Gothenburg Travel Guide - Sweden Attractive Experience
Gothenburg Travel Guide - Sweden Attractive Experience
Gothenburg (Swedish: Göteborg, pronounced Yeutebory) is the second largest city in Sweden with approximately 500,000 inhabitants (2008) in the municipality. It is situated on Sweden's west coast at the outlet of the Göta river. With over 40,000 students Gothenburg University is the largest in Scandinavia. Gothenburg has a reputation of being a friendly place, even more welcoming than the Swedish capital.
With neighboring provinces Halland and Bohuslän under Danish rule, the Göta River used to be Sweden's only western port, since the 14th century guarded by a fort named Älvsborg. The city of Gothenburg was founded in 1621 by King Gustav II Adolf, during the height of the Swedish Empire. It was once the center of the Swedish ship-building industry, but with rising competition from foreign ship yards, many of the dry docks closed down during the late 20th century. Much of the inner harbor area has changed from industrial ship building to high technology and education, representative of the general change in the city. Today Gothenburg has both international sporting events, concerts, and conventions as well as a small town feel. An industrial town, Gothenburg has been a stronghold of the Social Democratic Party.
Public transportation within Gothenburg (and the west of Sweden) is operated by Västtrafik and consists of trams, buses and ferries. Gothenburg has a famous network of trams that covers most of the city. With over 150 km the Gothenburg tram is the largest light rail network in Scandinavia. Tram and stombuss (trunk bus lines) are the most efficient way to travel within the city centre, but if you're planning to go further you might need to go by bus. Bus lines heading in the same direction often departs from the same part of the city. Two ferry services run across the river; Älvsnabben is the regular ferry service with traffic every thirty minutes, and Älvsnabbare that only run between Rosenlund and Lindholmspiren (free of charge) during work hours.
The main restaurant street in Gothenburg is Linnégatan running from Järntorget to Linnéplatsen. It has a high concentration of good restaurants of all kinds in the low to moderate price range. Most restaurants offer lunch menus ranging 60-80 SEK, mostly they are served between 11:30 and 14:00. Gothenburg has a vast array of cafés practically everywhere. In the district Haga (near Järntorget) you can find a lot of nice cafés. Try the big Kanelbulle (Cinnamon bun). But be quick, usually they are sold out around 4 or 5 pm.
Gothenburg has several parks and nature reserves ranging in size from tens of square metres to hundreds of hectares. It also has many green areas that are not designated as parks or reserves. The sea, trade, and industrial history of the city is evident in the cultural life of Gothenburg. It is also a popular destination for tourists on the Swedish west coast.

GOTHENBURG CENTRAL STATION: Gothenburg, Sweden.

It is the oldest railway station in Sweden. It is hub for the city's rail and bus traffic. But it's more than just a place for arrivals and departures. Here you can find a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants.
Gothenburg Central Station is best reached by taking the tram lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 11 or 13 to the Drottningtorget station. In the same building as the central station you also find the bus terminal, Nils Ericson Terminalen.
Liseberg - Gothenburg, Sweden
Liseberg Amusement Park in the centre of Gothenburg (since 1923). Liseberg is Sweden’s biggest and most atmospheric Christmas market. Liseberg is a smoke-free park.
Address: Örgrytevägen 5, SE-402 22 Gothenburg
Winter land
The snowmen will welcome you inside the gates of the main entrance. The snowmen say there is nothing as glorious as a glistening blanket of snow, so don’t miss this opportunity to take the most Christmassy Christmas card photo with them!
A winter saga
Fairytale figures light up the dark winter night as they climb towards the clear starry sky in a spectacular whirling dance. A dance that grows wings and sweeps over the roofs, casting a dreamlike light over the entire park.
Santa´s Christmas Workshop
The elves are busy making Christmas gifts and packing all Santa’s Christmas sacks.
Christmas spirit is definitely at Liseberg.
Old-fashioned Christmas
Stroll around and enjoy the old-fashioned christmas market. The aromas of toffee apples, hot chocolate and mulled wine combined with Christmas decorations give this area a very seasonal atmosphere. On the other side of the bridges the harbour area also offers christmas cheer in the form of hot coffee and home-made christmas delicacies.
Christmas with the rabbits
In the corner of Kaninlandet (Rabbit Land) a cabin has appeared covered in snow and frost. This is the christmas home of Julius, the rabbit’s cousin from the North Pole. Here and there among the gentle winter carousels for the little ones you may come across snowy footsteps from cans labelled “Snö-färg” (snow paint). What a wonderful colour it is!
Christmas Market
Go gift hunting among the Christmas market stalls in the glow of millions of Christmas lights or just enjoy the magical Christmas atmosphere with smells from homemade sweets, roasted almonds and steaming hot chocolate
Harbour area
The Christmas mood continues in the harbour area of the park among the Christmas wreaths and beautifully decorated trees. Fully loaded boats jostle at the quayside and all the aromas of Christmas are carried on the air from the doors of the restaurants.
Medieval village
In the camp that has been set up at the edge of town, families are preparing for the big mid-winter festival. The glow from the smithy spreads across the camp as cooking pots bubble over open fires. It shows craftsmen preparing for midwinter celebration. A number of merchants have also opened up their tents to sell a range of beautiful and fascinating goods. The park´s medieval village transports visitors back in time.
Parking at Liseberg
In addition to Liseberg´s own car park near Liseberg’s South Entrance there are several car parks within easy walking distance of the amusement park.

Göteborg - Gothenburg, Sweden - Travel guide to the second largest city of Sweden

Gothenburg, City Walk - Sweden 4K Travel Channel
Gothenburg, with more than 980,000 inhabitants, is the second largest city in Sweden.
The area was already populated in the Stone Age. Gothenburg attained special importance, when the town granted free access to the North Sea,while Denmark controlled the access to the Baltic.
The city of Gothenburg was founded by King Gustav II Adolf in 1619. In the 18th century, the Swedish-East India Company was founded; the only company that was allowed to do trade with India and China. In the 20th century, Gothenburg was an important headquarters of the textile industry. Due to an unstable underground, the looms rubbed themselves off unilaterally. Sven Gustav Wingqvist constructed then the pendulum ball bearing and founded the company SKF(Svenska Kullagerfabriken), from which later the automotive supplier Volvo emerged.
After our arrival in Gothenburg, the night falls and we are looking to get something to eat nearby our hotel. Quickly, we find the Lagerhuset at the harbor. Since it is a warm pleasant summer evening, we can sit on the benches in front of the restaurant. Afterward, we admire the play of colors of the sunset. The clear colors of the summer evening in the north fascinate us again and again. Unusually for us, of course, is that at the time of the recordings it is already 22:30.
The next morning, we start our walk in the same direction and then turn into a Rosenlundsgatan until we arrive at the Fish Church, Feskekörka.
This building, designed by the city architect Victor von Gegerfelt, got his name due to its resemblance to a Gothic church. The Fish Market opened in 1874 and replaced the former outdoor fish market.
Fresh and tasty presented, you get the best seafood in Gothenburg here.
After a quick snack, we continue Sahlgrensgatan and turn left into the Victoriabron. Here are a number of educational institutions, from a teacher academy to university.

please read more:
