Nagoya Toshogu Shrine
Before being destroyed in the war, it was the most luxurious Toshogu Shrine in Japan.
Toshogu Festival was held during the Edo period.
Toshogu Shrine - Nikko - 日光東照宮 - 4K Ultra HD
The Toshogu Shrine in Nikko is a very popular tourist attraction for both Japanese and foreigners alike. It is the final resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate that ruled Japan for over 250 years.
The shrine consists of more than a dozen buildings located in a beautiful forest outside the main city. The design and complexity of the shrine’s decorations are unique, and a marked contrast to the typically simple and understated shrines in Japan. The architectural design of this shrine spread to other locations such as the Nezu Shrine in Tokyo or the Toshogu Shrine of Ueno.
For those who are adventurous and don’t mind climbing some stairs, you can follow the path to the tomb of Ieyasu. There you will find Nemurineko, a famous carving of a sleeping cat. While the tomb isn’t as spectacular as the shrine, the surrounding forest gives the tomb an eerie mystic feeling, making it worth your walk to get there.

NIHONDAIRA AND TOSHOGU SHRINE - Shizuoka, Japan
This place came up as a recommended spot from our AirBnb host as being one of the top few places that actually has great views of Mt Fuji.
After doing a little more of our own research, we found out to our amazement that this is rated within the top 5 spots in Shizuoka to have a great view of the Shizuoka Plains alongside with Mt Fuji.
We were blessed with absolutely great views despite the strongest of winds and got to see Mt Fuji in of its splendour.
I have to admit, I'm easily satisfied by the view of Mt Fuji but later realising that the nearby temple is host to the final resting place of a revered character during the Samurai Period, I had to drop by and pay my respects.
I've always been a big fan of all games relating to Samurai. This was brought and highlighted to me when my former partner bought me the game Shogun 2 for PC and since then, it's been the game I frequently play when I'm in my downtime.
I am glad to pay my respects to this inspirational figure.

As always, I appreciate the support from my friends from Australia, Long & Shanny, who both have a Food Photography Instagram (@shlongeats) and welcome Laura & Najat to Japan

Osu Shopping district - Nagoya - Aichi - 大須商店 - 4K Ultra HD
Located in the center of Nagoya, and nearby Osu Kannon temple, the Osu shopping district is a vast network of nice shopping arcades. These arcades spread across Osu Kannon street, Mioumon street, Osu Hon-dori, Mozen-cho street, Banshoji street, Higashi Nioumon street, Akamon street and Shintenchi Street.
First opened 400 years ago, the Osu shopping district is your typical Japanese shopping arcade, also known as shōtengai (商店街), where you can find pretty much everything you would ever need. There are many different kind of stores, restaurants and even small game arcades and pachinko parlors.
What makes the Osu shopping district so special is not only its 400 year old history, but also its 1,200 stores and its, prominent ‘otaku’ culture thanks to its annual “World Cosplay Summit”.

Yasukuni Shrine- Tokyo - 靖国神社 - 4K Ultra HD
Founded in 1869 by the Emperor Meiji, the Yasukuni Shrine is unfortunately known by many outside Japan for being the center of some controversy. Nevertheless, the Yasukuni Shrine is one of Japan’s most famous shrines and dedicated to anyone, Japanese or not, soldier or not, that lost their lives while serving Japan.
Modest in size, Yasukuni is nonetheless an impressive Shrine and once a year holds a fantastic festival called the Mitama Matsuri, featuring around 30,000 lanterns (Mitama). Also controversial for some is the presence of the Yushukan museum that commemorates and documents Japan’s past wars that may not be of much interest for most tourists visiting the place.
Finally, far from any sensible subject, Yasukuni also features a nice little pond filled with many Koi fish that many people seems to ignore. Located just behind the main shrine, this little pond is perfect for anyone who’s looking for some well-earned rest and peace in this sleepless city that is Tokyo.

Best in Travel - Tōshō gū, Japan
A Tōshō-gū (東照宮) is any Shinto shrine in which Tokugawa Ieyasu is enshrined with the name Tōshō Daigongen (東照大権現). Ieyasu was the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate (1603-1868), which is the third and last of the shogunal governments in Japanese history. It is part of Shrines and Temples of Nikkō UNESCO World Heritage site.
Tōshō-gū shrines are found throughout Japan. The most famous Tōshō-gū is located in Nikkō in Tochigi Prefecture. It is one of Japan's most popular destinations for tourists.
Ieyasu's son, the second shogun Hidetada, ordered the construction of the Nikkō Tōshō-gū. Later, the third shogun Iemitsu had the shrine greatly enlarged and lavishly decorated.
Three Wise Monkeys (Hear no evil, Speak no evil, See no evil), Nikkō
The Tōshō-gū at Ueno Park in Tokyo is also widely known. The Kunōzan Tōshō-gū is in Shizuoka prefecture and rivals Nikkō's for decorative splendor. Another one is the Nagoya Tōshō-gū, constructed in 1619. A Tōshō-gū can also be found at Miyanochō, in Sendai.
During the Edo period, these shrines reached 500 in number. After the Meiji Restoration, many were abandoned, and others united with shrines in the area. Presently, there are about 130 Tōshō-gū.

Chiba Naritasan Shinshoji Temple - 成田山 - 4K Ultra HD
Chiba Naritasan Shinshoji Temple - 成田山 : Founded in 940 by Kanchō Daisōjō, a disciple of Kōbō Daishi, Naritasan (Narita-san) Shinshoji (Shinsho-ji) is a Shingon Buddhist temple located in central Narita, and near Narita airport.
Despite its age, Naritasan remained a remote and humble temple until Tokugawa Ieyasu (徳川 家康) moved his capital to Edo in 1603. Only then did Naritasan Shinshoji, both in fame and size, start to grow. As for today, the temple features many different buildings including the gorgeous two-storey Great Pagoda of Peace located far behind the main hall, as well as a colorful and more traditional three storey pagoda adjacent to the great main hall. Located a short walk from the great main hall you will find the Shakado Hall, Gakudo Hall (under renovation when this video was shot), the Komyodo Hall and even a museum dedicated to Japanese calligraphy!

Japan Highlights - Nikko
We went to Nikko and I filmed in some of the world heritage sights there.
JAPAN: A Day in Nagoya Ep. 2: Osu Kannon 大須観音 || Autumn OCT 2018 || Kiyoshi Toji
Osu Kannon (大須観音, Ōsu Kannon) is a popular Buddhist temple in central Nagoya. Originally built during the Kamakura Period (1192-1333) in neighboring Gifu Prefecture, the temple was moved to its current site by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1612 after the original temple had been repeatedly damaged by severe flooding. The current buildings are 20th century
The main object of worship at the temple is a wooden statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, which was carved by Kobo Daishi, an instrumental figure in Japanese Buddhism. Underneath Osu Kannon's main hall is the Shinpukuji Library which contains over 15,000 classic Japanese and Chinese texts. Among these texts are several national treasures and important cultural properties, including the oldest copy of the Kojiki, a chronicle of the early history of Japan including its mythological origins.
A flea market is held on the temple grounds on the 18th and 28th of every month. The modestly sized market includes around 60 stalls selling everything from souvenirs and antiques to clothes and second hand goods. Just beside the temple is the entrance to the Osu Shopping Arcade, a network of aging but charming covered shopping streets with over 400 shops and restaurants. The area is sometimes compared to Tokyo's Akihabara district as there are a lot of stores that specialize in electronics, cosplay, anime, J-pop and idol goods.
