Shanghai Vlog: TianShan Tea City!
:: instagram.com/timandglo ::
April 26, 2014
It was another rainy Saturday, but fortunately Shanghai has no shortage of indoor activities. We ventured to TianShan Tea City and spent a delightful afternoon trying all sorts of Chinese tea. TianShan Tea City is located on ZhongShan West Road, near YuPing Road. The closest subway station is ZhongShan Park on lines 2, 3, and 4.
Afterward we went to the mall at the ZhongShan Park subway station for lunch. This is another huge multi-story mall with a two-level Carrefour and tons of Chinese and foreign brand shops.
At the end of the video we share which teas we bought and experiment with brewing tea using our embarrassingly makeshift tea brewing equipment.
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

Shanghai Vlog: ZhuJiaJiao Water Town
:: instagram.com/timandglo ::
May 3, 2014
For a change of scenery, we took the HuZhu Express bus from downtown Shanghai to ZhuJiaJiao, an ancient water town about one hour from the city center. We spent half a day meandering through the town's narrow shop-lined alleyways and crossing romantic stone bridges over canals filled with wooden manually operated boats. The comfortable bus ride was only 12 RMB (USD $2) per person, leaving about every 10 minutes from the Pu'an Road bus station near Middle JinLing Road and closest to the DaShiJie metro station on Line 8.
We advise getting as early a start as possible because ZhuJiaJiao is packed with tourists by 11:00 AM on weekends. It's an even more enjoyable place when you have it pretty much to yourself in the mornings and/or evenings.
Happy travels!

When I was in Shanghai I was brought to this tea shop in Shanghai. They have fruit teas and milk tea (with very thick cheese top), and I fell in love with this tea shop immediately. When I went again on Thursday there were so many people that we waited for 30 mins to get our serve!
Anyway if you are curious about what we local eat and drink in Shanghai, have a watch.

Beijing is the largest city in China and the largest city proper by population in the world. It is situated at the mouth of the Yangtze River in Eastern China, south of the capital Beijing. Its strategic location and excellent shipping facilities made it attractive for foreign trade in the 19th century and the city developed into a hub for commerce between east and west. Along with import and export trade Shanghai became a financial centre around the 1930s. This influence declined after the Communist Party takeover in 1949, as trade focused on socialist countries. A return of the city to a global financial power came in the 1990s after economic reforms introduced by reformist leader Deng Xiaoping. Modern Shanghai is a now a truly global city with major influences in commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology, and transport. The city is split into a number of districts of which the Inner ones are of most importance for visitors. These are: The Bund 外滩 Wàitān - The colonial riverside of Shanghai with dozens of old historical buildings lining the Huangpu River; Changning 长宁区 Chángníngqū - Home to Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai Zoo; Shanghai Luwan, Xuhui Leafy district once known as the Paris of the East and one of Shanghai's most rich and vibrant neighborhoods; Hongkou 虹口区 Hóngkǒuqū - Home of Lu Xun Park as well as a football stadium; Huangpu excluding the Old City 黄浦区; Huángpǔqū - The traditional center of Shanghai, home to People's Square, People's Park, and the Shanghai Museum; Jing'an District 静安区 Jìngānqū - Home to Jing'an Temple; Old City 南市 Nanshi - Home of Yu Garden, the City God Temple, and Huxingting Tea House; Putuo 普陀区 Pǔtuóqū ; Yangpu (杨浦区; Yángpǔqū -- Location of Fudan University and Tongji University; and Zhabei 闸北区 Zháběiqū - Location of the Shanghai Railway Station. Another main area of interest is The Pudong the CBD Central Business District and home to the iconic Oriental Pearl TV Tower with its famous outdoor viewing platform.

Shanghai's Top Tea House
This is a very popular place according to all the guide books. We don't think this place is a tourist trap, but it is expensive at $23 USD a person (they did not charge for our 10 yr old). We are not tea experts, it just tasted like tea. Go for the people watching and the view (not the snacks). Make sure to sit upstairs at one of the widows.
Teaceremony in Shanghai China
Went by coincidence into a tea shop in Shanghai. Tea drinking is an important part of Chinese culture.
China as Japan have for tea drinking a particular ceremony. I got a small show of this young man. Nothing for busy people......
