A bird paradise! Drone footage shows over 60,000 birds in wetland in China's Tianjin
An estimated 60,000 plus migratory birds have recently arrived in a wetland of northern China's port city of Tianjin. Over 30,000 of them are wild geese and ducks while herons account for nearly 10,000. There are also swans and white storks. The birds make the wetland their stopover on the long journey to Australia. The Next Big Thing: China’s floating city

Further evidence of China’s seemingly insatiable appetite for unconventional edifices comes with newly unveiled proposals for the development of a “floating city”, complete with underwater chambers and a self-contained ecosystem, off the country’s coast.
Its genesis stems from a successful partnership between Chinese engineering company CCCC and London-based architects AT Design Office. The groups collaborated on the development of Port City, a 230-hectare reclaimed island off the coast of Colombo in Sri Lanka, and now see the construction of floating, mobile landmasses as their next objective. CCCC has already developed “floating bridges” which it claims can be suspended in water without support, and this nascent technology will provide the foundation for its floating city.
The four-square-mile urban centre will provide housing to residents of China’s overcrowded cities, but it is to serve primarily as a high-end tourist attraction. Tony Fan, design director of AT Design Office explains: “Chinese tourism investors want to create attractions that have never been seen before, and at the moment going under [and on] the sea is very attractive to the market. People in Britain might want to go to the beach to see the sun, there people want to go under the water. The demand looks very real; there’s a need and a dream there and they want to do it.”
Under current plans, the floating city will include plenty to keep future visitors entertained. Vast recreation zones will feature multiple restaurants, bars, museums, galleries and a theme park, and areas both on and below the water’s surface will host stadium-style concerts. Various hotels will stand underwater, with incoming visitors being able to dock at the city’s cruise terminal and yacht marina before being transferred to their final destination by submarine.
Original plans suggested that the city could be sited by Macau, already an exceptionally popular destination with Chinese tourists, but with the floating city expected to be entirely self-sufficient it won’t be necessary to locate it by a larger urban centre. Satellite farms will provide food; hydropower generators will provide energy; and rainwater from roofs and facades will be channelled into a freshwater lake.
Detractors have queried whether such an ambitious project will ever come to pass, but the floating city’s backers are adamant that its construction is only a matter of time. Developers point to the floating houses already in existence in Holland as a humble precursor of what’s to come, and the threat of rising sea levels is providing further impetus for the development of floating habitats. More significantly, perhaps, is the fact that CCCC’s parent company is China Transport, one of the largest investors in China. The company’s financial might is significant and with its support it’s expected that construction of the floating city will start within 10 to 20 years.

