179 ultra-luxury two-to-eight-bedroom residences range in size from 1,435 square feet to over 17,500 square feet.
Located within the tallest residential tower ever built will be one of the world’s most exclusive private clubs, Central Park Club. The Club will offer approximately 50,000 square feet of thoroughly curated luxury amenities spread across three floors, each location providing a unique experience complemented by five-star service.
The first club level, located on the 14th floor, will feature a residents’ lounge with billiards, screening and function rooms. The centerpiece of this floor will be a 15,000-square-foot outdoor terrace with a spectacular 60-foot swimming pool, cabanas, bar, screening wall, food and beverage service, and an outdoor children’s playground. The health and wellness center on the 16th floor will include a 63-foot indoor swimming pool, state-of-the art fitness center, basketball court, regulation squash court, sauna, steam and treatment rooms. The Club will culminate on the 100th floor at an elevation of over 1,000 feet. The plans for this remarkable space are yet to be revealed.
