Circus Circus is a hotel, 123,928 sq ft (11,513.3 m2) casino, and RV park located on the Las Vegas Strip. It is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International.
Circus Circus was opened on October 18, 1968 by Jay Sarno and Stanley Mallin. Architects Rissman and Rissman Associates designed a giant circus tent shaped main structure, which was built by R.C. Johnson Construction of Las Vegas. Circus Circus is the largest permanent big top in the world.
Lucky The Clown marquee at the entrance was constructed in 1976.
At its opening, the $15 million facility only included a casino. The lack of a hotel resulted in financial problems, as the casino was not able to attract high rollers.
In 1974, ownership changed with the sale of the casino to William Bennett and William Pennington for $25 million. The facility was expanded with hotel tower additions in 1972, 1980, 1985, 1986 and 1996.
Circus Circus subsequently developed the Excalibur in 1990, the Luxor in 1993 and the Mandalay Bay in 1999 for which the group was renamed.
On June 4, 2004, one of Mandalay Resort Group's largest competitors, MGM Mirage, announced a bid to acquire Mandalay. The two completed the merge on April 26, 2005.
Circus Circus features circus acts and carnival type games daily on the Midway. The Midway was featured in the 1971 James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever.

I'm pretty sure that was piss that I stepped in! It didn't smell like it though. These elevators are super vandalized and ride sort of rough. They used to be OTIS Lexans but were modernized by Dover with EPCO SSL. Boooooo! It's always freezing in these for some reason. I think they blast the air conditioner despite the time of the year cause in the winter, it's still blasting cold air. When I posted a video of these elevators last year, it got a lot of hits, and it's obvious people like these things. Well, I DON'T! Also, gotta love those sick bells!

Felix Silla was born on January 11, 1937 in a small village outside Rome, Italy. Silla trained as a circus performer, came to the United States in 1955, and toured with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Show. His multiple talents -- as a bareback rider, trapeze artist and tumbler -- brought him to Hollywood where he became a stuntman, starting with the Gig Young-Shirley Jones vehicle, A Ticklish Affair (1963). His best-known roles are the maniacal, miniature Hitler who menaces George Segal in The Black Bird (1975) and Cousin Itt on the long-running TV series, The Addams Family (1964). He had doubled--often for children--in such hits as The Towering Inferno (1974), The Hindenburg (1975) and Battlestar Galactica (1978). Between movies, he frequently appears in Las Vegas and Reno night clubs with his own musical combo, The Original Harmonica Band. Silla and wife Sue Silla -- a little person, like himself -- have been married since 1965 and have two children, Bonnie and Michael.

10 The Human Chandelier
During a Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus show in Providence, Rhode Island, an act called the Human Chandelier was performed. In May 2014 the apparatus which was holding them by their hair fell to the ground from approximately 35 feet. All of the performers later decided to sue the circus. Later that year, in November, the circus was fined $7,000, the maximum allowed. An investigation led by the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health revealed it occurred because the carabiner supporting the acrobats was improperly loaded.
9 Irem Shrine Circus
In April 2010, while preparing for a show in Pennsylvania, animal handler Andrew Anderton from the Irem Shrine Circus was kicked by the star of the act: an African elephant. Initial reports indicated that the elephant named Dumbo had been startled by an electrical wire, and Anderton was trying to get it away from the wire.
8 The Flying Wallendas
The circus act known as the seven person chair pyramid was invented by a family nicknamed ‘The Flying Wallendas’. The stunt required seven people to balance on top of each other, while the person on top of the pyramid would sit in a chair, as the one at the bottom would tread cautiously over a tight rope. The seven members of the family used to perform the act in the 1950s up until January, 1962, allowing people outside the family to participate as well.
7 Roy Horn
Lion tamer Roy Horn worked on one of the most successful shows in Las Vegas. The day of October 3 2003, started as a day of celebration but ended as a bad for the stuntman. Forty-five minutes of the show had passed when he brought in a 380-pound white tiger named Montecore.
6 Otto Kline
One of the most exciting acts in the Barnum & Bailey Circus during the 1910s belonged to a man named Otto Kline. In April 1915, 28 years old Kline was performing his usual stunt at the Madison Square Garden. This involved him circling the arena on a horse and then swinging from side to side with his feet touching the ground while he still held on to his saddle. Unfortunately, on his last performance, Kline lost the grip of the saddle and was flung against a wooden box head first.
5 Eva Garcia
In August 2003, hundreds of people were clapping in excitement while attending a show at the Hippodrome Circus in Great Yarmouth, England. Eva Garcia, an aerial performer, had just made her entrance. Eva had been performing since the age of seven and was now 38. She was doing her usual show with aerial silks, in which she had to cling to lengths of cloth suspended from the ceiling at a height of approximately 30 ft. However, only a couple of minutes into the act, Garcia appeared to lose her grip on the wire above her head and plunged to the ground.
4 Massarti
On January 3, 1872, lion tamer Thomas Macarte also known as Massarti, performed his act for the last time. Massarti had been the star attraction of the Mander’s Menagerie circus that was taking place in the Bolton marketplace in Lancashire, England. As the evening drew to a close, at approximately 10:30 pm, the unthinkable happened. Massarti was driving five felines from one end of the cage to the other. That’s when one of the lions ran against his legs, throwing him to the ground. He got up quickly and proceeded to drive the animals into the corner.
3 Sarah Guyard-Guillot
Paris-born Sarah Guyard-Guillot began her circus career in childhood. She studied at the Annie Fratellini Art & Circus Academy in Paris, France, and after she graduated, she began working as an acrobat and aerialist. In 2006, she joined the cast of a Cirque du Soleil show called Kà that played at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
2 Matthew Cranch
Matthew Cranch was a thrill-seeker, as his friends described him, and at 24, he decided to turn his passion into a job. In April 2011, he joined the stunt team at Cornwall based Stunts UK Ltd. and started work as a human ball. Approximately four weeks into the job, Cranch had already performed the showpiece five times. However, the sixth would be his final performance.
1 Dessi Espana
Dessi Espana was a Bulgarian-American aerial acrobat who will forever remain in the history of circus acts. Espana came from a family of performers and even held a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, after swirling 75 silver hoops simultaneously around her body at 13. In May 2004, at 32, Espana was performing during a Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus show in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. As she always did, Espana was twirling on long chiffon scarves with no net below her.