Hainan Province countryside, Hainan Island, China, Asia
Hainan is the smallest province of the People's Republic of China (PRC). The name Hainan also refers to Hainan Island, the main island of the province. Hainan is located in the South China Sea, separated from Guangdong's Leizhou Peninsula to the north by the shallow and narrow Qiongzhou Strait. For centuries Hainan Island was part of Guangdong Province, but in 1988 this island became part of the newly created Hainan Province (海南省, Hǎinán Shěng). The province has an area of 33,920 square kilometres (13,100 sq mi) and is China's southernmost province. Although it comprises some two hundred islands scattered among three archipelagos off the southern coast, 32,900 square kilometres (12,700 sq mi) (97%) of its land mass is Hainan Island, from which the province takes its name. The PRC government claims territories of the province extend to the southern Spratly Islands, Paracel Islands, and other disputed marine territory. Hainan Province is the largest Special Economic Zone laid out by Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping in the late 1980s. There are a total of eight major cities and ten counties in Hainan Province. Haikou on the northern coast of Hainan Island is the capital whilst Sanya is a well-known tourist destination on the south coast. The other major cities are Wenchang, Qionghai, Wanning, Wuzhishan, Dongfang and Danzhou. Hainan, separated by the Qiongzhou Strait from the Leizhou Peninsula of Guangdong, is the largest island administered by the People's Republic of China. The area of Hainan Island (32,900 km2 (12,700 sq mi), 97% of the province) is similar to that of Belgium. To the west of Hainan Island is the Gulf of Tonkin. Wuzhi Mountain (1,840 m) is the highest mountain on the island. Hainan Island measures 155 km (96 mi) long and 169 km (105 mi) wide. Most of the rivers in Hainan originate in the central area of the island and flow radially in different directions. The Wanning River in the southern part of the island is the largest river surrounding Hainan. It is 350 km (220 mi) long. The Nandu River in the northern part of the island is 314 km (195 mi) long, and its tributary, the Xinwu River, is 109 km (68 mi) long. The Changhua River in the west is 230 km (140 mi) long, and the Wanquan River in the east is 162 km (101 mi) long. Evaporation during the dry season around the coastal areas greatly reduces the flow of the rivers. There are very few natural lakes in Hainan. There is a well-known artificial reservoir, the Songtao Reservoir, in the central-north area. Compared to most of mainland China, the air quality of Hainan is far higher. Throughout 2012, Hainan had the highest air quality in the country for 351 days. The provincial government's environmental protection campaign has taken action against a number of plants. During 2012, outdated production facilities resulted in their business licenses being revoked, and 175 cases related to illegal sewage discharge were handled. Total sulfur dioxide emissions for the province were 34,000 tons in 2012, a 3 percent year-on-year reduction. In 2011, smog emissions were reduced 6.3 percent to 15,000 tons. Hainan has a tropical moist monsoonal climate. Its annual temperature change is less than 15 °C (27 °F). The coldest months are January and February when the temperatures drop to 16 to 21 °C (61 to 70 °F); the hottest months are July and August, and the temperatures are 25 to 29 °C (77 to 84 °F). Except for the mountainous regions in the central part of the island, the daily average temperature in Hainan is above 10 °C (50 °F), and the integrated temperature during the growing season of the crops reaches eight thousand to nine thousand degree Celsius-days. The summer in the north is hot and, for more than 20 days in a year, the temperature can be higher than 35 °C (95 °F). The average annual precipitation is 1,500 to 2,000 millimetres (59 to 79 in) and can be as high as 2,400 millimetres (94 in) in central and eastern areas, and as low as 900 millimetres (35 in) in the coastal areas of the southwest. The eastern part of Hainan lies in the path of typhoons, and 70% of the annual precipitation is derived from typhoons and the summer rainy season. Major flooding occurs due to the typhoons and they can cause many problems for the local residents. From January to February, the island of Hainan is affected by thick fog, particularly in coastal areas and the northern part of the island. This is caused by cold winter air from the north coming into contact with the warmer sea, causing the moisture that evaporates from the sea to be condensed into fog.
Guangzhou
Guangzhou (Chinese: 广州, literally wide state) (former common romanisation: Canton; less-commonly known as Kwangchow) is the capital and largest city of Guangdong province, People's Republic of China. Located on the Pearl River, about 120 km (75 mi) north-northwest of Hong Kong and north-northeast of Macau, Guangzhou is a key national transportation hub and trading port. One of the five National Central Cities, it holds sub-provincial administrative status.
Guangzhou is the third largest Chinese city and southern China's largest city. As of the 2010 census, the city's administrative area had a population of 12.78 million, making itself the most populous city in South China. Some estimates place the population of the entire Pearl River Delta Mega City built up area as high as 40 million including Shenzhen (10.36 million), Dongguan (8.22 million) and most parts of Foshan (7.19 million), Jiangmen (4.45 million), Zhongshan (3.12 million) and a small part of Huizhou adjoining Dongguan and Shenzhen, with an area of about 20,000 square kilometres (7,700 sq mi). In 2008 Guangzhou was identified as a Beta World City by the global city index produced by the GaWC, the Globalization and World Cities Research Network.

Chongqing
Chongqing (Chinese: 重庆; pinyin: Chóngqìng (English pronunciation: /tʃɒŋ ˈtʃɪŋ/); former official name: Chungking (English pronunciation: /tʃʌŋ ˈkɪŋ/)) is a major city in Southwest China and one of the five national central cities in the People's Republic of China (PRC). Administratively, it is one of the PRC's four direct-controlled municipalities (the other three are Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin), and the only such municipality in inland China.
The municipality was created on 14 March 1997, succeeding the sub-provincial city administration that was part of Sichuan province. As of 2010 census, the municipality had a population of 28,846,170. According to this census, Chongqing is the most populous Chinese municipality, although the urbanized area is estimated to have a population of only 6 or 7 million, whereas the built-up area made up of 8 out of 9 urban districts (all but Beibei not yet built-up) was home to 6,777,229 inhabitants at the 2010 census. Chongqing is the largest direct-controlled municipality in China, and comprises 21 districts, 13 counties, and 4 autonomous counties.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Chongqing (, also US: , Chinese: [ʈʂʰʊ̌ŋ.tɕʰîŋ] (listen)), alternately romanized as Chungking, is a major city in southwest China. Administratively, it is one of China's four municipalities under the direct administration of central government (the other three are Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin), and the only such municipality in China located far away from the coast.Chongqing was a municipality during the Republic of China (ROC) administration, serving as its wartime capital during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945); during this period, Chongqing was listed as one of the world's four anti-fascist command centers, along with Washington, D.C., London and Moscow. The current municipality was recreated on 14 March 1997 to help develop the central and western parts of China. The Chongqing administrative municipality has a population of over 30 million, spread over an area the size of Austria. The city of Chongqing made of 9 urban districts has a much smaller population of 18,384,100 as of 2016 estimation. According to the 2010 census, Chongqing is the most populous Chinese municipality, and also the largest direct-controlled municipality in China, containing 26 districts, eight counties, and four autonomous counties.
The official abbreviation of the city, Yu (渝), was approved by the State Council on 18 April 1997. This abbreviation is derived from the old name of a part of the Jialing River that runs through Chongqing and feeds into the Yangtze River.
Chongqing has a significant history and culture. Being one of China's National Central Cities, it serves as the economic centre of the upstream Yangtze basin. It is a major manufacturing centre and transportation hub; a July 2012 report by the Economist Intelligence Unit described it as one of China's 13 emerging megalopolises.
