The newly-crowned Miss South Carolina receives $40,000 scholarship along with the sash and the crown during the finals of the contest at the historic Township Auditorium in Columbia. Jul 2, 2018 AceShowbiz - Davia Bunch from Spartanburg was crowned as Miss South Carolina 2018 on Saturday night, June 30 during the finals of the competition. The event took place at the historic Township Auditorium in Columbia. Davia also won both swimsuit and talent preliminaries, which made her the only double-preliminary winner in this year's pageant. For the talent competition, she performed ballet En Pointe to Feel It Still. Crowned by Miss South Carolina 2017 Suzi Roberts, Davia recieved $40,000 and was marked as the 82nd winner of the scholarship competition. The pageant's Vice President Chaz Elis was also present to help her put on her new sash. After winning the title, Davia explained that it's her mother's death in January 2013 that motivates her to fight harder everyday. I lost my mother to leukemia when I was only fifteen years old, she said. And going through that was something I struggle with for a long time. It was an eight-year battle, it was one I grew up with. But now I can advocate for people with leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. It's something that touches my heart and makes me fight harder every day. Davia, 21, is a political science student at the University of South Carolina. She will take a gap year to do her duties as Miss South Carolina before returning again to the university to complete her degree. She is also set to compete again later at Miss America pageant on September 9. The event will be held in Atlantic City, New Jersey and will air live on ABC. Meanwhile, Miss Greater Greer Sydney Ford was named the first runner-up, followed by second runner-up Miss Clemson Sydney Sill, third runner-up Miss River City Morgan Romano and fourth runner-up Miss Columbia Alexandra Badgett. Miss South Carolina pageant gave out more than $165,000 in scholarship money while the contestants also raised more than $169,000 for the Children's Miracle Network in South Carolina. German Americans (German: Deutschamerikaner) are Americans who have full or partial German ancestry. With an estimated size of approximately 44 million in 2016, German Americans are the largest of the self-reported ancestry groups by the US Census Bureau in its American Community Survey. German-Americans account for about one third of the total ethnic German population in the world.None of the German states had American colonies. In the 1670s, the first significant groups of German immigrants arrived in the British colonies, settling primarily in Pennsylvania, New York, and Virginia. Immigration continued in very large numbers during the 19th century, with eight million arrivals from Germany. Between 1820 and 1870 over seven and a half million German immigrants came to the United States. By 2010, their population grew to 49.8 million German Americans, reflecting a jump of 6 million people since 2000.
There is a German belt that extends all the way across the United States, from eastern Pennsylvania to the Oregon coast. Pennsylvania has the largest population of German-Americans in the U.S. and is home to one of the group's original settlements, Germantown (Philadelphia), founded in 1683 and the birthplace of the American antislavery movement in 1688, as well as the revolutionary Battle of Germantown. The state of Pennsylvania has 3.5 million people of German ancestry.
They were pulled by the attractions of land and religious freedom, and pushed out of Germany by shortages of land and religious or political oppression. Many arrived seeking religious or political freedom, others for economic opportunities greater than those in Europe, and others for the chance to start fresh in the New World. The arrivals before 1850 were mostly farmers who sought out the most productive land, where their intensive farming techniques would pay off. Suspense is a radio drama series broadcast from 1942 through 1962.
One of the premier drama programs of the Golden Age of Radio, was subtitled radio's outstanding theater of thrills and focused on suspense thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors of the era. Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 are extant.
Suspense went through several major phases, characterized by different hosts, sponsors, and director/producers. Formula plot devices were followed for all but a handful of episodes: the protagonist was usually a normal person suddenly dropped into a threatening or bizarre situation; solutions were withheld until the last possible second; and evildoers were usually punished in the end.
In its early years, the program made only occasional forays into science fiction and fantasy. Notable exceptions include adaptations of Curt Siodmak's Donovan's Brain and H. P. Lovecraft's The Dunwich Horror, but by the late 1950s, such material was regularly featured.
The familiar opening phrase tales well-calculated to... was satirized by Mad as the cover blurb Tales Calculated to Drive You... Mad on its first issue (October--November 1952) and continuing until issue #23 (May 1955).
Radio comedians Bob and Ray had a recurring routine lampooning the show, with stories that were presented as dramatic but were intentionally mundane, entitled Tales calculated to put you in a state of... Apathy!
