Eating and Exploring in KRABI, THAILAND // Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea) // Travel Vlog
Next time you're in Krabi, check out the Pak-Up Hostel!
My first stop in Southern Thailand was Krabi (กระบี่), a town which is a launching point for many other destinations on the western coast of the Thai peninsula. Unfortunately, I visited during rainy season, so I couldn't enjoy the famous Railay Beach. But a little rain never kept me from finding something to do!
I enjoyed the night food stands near the river, walked 1,237 steps (!) to the top of the Tiger Cave Temple, and tried the delicious May & Mark's restaurant.

the Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea), in Krabi Town, is well known in the Province for its many ( I think a million)stairs into heaven!
Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea), Krabi Thailand
Short aerial video taken from the Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea) in THailand's Krabi district. The climb up entails 1,237 steep steps up the mountain. A long trek to get there, but stunning views to those that do.
Tiger Cave Temple Krabi - Wat Tham Suea Tiger Cave Temple
The Tiger Cave Temple with its 1237 steps to the Big Buddha and its Buddha footprint and a tiger paw print in the cave is one of the most exciting temples in Thailand. The Buddhist temple is also called Wat Tham Suea.
It is located close to Krabi Town and can be visited easily by taxi or motorbike. There is a lot to see at the temple where the temple monkeys run around. Wonderland is a special section where the monks sleep and are surrounded by rain forest with very old trees. The Tiger cave is filled with buddha artifacts. To get to the buddha on the top of the hill you will have to climb 1.237 steps, but you are rewarded by a stunning view of the krabi region.

About Us!
If you had told me a year ago that we were going to sell all of our stuff to start backpacking the world, I would have called you a liar. Decisions like the one we made start with an inflection point. A point where you realize that life can never be the same anymore. After a challenging, and painful year in 2017, we decided we needed to go out and live the life we wanted to live, instead of watching it on someone else’s YouTube Channel. We had given everything we had, physically and emotionally, for other’s dreams and were ready to work that hard for ourselves. From rock bottom, Chase for Adventure was born.
The Chase Begins
We moved in with our parents, sold everything we own including our cars, and paid off $70,000 worth of debt. We worked 70hrs/week over the last year trying to save up $15,000 to make our dreams come true. Now, we are travel journalists who showcase the beauty in different cultures and inspire others to chase their dreams through our YouTube Channel and website Chase for Adventure. We want to show others that if they want something bad enough, they’ll figure out how to get it; show people who are struggling that they can make the light at the end of their tunnel. Chase for Adventure is more than just a travel vlog and blog; it’s the chronicles of what it’s like to have a dream and do whatever it takes to attain it.

Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea), Krabi Thailand
#TIGER_CAVE_TEMPLE #WAT_THAM_SUA #KRABI #THAILAND
Krabi Tiger Cave offers a genuine spiritual experience in stunning natural surroundings. Tiger Cave Temple or Wat Tham Sua sits 5 km northeast from Krabi Town centre. It is one of Thailand’s finest natural wonders, and it's definitely worth a visit. The temple here is a warren of natural limestone caves formed inside at the foot of an impressive cliff. There are beautiful icons in the main temple cave, but the real attraction here is the ‘footprint of the Buddha’. To get to this historic site you need to hike 1,237 steps up the limestone tower. Krabi Tiger Cave offers you a challenging climb, especially in the Thai climate. Those who make it to the top are compensated with panoramic 360 degree views. The panorama encompasses the Andaman Sea, dramatic limestone cliff formations, and verdant rainforests. You'll also discover ‘the Buddha’s footprint’ that lies on the terrace. The vistas are particularly stunning at sunrise and sunset. It's also the best time to climb up and avoid the heat.
The Tiger Cave Temple is 278 meters high and in order to reach the summit, it is necessary to manage some steep stairs with no less than 1237 steps. Some of the steps are relatively small, but some of them are almost knee-high. The ascent is really sweaty and for visitors with vertigo, the hike can be a real thrill.
Before you start your climb remember the followings:
-Take enough drinking water with you! Even for athletes, the ascent is really exhausting and also the descent from the temple is not that easy.
-Take breaks often – the walk should be the goal.
-Do not feed the monkeys – they are not as nice as they seem to be.
-A t-shirt to change can certainly not hurt.
-If you are planning a descent after sunset you should bring headlamps with you.
-Taking your sport shoes make sense, but some visitors also do the hike with flip-flops.
The Tiger Cave Temple is certainly the early morning and the late afternoon. At this time of the day, the sun is not that strong. Avoid a climb at lunchtime, it will definitely too hot.
How long does it take to get to the summit?
The walking time up to the temple is, depending on your fitness level, 40 minutes to 1 hour or even more. On the way you will find several places to take a break. Every now and then you will find benches to sit and breathe. In any case, because the climb is really sweaty, you should take enough drinking water with you. All in all, the visit to the Tiger Cave Temple will take you around 3 hours or even more.
Dress Code:
The Tiger Cave Temple is a Buddhist monastery. The place is considered sacred and therefore proper dress is mandatory. Women have to keep knees and shoulders covered. For Men, in our experience, it is not quite so accurate. If you need something to cover up, you can buy cheap towels at the entrance (20 Baht).
Entrance fee and opening hours:
-There is no admission fee walking up to the Tiger Cave Temple. If you visit the actual Tiger Cave you will be asked for a voluntary donation of 40 Baht.
The temples are open all the time.
How to get to Tiger Cave Temple:
Getting to Tiger Cave Temple can easily be organized from Krabi Old town, Ao Nang and Klong Muang Beach. You can choose from different transport options:
Klong Muang Beach: Going by private taxi you will pay about 1,500 Baht (2-ways) from Klong Muang Beach to Tiger Cave Temple. The driving time is around 45 minutes and the taxi driver will wait for you at the parking site.
Ao Nang: The private taxi should not cost more than 1,200 Baht (go and return). Like above, the driver waits until you’re done with the tour. Scooters: If you want to go by scooter, you can rent one in Ao Nang. The journey by scooter to the temple takes about 1 hour.
Krabi Town: The private taxi from Krabi to the Tiger Cave costs around 700 baht. It’s cheaper to take a shared taxis (100 baht per person) or to drive with your own scooter (about 20 minutes).
Tours to Tiger Cave Temple:
A lot of tour agencies offer group tours. Mostly these tours are offered in combination Tiger Cave Temple – Hot Springs – Emerald Pools from Krabi, Ao Nang and Klong Muang. We also joined a group and our agency was a great one. They do offer daily trips in Phi Phi, Krabi, Phuket.

Tiger Cave Temple - Wat Tham Sua -Krabi Thailand- Tiger and Monk use to live in Cave
Hi Friends,
Welcome back. for today's journey where we will be taking you Tiger cave temple or often referred as wat tham sua, we hired bikes for our day trip, which costed us about 200 Bhats per day, let us first go to tiger cave which is at the foot of the hill, it is known for tiger paw prints in the cave, Legend has it that a tiger once made the main cave his home, tiger use to stroll around in the jungle and inside the cave (Tiger Cave). A monk who was meditating there always heard him roaring. this temple compound was build in 1975, we need to maintain silence inside the temple, and entry is free, but you will be asked for a voluntary donation and it is not mandatory. its a divine experience and is definately worth visiting outside the tiger cave there is huge surrounding where ther few more temple and buddha statues, its very humid and hot in here, so it would be better to plan to visit in early morning time, there is ample amount of parking here for bikes. going across the compound these are the new temples which are under construction, outer structure is ready but the work inside is still going on this sit is a known for being a meditation center, it is also a place of archaeological and historical interest.
there various tour organizers who includ wat tham sua in their tour plan, you can enquire about various tour plans with agents in krabi city and decide which one to opt depending on your interest, usually under package they allot 3 hours duration for wat tham sua, this 3 hours duration is to be used to roam around the temple compound and climb 1237 steps to reach the top of mountain where a Big buddha statue is there.
Before starting the climb make sure you are adequetely hydrated also carry bottle of water along, it is very humid during afternoon time it is 1 in the afternoon now so it is hot and humid, if possible carry some snack for your journey to the top as it usually takes 1 -2 hours to reacht the top depending on your stamina make sure to carry a small bag with hand towel and a spare t-shirt as you might be drenched in sweat til you reach the top, this climb is not recommended for people who have breathing or heart related problems and only climb if you have previous experience of hiking or trekking
lets start our trek now, well we are not confident that we could climb till the top but lets give it a try, beware of the monkey on the way to top and there are instructions board which say not to feed the monekys as they may snatch your belongings, there are steel railings for the support to climb and these railings have been marked with number of steps covered at a frequent distance, you can take rest in the middle if you are tired there are benches in between to take some rest , as you climb up you get to see the beautiful city of Krabi and view is really breathtaking, lets keep moving forward, some steps here are very steep and some are very high so be careful
