The story behind Robert Mondavi inventing the terms Fumé-Blanc...
Video Content (Transcription):
What is up guys ? This is Julien, the French winemaking guy who makes wine videos here on YouTube. Yes, wine videos… And this is Episode two of my video series ‘What The Fruit is…’
We are looking at why Sauvignon Blanc, the grape variety and the wine, is often called Fumé Blanc in the United States. There a few great articles available online on the topic including one by Decanter.com that I used for this video that I recommend reading, link in the video description…
If you’ve missed Episode 1 of the What the Fruit series, it was about minerality which you’ll also find sometimes in Fumé-Blanc, so if you want to know more about what the term means, stick around the channel after today’s story, ad consider subscribing to follow along the journey.
So this is, in short, what the fruit is Fumé Blanc…
Essentially, Sauvignon Blanc has been grown in the US since the end of the 1800s, but all along the first half of the 19th Century, the grape was used to make cheap and boring sweet white wines to quench the Americans’ thirst for sweet wines, which if you remember, used to be most of what the majority of Americans would drink as far as wine was concerned at the time.
Now, in the 1960s, the late Robert Mondavi recognized the potential of the grape, and wanted to differentiate his new style of ‘quality’ Sauvignon Blanc dry white from the bulky image Sauv Blanc had back then.
So, he took the word ‘Fumé’ which in French means ‘smoky’ or smoked, and which is also part of the name of a famous Sauvignon Blanc French wine called Pouilly-Fumé, named after a village called Pouilly on the Loire river of France, next to Sancerre. Et Voilà!
Mr Mondavi had created a new staple name in the world of American wine. Fumé-Blanc.
Now Mondavi did not register the name. So anyone could use it. And since the style had become very popular, well, many wineries started making Fumé-Blanc. To the point that now Fumé-Blanc is generally associated with an oaky style of Sauvignon Blanc wine, oaky and, yes, generally smoky.
Even though, technically, a Fumé-Blanc wine doesn’t have to be oaked to called so. It’s just a synonym of Sauvignon Blanc, but practically it is more often than not an oaky American style of Sauvignon Blanc.
Now, so we share the knowledge here as well and it’s not just me sharing with the wine community, two questions for you: 1) do you know of any Fumé-blanc that wouldn’t be oaky 2) What is you favorite Fumé-Blanc wine, one really worth tasting. Thanks for that…
Here you’ve got, if you’d been wondering What the Fruit is Fumé Blanc and Why, know you know…

Fire Starting Dog of California Fires. Pyrokinesis Dog From Hell. Cerberus Went From Villain To Hero
This is Fall Apocalypse Part 2. In Part 1 we were talking about whether magma coming to surface or pieces of asteroid or Nibiru caused the worst natural disaster in California and Oregon history in Fall 2017 that Kryan channel predicted months in advance at the link above. Now many of you are waiting revelations of United States Military Intelligence and our chronosphere future predictions promised in Part 1. And you shall get them in Part 3 next week. This part despite ominous name is a heart warming true story about fire starting arsonist dog named Cerberus set in the middle of California Fire Armageddon engulfing two states in October 2017. But thanks to the effort of that brave and strange dog the death toll of never made past 50. The dog name is Cerberus. And that name is no accident. It was bestowed on him because he does not afraid heat and fire. He was surrendered to the local animal shelter after he took a burning stick from a camp fire and set the entire camp ablaze. That unique quality made him a member of North California Fire Engine Crew. The dog was working with firefighters for several years now. And in Fall 2017 he traveled with his crew mates to combat advancing California October Fire Apocalypse. The battle with inferno was lost and firefighters were surrendering the entire city of 200,000 Santa Rosa to the raging Armageddon on October 12, 2017. When Cerberus suddenly stopped and lead firefighters though the fire and burning bushes to the structure. About half a dozen of members of Santa Rosa retirement community were hiding there oblivious to the advancing wall of flames. Thanks to Cerberus they all are alive and well. Next week - the final true cause of this imaginable disaster directly from United States military intelligence on Kryan channel.
Wawona Hotel Ghost Story, 3/4/11
Perhaps this is the pilot referred to in this story: During the 1920s, a small plane crashed outside the Wawona Hotel, and the badly injured pilot was taken to Moore Cottage, one of the hotel's guest units. Tragically, before the doctor arrived, the pilot died from his injuries. Since then, both employees and guests have seen a ghostly figure dressed as a pilot - complete with leather jacket, head gear with goggles and a white silk scarf.

California Gets Cooked | Fires Created by Microwave Directed Energy Weapon ▶️️
In science fiction, futuristic soldiers are often shown wielding light emitting weapons. Flash Gordon used a ray gun, Captain Kirk carried a phaser, and Darth Vader brandished a light saber. But, today, the imagined future of science fiction is a reality. The United States is deploying a new generation of weapons that discharge light-wave energy, the same spectrum of energy found in your microwave, or in your TV remote control. They're called directed-energy weapons. Lasers, high-powered microwaves, and particle beams. They claim that this technology is new and that first directed energy weapons are being tested right now, but the fact is that advanced technology is always suppressed from the general public. What is Directed Energy? How do direct energy weapons work? What can these direct energy weapons do?

