What It Costs To Live In Berlin
Dubbed by its former mayor as “poor but sexy”, Berlin has fostered a large community of creatives including artists and musicians for over a decade. Its artsy appeal and extremely low rents, in comparison to its European counterparts, have drawn a new wave of entrepreneurs building up the city’s startup scene. Along with foreign investments, this influx has ramped up property values, earning Berlin the top spot on a global list of cities with the fastest rising property prices.
VICE News spent a day with a comedy club owner to see how he keeps a creative venture running in a changing city.
Making It, a globe-trotting look at how far your money will take you in one particular city.

This Tree in Germany Could Bring You Love
Online dating can be a real drag—but don’t despair, fatigued single! In a forest in northern Germany, you’ll find an intriguing IRL alternative to endless swiping. It all started back in 1890, when a forest ranger shunned his daughter’s romance with a chocolate maker’s son. Determined to keep the passion alive, the sneaky lovebirds starting leaving one another letters in a hundreds-year-old tree just outside the forest ranger’s office. All these years later, Der Bräutigamseiche, or “The Bridegroom’s Oak,” still connects hopeful hearts via snail mail.

Airbus A340-600 | Lufthansa | Inflight Experience | Munich to Berlin-Tegel
After Air Berlin ceased operations in October 2017, Lufthansa increased frequencies on their Berlin services from Munich and Frankfurt. Besides some additional services, Lufthansa also used high capacity long haul aircraft on some flights.
Join me on this scheduled domestic flight from Munich to Berlin. Leaving Munich shortly before sunset and arriving in Berlin at night. It was one of the very occasion when Lufthansa uses wide body aircraft on a domestic flight. Usually flights are operated by aircraft of the Airbus A320 family.
The video gives you an impression of the inflight experience on a Lufthansa A340-600 in economy class on a domestic service.

Germany is a Western European country with a landscape of forests, rivers, mountain ranges and North Sea beaches. It has over 2 millennia of history. Berlin, its capital, is home to art and nightlife scenes, the Brandenburg Gate and many sites relating to WWII. Munich is known for its Oktoberfest and beer halls, including the 16th-century Hofbräuhaus. Frankfurt, with its skyscrapers, houses the European Central Bank.

✈ Farewell AIR BERLIN ❤ - The End of an Era
A tribute to Air Berlin - some footage of AB planes and flights with which I have flown with. Sad to see how this airline is brought to an end, especially because I was on the AB charter flight to the Northpole just last year. A fascinating adventure.
All flights will be discontinued by the end of this month. Long-haul flights already ended in mid-october.
In August 2017, the 2nd largest German airline entered insolvency procedures after the withdrawal of ongoing support from its largest shareholder, Etihad, and the resignation of board directors appointed by Etihad.
Air Berlin announced to its staff that it would cease all remaining operations under its own AB flight numbers due to its negative financial outlook and bankruptcy proceedings. On 12 October 2017, Lufthansa bought 81 aircraft and took 3000 workers together for €210 million, taking over the subsidiaries Niki and Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter with a total of 1300 employees.

In 7 days by houseboat from Berlin to Müritz.
Three waterways, two travelers, a houseboat: Stefan Pinnow and his captain Christine Drühl sail first on the Havel from Berlin via Werder to Brandenburg. Continue to Rathenow and the Westhavelland Nature Park. At Havelberg, the river flows into the Elbe. After a stopover in Wittenberge, the boat bends near Dömitz - here the largest inland dune in Europe - lures into the Müritz-Elde waterway. Next stop: the Schaumkuss-Manufaktur in Grabow. Then the journey slowly approaches its intended destination: Waren an der Müritz. Stefan Pinnow and Christine Drühl glide leisurely for seven days. They cross lakes, pass through locks and enjoy the morning rest on board. On the riverbank, they discover herons and sea eagles, and time and again they meet people with exciting stories.
