Discover Wisconsin Showcases CAMBA Mountain Bike Trails | Mountain Biking Wisconsin Trails
Discover Wisconsin host Stephanie Klett (now Wisconsin Secretary of Tourism) joins Ron Bergin, Jeff Jackson and John Leighton for an autumn visit to the CAMBA mountain bke trails near Hildebrand Lake in Hayward, Wisconsin & Cable, Wisconsin.
The CAMBA trails lie in and around the beautiful Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest as well as in Bayfield and Sawyer County Forests - nearly a million acres in which to ride your fat tire bike
Of this, CAMBA has adopted an area of approximately 1,600 square miles. The system is divided into six sub-systems, known as clusters, each with one or more trailheads. An overview area map of the entire system indicating the location of each cluster as well as other rideable gravel and on-road paved routes is available. More detailed maps of each cluster with trail routes are also available at area trail heads, bike shops, chambers of commerce or directly from CAMBA.

CAMBA's user-friendly system is designed to encourage off-road bicyclists to enjoy and explore the Chequamegon Area. Trail markings include frequent reassurance markers, intersection - You Are Here - maps and a corresponding landmark number and at the trail heads a signboard with a You Are Here cluster map and dispenser.
In addition, CAMBA has undertaken several novel educational programs including CAMBA Kids - an introduction to off-road bicycling for young cyclists and Finding the Rhythm of the Trail - an adult oriented program to teach the basics of singletrack trail riding.
CAMBA takes its responsibility as a steward of the environment very seriously and is committed to sustainable trail development - trails that will withstand years of regular use without degrading or promoting erosion. All new trails are designed and constructed to International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) standards.
Each CAMBA cluster is comprised of 40 - 100 miles of trail. Trail clusters are located in the communities of Cable, Delta, Drummond, Hayward, Namakagon and Seeley. The routes follow a variety of paths, including logging roads, fire lanes, snowmobile and ski trails, double track and extensive singletrack trails. The terrain lends itself to riders of all abilities, from beginners to seasoned fat tire experts. There are no paved bike paths in the system.
As you explore the CAMBA system, you will ride through rolling terrain dotted with lakes, rivers, streams, ridges and meadows carved by glaciers during the last ice age. The entire system is heavily wooded and wildlife is plentiful. It's not unusual to sight deer, bear, porcupine, bald eagles and a wide assortment of other forest animals. Wildflowers bloom from late May through the summer. From June through September, berry picking - wild strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries - can add a tasty diversion to your tour. The fall colors begin in late August and reach their splendid peak near the end of September and early October. Most trails in the system are rideable from May through November - almost seven months of fat tire fun!
Several area bike shops close to CAMBA trails offer bike sales and rentals, clothing, accessories and repairs as well as trail riding recommendations. The Chequamegon Area is an outdoor recreation paradise that welcomes visitors year round. Northwest Wisconsin is home of the American Birkebeiner, Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival and the Firehouse 50 - an area that welcomes off-road cyclists with open arms.

ABOUT THIS FEED:
Ashland, VA, in Central Virginia, is located on the CSX RF&P Subdivision, the former Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad, and is about 15 miles north of Richmond. The town gets over 20 Amtrak passenger trains and 20-25+ CSX freight trains daily. It’s a designated quiet zone, but the crew can use the horns at their discretion. The maximum speed for trains passing through the town's center is 35 miles per hour (MPH).
There are 3 cameras available. The default camera is an Axis 360 located on top of the Visitor’s Center (train station), and 2 static cameras facing North and South on the other side of the intersection. Desktop users can use the suitcase icon at the bottom of the video to toggle between cams. For other devices, you can access the static cams with the links above.
See Tiny Tim’s Trains and Toys Store on the south cam? It's awesome, and worth a visit. Tell Suzanne and crew we said hello!
There is no ATCS layout (and no server coverage) available for the RF&P Sub, as it does not use radio code line (RCL) for switch-and-signal control (RCL is essential for ATCS availability).
There is a radio feed available, listening to the CSX RF&P Sub (BD dispatcher) and Richmond Terminal (FB dispatcher) channels, as well as the Buckingham Branch Railroad's (BBRR) Piedmont Sub channel (which crosses the RF&P Sub at a diamond in Doswell, to the north of Ashland):
A second radio feed providing the Richmond Terminal channel, as well as those for both the North End and Bellwood Subs, can be found here (select the Richmond Area Stream):
When’s the next train? Yeah, we get this a lot. You can figure out the next Amtrak passenger train with this handy link:
There’s no schedule for freight trains, but some of our more knowledgeable members will provide real-time information when it’s available. Please refrain from asking.

Alpine Valley - Mountain / Fat Biking 7/22/2015
Alpine Valley is a great 6.5 mile trail with a lot of nice climbs, some quick downhills with berms and other features. It's located on the Alpine Valley resort in southeastern Wisconsin. I rode the whole trail on my fatbike and after about an hour I was exhausted! Definitely worth a visit and the $2 it costs to ride.

In 2014, a new segment of the Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST) removed two miles from a road walk along busy U.S. Hwy. 331. The new trail is in the forest, making it a safer and more scenic route.
The expanded trail route stretches for two miles north of Owl's Head Rd. The south end is a trailhead on the west side of Hwy 331 where the trail crosses the highway to the east. This junction is 9.2 miles south of I-10 and 5.2 miles north of SR 20, Freeport. The north end is on the west side of US 331 at Eglin Range Rd. 205, which is Segrest Rd. on Google map. Google Earth's label is Co Hwy 282 AKA Site C-6 Cutoff. The intersection sign says Eglin Site C6. See maps page: Or wholeo.net trail page:

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Platteville (#712)
[Latest Airdate: July 12, 2018]
[Original Airdate: April 5, 2018]
In the southwest corner of Wisconsin you will find a city that is symbolized and memorialized with largest M in the world --- Platteville! Huh? Why not a big P? Turns out that the M is for mining which is how this city came to be.
Platteville's past is truly interesting, but it's the present that made memories for John. He played sheepshead, pitched horseshoes, thought about climbing to the top of the M, visited an Amish tobacco farm, toured the most beautiful mansion in town while talking to a parrot, ate gooseberry pie at the Owl Café, and envied Kip as he flew his PPC (Powered Para Chute). AND, John met Tud - completely Wundoemus!
By the time we left Platteville, John completely embraced the M, which he said is his stamp of approval on this wonderful town. Approved (and loved) by McGivern!