The Untold Truth Of Sodom And Gomorrah
Sodom and Gomorrah and their fiery fate crop up in the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament, in the Torah, and in the Quran. But whatever you've heard about Sodom and Gomorrah, you're probably getting things a bit confused. Here's the truth about Sodom and Gomorrah.
Sodom and Gomorrah are like Batman and Robin, you're so used to hearing them together that one without the other sounds weird. Yet this cozy partnership is a little misleading, because Sodom and Gomorrah were actually part of a larger group of civilization called the Cities of the Plain, a collection of five great cities that sat along the Jordan River in Biblical times.
The three forgotten cities aren't just background details. Although they appear in the story of Lot far less than Sodom or Gomorrah, they have their own names and everything. Deuteronomy identifies two of the other cities as Admah and Zeboim, while Genesis 19:23 identifies the final city as Zoar.
But aren't Sodom and Gomorrah still the ones that get destroyed? Well, that's sort of the issue. The Bible repeatedly makes it clear that Admah and Zeboim went up in the conflagration, thanks to being equally sinful. Zoar's role is even more important. It's the surviving town that Lot flees to as God implements His whole plan of Kill everyone, and let me sort them out.

The Sports Car Of The Year (1955-1956)
The British Motor Corporation Ltd Presents - MG logo
The Sports Car of the Year
Title - Le Mans 1955 - superimposed over farmyard scene as sports car pulls into yard. Four M.G (Morris Garages) sports cars in courtyard. They are being worked on by mechanics. Running start at Le Mans endurance race. Drivers run from the other side of the track and climb into their cars. Crowds look on. Cars speed away, one does not appear to have started. Child watching races. The commentary describes the MG in this race as the EX 182, a prototype of the M.G.A. (MGA). The cars speed round the track. They speed under the Dunlop bridge and speed around the track.
Title - Alpine Rally 1956 - superimposed over narrow alpine road shot from car. MGA takes sharp corner on alpine road. Interior of car showing male driver in cap. Car comes round mountain bend towards car with camera in. MGA takes sharp corner. Shots of back of car as it travels along dusty road. Cars driving through French (?) town. Two men look on as cars go past. Cars on the rally drive through the countryside. (The voice over talks about successes in Liege-Rome-Liege events in 1955 and 1956 - it is not clear whether the film reflects this and if so which year). MGA pulls in towards building. C/U MGA . This brilliant little car was off to a flying start.
M.G. designers at work. They are working on a test engine. Some of those looking on are wearing ear defenders. The engine carries the M.G. logo. C/U exhaust gases coming out of a pipe. An engineer make adjustments as the engine runs. C/U dial. Man looks on and scratches head. C/U engine. This engine is a twin-cam version of the MG 'A' series model. Engineers work on the engine. Man looks at board with several measuring dials on it. More measurements and notes taken.
Very sleek prototype car in garage. Stirling Moss is one of the men taking a look at the car. C/U Stirling Moss removes his jacket and climbs into the driving seat (the car doesn't have ordinary doors, the front pivots to allow access). He pulls the steering wheel into position. C/U Stirling Moss in the driving seat of the prototype. C/U pedal position being measured. Designers look over the car. The front of the car is replaced. Dissolve to same scene in Bonneville Salt Flats in United States of America.
Title superimposed - Utah 1957 - over close up of Stirling Moss in car. C/U Union jack flag painted on the side of the car. They are attempting the World Record Speed for this class of car. The designers push the car along. The car starts off. Shots of the car travelling at speed across the Salt Flats. The car is very streamlined.
The M.G.A. (MG(A)) Twin Cam production model being driven. (It looks much more like a traditional sports car and has a cloth roof).C/U grill of car showing the MG logo. It is being tested on the M.I.R.A. track (Motor Industry Research Association). The car is brought to a sharp stop. C/U driver's hand on the gear stick. Back view of the car. The car drives away. C/U driver's hand as he changes gear (He is wearing leather driving gloves). Shots from the windscreen of the car as it drives round the track. C/U gear change. More driving shots. The car drives up a banked curve. C/U of dashboard and steering wheel. More driving shots. C/U Rev counter and speedo. Car driving along on banked track. C/U dials. Driving shot. C/U driver and dashboard. Driving shots. They keep intercuting shots inside and outside the car.
The car is brought to a sharp halt just in front of an oil drum to demonstrate the powerful four wheel braking system. The driver has jacked the car up and the bonnet is open. The driver removes the wheel cap with a hammer. (Apparently these centre lock disc wheel are how you can tell the twin cam MG(A) from the standard version). He removes the wheel and checks the brakes. He opens the bonnet and checks the engine. C/U engine. C/U logo on the scuttle air exit on the side of the bonnet. The logo reads MGA Twin Cam. M.G.(A) on the test track. MGA out in the countryside. The MGA is described as an aristocrat of sports cars that is second to none in its class. Produced for the Nuffield Organisation by Associated British Pathe Ltd.
Note: Lovely documentary about the MG(A), a very beautiful car. The shots on the test track are particularly nicely shot and cut. The documentation consists of a script. Sadly there is no shotlist in the file to give us more details on the racing footage at the start of the film.
