修道院周辺は、たいへん霊的で、癒され、安らぎます。

Today, I am excited to be going on an outing with two of my friends who are Japanese. They are taking me to a shrine and a Trappistine Convent, and then to the Hakodate Botanical Gardens where we will see snow monkeys from the surrounding mountains as they frolic in the waters from the nearby hot spring. Come along with me and see what I learned from them about the Japanese culture.

시내 유노카와 지구에는 트라피스틴 수도원이 있다. 1898년 프랑스에서 파견된 8명의 수녀들이 세운 수녀원으로, 홋카이도 가톨릭 역사의 출발점이다. 지금의 건물은 화재로 인해 1927년에 다시 지었는데, 단아하고 이국적인 멋을 풍긴다. 일본에서는 기독교 비중이 낮아 수도원이 드문 탓일까. 많은 관광객들이 찾아오고 특히 가톨릭 신자에게는 성지 같은 곳이다. 신자는 아니지만 나 역시 마음이차분해지고 경건해진다.

Northern Japan 5 - Hakodate
This is the fifth video of a trip thru northern Japan. For one day we stayed in Hakodate to see the fish market, the Trappistine Convent, the star shaped Goryokaku fort, the foreign cemetries and the Old Public Hall. In the evening we enjoyed the marvelous view of Hakodate from mount Hakodate.

Hakodate By Bus and Streetcar

After yesterday's rain, we were back to good weather today. We used our bus pass to see the sites we had missed so far. After breakfast at Four Points by Sheraton, we took a bus to the Trappist convent, and on the way back stopped at Goryokaku Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. We caught the only daytime “climbing bus” up Mount Hakodate, which was covered in cloud most of the time so visibility was limited.
We took the sightseeing bus to Motomachi, with its British heritage buildings, then back to Goryokaku to see the remains of the old fort.
At night we went back up the mountain, now packed with tourists, to get beautiful views of the lights of Hakodate.
