ON THE ROAD...TULSA AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM & PLANETARIUM

TULSA AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM-THE GATHERING PLACE-TULSA, OK-EP30
Sue is absolutely the best woman an engineer could be married to! After almost 2 years of travel, I am STILL dragging her to science museums, and she STILL reads all the placards, tries the interactive displays, studies how things work and then discusses them with me during the lunch she made and packed for us! WOW!
This video is a quick one of us visiting the Tulsa Air, Space and Planetarium. We specifically came to Tulsa, OK for the Tulsa National Motor Speedway Nitro Dragster semi-finals, but due to rain, it was cancelled. We came anyway and were pleasantly surprised on how much we love this city. We actually stayed 10 days in Tulsa kicking around.
While biking in near the downtown area, we came across The Gathering Place.” It's a dynamic, interactive, recreational and relaxation public park of enormous scope and vision. We found it while biking and decided to return on foot.
It is a privately funded park that is open to the public, for free. Phase #1 opened in Sept 2018 and cost 70 million of the 430 million dollars actually donated to the parks trust fund. This phase is 66 acres. Phases #2 & #3 are to come, and will increase the final acreage to 100.
The George Kaiser Family Foundation donated 400 million. He took over the Kaiser Oil Company in the 60s and bought the Bank of Oklahoma in the 90s. I love it when people truly spread around the love and fortune they acquired to be enjoyed by the many!
Our quick video here does not do the park justice.

OETA story on military fly-in at Tulsa Air and Space Museum aired on 08/07/09.
This is a story that aired on OETA Public Television's The Oklahoma News Report in Tulsa Oklahoma as reported by Cathy Tatom and photojournalist Tim Carson. For more information or to contact us, please go to the new and improved oeta.tv The verbatim script follows below...
IT'S NOT EVERY DAY YOU SEE A NAVY E-6 TACAMO DOING TOUCH AND GOES BEHIND THE TULSA AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM.
BUT TODAY'S SPECIAL.
THE BIG JET IS PART OF THE OKLAHOMA DEFENDER DAYS FLY-IN.
IT'S AN EVENT DESIGNED TO GIVE OKLAHOMANS A CHANCE TO THANK OUR STATE'S ACTIVE DUTY AND RETIRED MILITARY PERSONNEL FOR THEIR SERVICE.
BY THE WAY, TACAMO STANDS FOR TAKE CHARGE AND MOVE OUT.
IT'S A SUPPORT AIRCRAFT FOR THE NAVY'S NUCLEAR BALLISTIC MISSILE SUBMARINE FORCE AND IS BASED IN OKLAHOMA CITY.
Jim Bridenstine/Tulsa Air & Space Museum: A lot of the airplanes that flew in today with the Oklahoma Defender Days Fly-In are airplanes that are from the State of Oklahoma, military units that serve in the State of Oklahoma.
Rachel Collins/Space Camper: I like the helicopters.
MANY OF THE AIRCRAFT CAME IN WITH THEIR PILOTS AND OTHER PERSONNEL FROM VANCE AND TINKER AIR FORCE BASES IN OKLAHOMA CITY AND ENID.
THERE ARE ALSO NAVAL AIRCRAFT AND PILOTS FROM OKLAHOMA CITY...
THEY'RE SHOWING OFF AIRCRAFT LIKE THIS T-45 TRAINER.
We drop bombs, we land on aircraft carriers, and we do dog fighting with it.
LT. COMMANDER JUSTIN LEWIS IS EXCITED TO HAVE KIDS SEE WHAT THE NAVY FLIES.
Lt. Cmdr Justin Lewis/Navy Pilot: It's a rare glimpse to see something up close for a lot of these kids.
HE ALSO WANTS TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO GET THE EDUCATION NECESSARY TO BECOME OKLAHOMA'S NEXT GENERATION TO CLIMB INTO THE COCKPIT.
Rachel Collins/Space Camper: I might want to be one when I grow up.
Lt. Cmdr Justin Lewis/Navy Pilot: I wanna teach them that stuff like math and sciences and technologies are so important so pay attention to those especially if they wanna do something like this.
Roman Rushing/Space Camper: The math is easy and the science is very easy.
This event continues tomorrow so you still have time to come out try on the cockpit see if it fits and maybe even inspire your kids to grow up to be pilots. At the Tulsa Air & Space Museum, The Oklahoma News Report.

????WATCH NEXT: Part 9 of our road trip travel series:
???? HUGE SLIDE MADE OF TAPE | Tulsa Children's Museum: Discovery Labs ⚙️ [Tulsa, OK] | LaneVids - On our family summer road trip 2016, we're in Tulsa, OK and we stop at the Tulsa' Children's Museum to slide down a HUGE TAPE SLIDE!
Occasionally, we take our kids to children's museums when we are traveling and the weather is yucky outside. Today it was raining, so we decided to go to the Tulsa Children's Museum: Discovery Labs.
This is basically a huge 2 room building with many spaces for kids to play, learn and explore. They had a Maker room where you could test your engineering skills with huge pieces of wood, bolts, nuts and screws.
They had a discovery room with so many different hands on projects, such as:
- painting with light project
- stacking projects
- magnet area with iron filings and ferro fluid
- electricity project station with hand crank generator, battery and more
- huge light bright
- spiralgraph
- marble run
- and so much more
In the main play room they had a Huge Slide that is all made out of tape! They used 1000s of rolls of tape to create this huge slide in the children's museum.
Also in the play area they had other science activities for kids such as:
- Angry birds slingshot
- build a bridge
- build an arch
- build huge blocks to learn about measurement
- putting together pipes
They also had a Toddler play area with a ball pit, ball suction thing, strings for motor skills, and a whole lot more.
We went with my wife, myself, our son (3), our daughter (5), and my sister in law (15). We all had fun, so you can definitely bring the whole family for a good time here and made for a fun things to do in Tulsa. Best of all, it's only $6 per person.
Also outside of the Children's museum is a huge beautiful Tulsa park with a pond, huge grassy area, playground and picnic areas.
What is the best children's museum that you have ever been to Thanks for watching! Don't forget to give us a THUMBS UP, and click the bell button so that you never miss any of our videos!

Greg's memory Lives on at the Tulsa Air & Space Museum
In September of 1999, my little brother passed away at the age of 14 from complications of leukemia. His dream was to be an astronaut. In December of 1999 my brother was buried into space on the Millennial Flight by a company called Celestis.
The Tulsa Air & Space Museum opened up an exhibit in honor of my brother and the fact that he was the first Oklahoman to be buried in space.
I have been trying to find footage of the launch and came across a news video from the museums opening.
You can visit the Celestis website @
Here you can find out more about space burial.

45th Infantry Museum
A spectacular collection of military artifacts is housed at the 45th Infantry Division Museum in Oklahoma City. Exhibits in the museum present these fascinating objects to narrate the military history of Oklahoma's own 45th Infantry Division of the National Guard, also known as the Thunderbirds. The museum highlights other aspects of American military history as well. Outside on the grounds of the 45th Infantry Division Museum is Thunderbird Park. Some of the larger artifacts of Oklahoma's military history are located there, including tanks, aircraft and large guns.
