2020 State of the State Address – Missouri Governor Mike Parson

Listen in as I give my 2020 State of the State address to the Missouri General Assembly.
 
My call to legislators this session is to propose initiatives aimed at building stronger communities, improving education and workforce development, revitalizing our infrastructure, and making government more accountable.

Senate Bills Signed Into Law - July-August 2010 Missouri Legislative Update

After the regular legislative session ended, we told you about several Senate bills that had been sent to the governor for his signature. Many of those bills, including a measure expanding informed consent requirements for abortion and legislation further regulating adult businesses in our state, have already been approved by the governor. Here's a list of other Senate bills that will be enacted into law.
July 14th was the constitutional deadline for the governor to sign legislation passed by the General Assembly this year. More than 30 Senate bills will or have already become law.
During a bill signing ceremony in July, the governor signed several of those measures.
Senate Bill 984, sponsored by Sen. Jim Lembke of St. Louis, allows gaming licensees to exchange tokens, chips, or other forms of gambling credits for payment of food or beverages on excursion gambling boats.
Senator David Pearce of Warrensburg sponsored Senate Bill 940. The measure relaxes bingo regulations in Missouri, including expanding the hours during which bingo halls can operate, increasing the number of games they are able to hold, and raising the cap on the amount of money they are allowed to spend on advertising.
Senate Bill 851, sponsored by Sen. Eric Schmitt of Glendale, requires at least four days notice before public meetings where local governing bodies may vote on tax increases, eminent domain, and certain districts and projects.
In response to the governor signing her legislation she sponsored in the Senate, Sen. Rita Heard Days of St. Louis says a very worthy and notable organization will now get the attention it deserves through Senate Bill 649.
The measure requires the governor to issue an annual proclamation designation March 12th as Girl Scout Day.

MO Guard TV Season 3, Episode 8

The Missouri National Guard has released its eighth episode for Season 3 of MO Guard TV, a half-hour television program showcasing the efforts of Citizen-Soldiers, Airmen and family members throughout the Show-Me State.

In this episode, we travel to Fort Sill, OK to witness the 1-129th Field Artillery put their skill set to use. We watch soldiers and airmen go through Air Assault school. We catch up with the Homeland Response Force as they conduct their quarterly training, and we meet the daughter of a MO Guardsmen after she gets a big surprise at her high school graduation.

The program, which has a news magazine flair, was developed by Maj. Gen. Steve Danner, the Missouri National Guard Adjutant General. His goal for the program is to give the public deeper insight into the National Guard's role at home and abroad.

Sounds of Katydids and Crickets ~ Sounds at Night ~ Part 2 ~ Night time Meditation ~ ASMR

Last summer I posted a short video explaining the sounds that the Katydids make. I have had many people ask me to do a longer video with just the insect sounds. So here it is. This is a great video to sit back close your eyes, relax and meditate. The sounds of nature are truly magical.

I love the sounds of Katydids on a warm summer night! I find their song very peaceful and it helps me sleep. It sounds like they are singing Katydid Katydidn't. I have never seen a Katydid at night.. they always seem to be up high in the Trees in my area. You can also hear lots of Crickets chirping.

This video is recorded in total darkness. I hope you enjoy the sounds of the Katydids and the Crickets as much as I do! I find it very meditative.

African American Experience in Missouri Lecture Series - Sowande Mustakeem

The eighth African-American Experience Lecture Drenched with Blood, Presenting a Frightful Appearance: Race, Rage, and State Power in Missouri's Historic Past, was presented by Dr. Sowande Mustakeem on March 14, 2017.

Dr. Sowande Mustakeem is jointly appointed in the departments of history and African-American Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. She received her bachelor's degree in African Studies from Elon College in North Carolina. She completed her master's degree in African and African-American Studies at Ohio State University and she earned her Ph.D. in comparative black history at Michigan State University. Her research includes middle passage studies, Atlantic world slavery, black women's history, gender, violence, history, criminality and policing, the social history of medicine and studies of the black Atlantic and African diaspora. She has published several scholarly articles and book chapters and has received a host of national fellowships for her earlier research, which traces the gendered history of slavery and the slave trade. This work is publicly available in her 2016 book, Slavery at Sea: Terror, Sex, and Sickness in the Middle Passage, which was published with the University of Illinois Press.

The African American Lecture series explores the history of black Americans in Missouri from the earliest period of statehood to the present.

This lecture series offers the Mizzou and Columbia community opportunities to gain a new understanding of present-day Missouri by learning about the history of African Americans within the state. This series is a collaboration between the Division of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity, and the State Historical Society of Missouri's Center for Missouri Studies.

Former Missouri Governor Bob Holden, moderator of the panel discussion How Missouri Engages the World, spoke about the importance of international education to help prepare students to live and work in a global society as part of the International Education Summit held on January 9.

PANEL DISCUSSION: Eat Here! Food Deserts in the 21st Century

How is the food on our table defined by the neighborhoods in which we live? Recent research indicates 23.5 million Americans live in a food desert-- impeded financially or physically from obtaining food. Many are overwhelmed by the 5-to-1 ratio of fast-food to grocery stores. With factors such as cost and convenience as primary motivators in Americans' diets, what will the grocery store of the future look like? How are mobile food markets or virtual grocery stores changing the grocery store landscape? With an exhibition overview by Stocked curator and Eat Here! moderator Emily Stamey, regional stakeholders discuss the status quo while providing insightful plans for the future of the grocery store and what Americans eat.

Eat Here! is moderated by Stocked: Contemporary Art from the Grocery Aisles curator Dr. Emily Stamey. Stamey is associate curator of art at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in art history from the University of Kansas.

Dr. Deborah Ballard-Reisch is the WSU Kansas Health Foundation Distinguished Chair in Strategic Communication and Elliot School of Communication professor and founder of the WSU Hunger Awareness Initiative.

Eugene Brown III is the mobile market manager for Beans & Greens, a non-profit organization in Kansas City, and a member of the Front Porch Alliance to co-lead a farm business development project with area high school students.

Dr. David E. Procter is director of the Center for Engagement and Community Development at Kansas State University and briefed the U.S. Senate Hunger Caucus on the loss of grocery stores in rural communities and its devastating impact on communities.
