The Sool Gallery in Seoul (01-2018, Korea #16)
Are You interested in Korean alcohol? In Seoul is Gallery, where You can taste for free many types of Korean traditional liqueres like: Makgeolli, Soju and more. Every month they have different selection. Every day there is 1 hour tour with english giude. You can come just to enjoy liqueres or You can also buy some bottles home.
It was a great experience for me and thanks to this I was able to taste liquers, which I would hardly found somwhere else. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity and to everyone else I can recommend to visit Sool Gallery as well!

The Sool Gallery | Traditional Korean Alcohol Tasting and Tour
Every month, The Sool Gallery (전통주 갤러리) offers a tasting selection of five different liquors that are based on one central theme . I had actually met our guide, Sean, at a different event, so it just felt like a group of friends chatting and learning about alcohol.

[020818] Korean Sool | Traditional Korean Liquor Exhibit
A special exhibition for Korean traditional drinks “Korean Sool” will open to the public starting February 8, 2018 at Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines (KCC) exhibit hall to present the rich history and diversity of authentic Korean traditional liquor. This exhibition will feature the history of Korean liquor – its ingredients, brewing process, variety of traditional drinks, Korean drinking etiquettes, and Korean drink table setting.
Jisung Chun, Korean rice liquor sommelier and founder of Soy and Rice, curated the ‘Korean Sool” exhibition. Through this exhibit, Chun aims to share the Korean food and drinking culture and introduce Korean rice liquor beyond the popular green-bottled soju and makgeolli.
“There are more than 2,000 kinds of Korean traditional drinks in Korea. Each drink has its unique story and flavor. Through the “Korean Sool” exhibition, I hope to spread the charm of Korean drinks and start the ‘Korean sool wave’ in the Philippines,” says Jisung Chun organizer of the exhibition.
Korean drinking culture has a long history. It has its own historical documents on drinking etiquettes and rules, and variety of drinks that matches the rich culture of Korea. The opening ceremony of the exhibition will host Korean snack (hangwa) making workshop, Korean traditional drink tasting session, makgeolli making workshop and other programs to provide best experience of the culture.
“Filipinos are showing great interest in Korean drinking culture. This “Korean Sool” exhibition is a great chance to learn about authentic Korean traditional drinks, and build more understanding on Korean food and drinking culture,” says LEE Jincheol, Director of KCC.

I have visited Kooksoondang, which is one of the biggest and oldest Korean Traditional Liquor company. It is founded in 1952 and Kooksoondang translated to mean house of good yeast and good wines.
Bekseju and Dae-bak Makgeolli are one of the successful items of the company. Their Brewery is placed at Heongseng, Gangwondo which has clean water and air! You can apply for Brewery Tour and taste drinks for FREE !!!

Soju That Tastes Like Whisky: Traditional Korean Drinks Part 1
Ever wondered what old-school soju tasted like? We did too and it tastes like a Korean whisky. Much higher alcohol content than modern soju, this traditional Korean drink is quite special. It was so good we wonder why it's not found in stores or promoted more often. Though expensive, this special alcohol is certainly a treat. We also go through the process of making traditional Korean drinks including yakju and makgeolli. Enjoy this exploratory episode about Korean tradition!
