Start to a 3 week tour of Sri Lanka, Negombo beach & Fish Market
This is the start to a three week tour of Sri Lanka, our flight was from Manchester to Doha then onto Bandaranaike international airport Colombo.
Spent two nights in Negombo, we arrived late afternoon, in the morning started a walk along the beach then off to visit the fish market - where we watched the
local people preparing, selling and drying fish.
Our hotel was called The Holiday Fashion Inn, which was amazing, see our review on Tripadvisor below.
Next stop Dambulla for four nights; we visited the sunset rocks, Sigiriya, Cave Temple, Jeep safari at Minneriya National Park and the ancient city of Polonnaruwa.

City Description:
Negombo is a city on the west coast of Sri Lanka, north of the capital, Colombo. Near the waterfront, the remains of the 17th-century Dutch Fort now house a prison. Negombo Lagoon, lined with fishermen’s huts, feeds into the Dutch-era Hamilton Canal. The canal leads south to Colombo. Neoclassical St. Mary’s Church, completed in the 1920s, features a ceiling decorated with vivid religious paintings.Angurukaramulla Temple is known for its large Buddha statue, colorful murals and entrance shaped like a dragon's mouth. Just north of the city, Negombo Beach is lined with coconut trees and mangroves. It offers opportunities for diving, with coral reefs and a 20th-century shipwreck offshore. Local fishermen sell their catches directly on the beach and at the fish market nearby. Southeast of the city, Henarathgoda Botanical Gardens is filled with rubber trees and tropical plants from around the world.
Weather and Events:
Negombo has a tropical climate with high temperatures year-round. The drier months (Jan–Mar) are the peak period for visitors. During the Fisherman’s Festival (Jul), local fishermen haul in and display their catch.

My last day in Sri Lanka I stayed in Negombo close to the airport. I walked about and had a look at the town and beach.

I'm so excited to be in Sri Lanka, an island paradise just south of India. Sri Lanka is home to some delicious food, rich culture and exciting wildlife. I can't wait to share with you my 10-day journey around the south of this beautiful island.
One thing I can say for sure is that 10 days just isn't long enough to explore the island! I felt like I only had a fleeting glimpse of what Sri Lanka has to offer. I know I'll be back!
In this first episode we arrive at our accommodation in Negombo, just a 20 minute drive from the airport. Our AirBnb is surrounded by lush gardens filled with fresh fruit!
