Places to see in ( Heidelberg - Germany ) Town Hall
Places to see in ( Heidelberg - Germany ) Town Hall
The predecessor of the present day town hall was destroyed by French troups in 1689. The foundation-stone for Heidelberg's new town hall was laid in 1701. Chief Engineer Flemal was responsible for sketching out the plan for the building located in the middle of the complex. The sculpture showing masks and the Prince Elector's coat of arms was created by the Hungarian sculptor Heinrich Charrasky who lived and worked in Heidelberg from 1710 to 1720.
The Rococo gratings of the balcony carrying the initials of Prince Elector Carl Theodor were added in 1751. From 1703 till 1914, the assembly hall was located behind the balcony, i.e. in the adjacent northern rooms. Due to a fire, the town hall had to be reconstructed in 1908. Several houses located south of the building along the Hauptstraße were pulled down and replaced by the new building which was to become part of the town hall. The east building of the town hall had been built before, in 1886. Another building including a small bell tower was added here in 1961.
Heidelberg City Hall ('Rathaus') is located right on the bustling Market Square against the backdrop of the historic Old Town, the world-famous Castle ruins and the banks of the river Neckar. It is the focal point for local politics and the headquarters of the city's administrative services. For residents of the Old Town, it is also their local municipal headquarters, the 'little city hall', as it is known: each neighborhood has one, so locals do not have to travel too far for help and advice. It is a people-oriented approach to local government that is also reflected in a comprehensive range of online services, regular consultations with the Mayor, a variety of different policymaking bodies and, last but not least, Heidelberg's approach to encouraging residents to become involved in local affairs.

Philosophers Walk (Philosophenweg) in Heidelberg, Germany
So many things to do in beautiful Heidelberg, Germany and one of them was doing the famous Philosphers Walk (or Way as some call it) - Philosophenweg, in German. It is a bit strenous at first, since you start at the foot of the old bridge (Altebrucke) by the Neckar River and take some winding steps quite a ways up. But, it is all worth it, for lovely views along the way and especially those from the top. Many famous poets, philosphers and writers have walked this path for hundreds of years (including Mark Twain who wrote about it in A Tramp Abroad), along with everyday students from the University of Heidelberg.
One of the interesting sights we saw near the top was a Bismark Monument - apparently these are all over Europe, not just Germany, and were a tribute to Otto von Bismark, first chancellor of the old Third Reich.

WALKING TOUR | The Würzburg Residence and Garden (Germany) | June 2019 | Iam_Pingkit
Würzburg is a city in Germany's Bavaria region. It's known for lavish baroque and rococo architecture, particularly the 18th-century Residenz palace, with ornate rooms, a huge fresco by Venetian artist Tiepolo and an elaborate staircase. Home to numerous wine bars, cellars and wineries, Würzburg is the center of the Franconian wine country, with its distinctive bocksbeutel (bottles with flattened round shapes). source:
The Würzburg Residence (German: Würzburger Residenz) is a palace in Würzburg, Germany. Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt and Maximilian von Welsch, representatives of the Austrian/South German Baroque style, were involved in the construction, as well as Robert de Cotte and Germain Boffrand, who were followers of the French Style. Balthasar Neumann, court architect of the Bishop of Würzburg, was the principal architect of the Residence, which was commissioned by the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn and his brother Friedrich Carl von Schönborn in 1720, and completed in 1744. The Venetian painter Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, assisted by his son, Domenico, painted frescoes in the building.
Interiors considered masterworks of Baroque/Rococo or Neoclassical architecture and art include the grand staircase, the chapel, and the Imperial Hall. The building was reportedly called the largest parsonage in Europe by Napoleon.[1]:52 It was heavily damaged by Allied bombing during World War II, and restoration has been in progress since 1945. Since 1981, the Residence has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Source:

Xmas Town Hall, Hamburg, Germany 2015 - 4K
Xmas Town Hall, Hamburg, Germany 4K
You want something to eat or drink, great buy, and sometimes unusual gifts such as wooden toys or antiques? You just want to breathe pure Christmas spirit and nostalgic atmosphere mixed with a crowd of people? Then the Christmas market at the Hamburg Town Hall (the Christmas market Rathausmarkt) - definitely is the place for you!
The orientation is easy. The individual lanes are arranged thematically (for instance the toy street or the alley of specialties german: Spezialitätengasse!). But you probably will have to push no matter what time of day something through the crowds. The Christmas market at the Hamburg Town Hall Square is probably the most popular and most visited of the city. Anyone who loves socializing, will find here exactly the right thing! If you want to come as a visitor but with a large group for mulled wine, you could get into some space constraints. However, you should have seen this beautifully designed Christmas Bazaar necessarily.
Already the thematic division of the Christmas market, its decor, the crib or Santa Claus who is flying over the heads of the visitors at 4 pm, 6 pm and 8 pm usually makes fun.
The prices are ok - especially concerning food and drinks. The accessibility is very good. You can on the one hand take one of the many buses which control the town hall. The easiest way is with the S-Bahn (lines S1 and S3). Get off at Jungfernstieg and take the exit Rathaus. Who still wants to shop properly can also do this in the adjacent shopping centers in close proximity for example in the Hanseatic Quarter (Hanseviertel), the Alte Post or the Bleichenhofpassage).
Heidelberg: Riding the historic funicular - Eine Fahrt mit der historischen Bergbahn
As early as in 1890, this funicular made its first ride. It is actually split in two parts: The first part connects Heidelberg Kornmarkt - close to the townhall (Rathaus) - with the castle, then Molkenkur. The second one leads from Molkenkur to Königsstuhl using historic and beautifully restored cars.
This video shows a ride from Kornmarkt to the castle. The funicular's speed is at roughly 5m/s.
Like if you like - and check out my other videos with lots of chicks (literally):

Places to see in ( Heidelberg - Germany ) Heidelberg Castle
Places to see in ( Heidelberg - Germany ) Heidelberg Castle
Nestled in the hill 300 feet above the city of Heidelberg stands the breath-taking Heidelberg Schloss (castle). The castle is a combination of several buildings surrounding an inner courtyard, put together with a haphazard look. Each building highlights a different period of German architecture.
The castle has a history almost as old as the city itself. The first parts of the castle were constructed around 1300, but it wasn’t before Prince Elector Ruprecht III (1398 – 1410) that the castle was used as a regal residence. Until it was destroyed by lightning in 1764 leaving it permanently uninhabitable, the castle was the residence for most of the Prince Electors. In 1800, Count Charles de Graimberg began the difficult task of conserving the castle ruins. Up until this time, the citizens of Heidelberg had used the castle stones to build new houses.
Just as breath-taking as the castle is from the city, so too is the city from the castle. From either the Great Terrace or the gardens, one has an amazing view of Heidelberg, the Neckar River, and the Neckar valley far into the Rhine plain. On a clear day, Mannheim is even visible on the horizon.
The castle gardens, constructed between 1616 and 1619 by garden architect Salomon de Caus, were commissioned by Prince Elector Friedrich V for his wife Elizabeth. Before being destroyed during the War of the Palatine Succession in 1693, the gardens were regarded as a masterpiece of their time. The gardens, built upon several terraces, were made up of many flowers beds, mazes and arbours, numerous sculptures, a heated greenhouse with orange trees, large fish ponds, waterfalls, and a man-made grotto for musical water arts.
The Heidelberg Tun, or the “World’s Largest Wine Barrel”, was built in 1751 by Prince Elector Karl Theodor to house the wine paid as taxes by the wine growers of the Palatine. It stands seven meters high, is eight and a half meters wide, holds 220,000 liters (58,124 gallons) of wine, and has a dance floor built on top of it. The court jester who guarded the cask during the reign of Prince Elector Carl Philip, a Tyrolean dwarf nick-named Perkeo, was supposedly known for his ability to drink large quantities of wine. Legend has it that he died when he mistakenly drank a glass of water.
On the lower floor of the Otto Heinrich Building (Ottheinrichsbau), is the Apothecary Museum. This unique museum allows the visitor to learn about the history of the pharmacy and of dispensaries. The collection includes a complete pharmacist’s office, a laboratory, pharmacopoeias, manuscripts, a wide array of vessels, mortars, and technical flasks, and over 1,000 raw drugs representing medicine from the 17th to 19th centuries.
