Discover Sicily Like a Local
Wine tasting in Tuscany is an incredible experience, in this adventure we were taken to 3 organic wineries and served a delicious over the top yummy lunch that I'll never forget - it was a true testimony to buying and eating local -- plus 12 glasses of wine later, and I feel like I drank all of Tuscany.

Traveling in Tuscany: The Best Wine Tasting & Wine Tours - Wine Oh TV
Wine Oh TV's Monique Soltani is Traveling in Tuscany and shows us the Best Wine Tasting and Wine Tours in the Italian Wine Region.
This is the second video of a three part video series I'm producing which highlights my recent trip to Tuscany. In my first video, Traveling in Tuscany: Uncorking Chianti Classico, we learned what Chianti Classico IS. Now it's time to introduce you to some of the amazing men and women behind the bottle. Traveling in Tuscany: Wine Tasting & Tours gets up close and personal with the kings and queens of wine country who roll out the ruby red wine carpet in our honor.
If the royal treatment wets your appetite, then meeting the Marquis of Tuscany should make you salivate. We get a taste of their intoxicating blends as we hold court at the new Marchesi Antinori Chianti Classico Cellar, go off-roading at Castello d'Albola and wine with Conte Sebastiano Capponi of Villa Calcinaia and Francesco Mazzei of Marchesi Mazzei.

Tuscany; San Gimignano, Siena, Florence & Casa Emma Winery
Tuscany: San Gimignano, Siena, Florence & Casa Emma Winery
Our shared moments, tips and recommendations.
Agenda: 8am pick up at SM Novella then to Siena, San Gimignano and lunch and wine tasting at winery. Self-guided but the driver gave us recommendations. 8 hour tour. After reviewing numerous quotes I used and very happy with All Tuscany Tours
First stop Siena. Without a clear plan we walked around seeing the sites taking photos, beautiful! However, honestly it wasn’t as interesting as our next stop...
San Gimignano “Towers of Powers” The village famous for its world’s culture in architecture, arts and natural heritage of this Unesco protected town. It was founded like a small Etruscan village, then developed greatly during the Middle Ages thanks to pilgrims on their way from the west France to Rome as it was placed on the Via Francigena. It is one of the nicest well kept intact medieval towns in Italy known for the 14 medieval towers, the remainder of 72 towers San Gimignano’s patrician families had built as symbols of wealth and power.
•Best Gelato I’ve ever tried! Gelateria dell'olmo
Wineries
•Casa Emma We had an incredible wine tasting and lunch experience at here. Coming from California, I can say this is the best and most generous tasting. The lunch was a blend of Michelin Star quality and traditional Italian. I purchased 18 bottles (€30-€89) to be shipped, shipping and the €100 lunch and wine tasting thrown in.
•Tunta Casanova
•Antinori Vineyards
•Agriturismo Fattoria Sant'Appiano
Florence
Quickest - Take high speed 80 minute Frecciarossa train from Rome Termini to Firenze Santa Maria Novella, nearest the market and best First Class (Executive) seats or Firenze Campo Di Marte (Both are near city Florence center) €60-€160 RT
By Car from Rome - 200 miles in just over 3 hours with no stops, but that would be a sin if you didn’t stop! With stops I would plan 6 hours, at least.
Can stay a night or head back same day. Easily done. Either train station is super close walking distance to the center city and all the sites. I usually stop at the huge Central Market market nearby first for a snack.
Airbnb’s seem a better deal and pretty cool there at ($100-200/NT) of course tons of hotels. Check Airbnb experiences for unique activities. I’ve had a lot of luck with those I’ve purchased.
Leather goods is a great souvenir from Florence. After looking at many options throughout the city, we found a great quality soft leather duffle at I Medici
Food
Mercato Centrale Firenze - 08a-12a
I bring back cheese, olive oil, balsamic and sun-dried tomatoes. They also offer some cool cooking classes upstairs in the food court area.
10 minute walk from the SM Novella train station. It is surrounded by an open market selling leather goods etc. Food court location in 2nd floor open until midnight.
1st floor market, which closes around 3pm.
•Perini - High-quality salami, prosciutto, and other cold-cuts, plus gourmet cheese and panini (sandwiches) to go. Free samples (size of your head) samples of cheese and meats. Really, the samples were enough for lunch for us.
•La Pasta Fresca di Raimondo Mendolia, Pick your fresh made pasta & pick your sauce for a mix-and-match option. Simple but really good, had of the best bolognese I’ve ever tried.
Restaurants
•Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco - Super cute. Romantic, charming and small. Raviolis!! The pumpkin ravioli available in the winter is alone worth a trip to Florence.
•La Giostra - Free appetizer sampler, That Burrata with Honey, Walnuts, and Fig Jam, pasta sampler, and Balsamic filet. Amazing!
•Acqua al 2 - The place with the plates, free appetizer sampler, 5 course pasta tasting, and amazing Balsamic and their Blueberry Filet blew my mind, so good!
•La Reggia degli Etruschi (On my list to go) 20 minutes by Uber. Raving reviews on all travel platforms

ITALIAN NONNA Food Market Sulmona & Montepulciano Wine Tour
Day 4: Italy Unexplored
Visit to an organic market, local lunch on a private terrace and an exclusive visit to Zaccagnini winery for a seafood aperitivo to drool over at sunset with wine tasting by the bottle...
As the excursion in Abruzzo continues, we step into a beautiful old town oozing with history and famous not only for a rebellious Pope but also an interesting romance poet not to mention home to one of the most organic and oldest markets in Italy. First stop after strolling through the larger than life gate facing Naples is to the number one Porchetta stand in Italy. Seriously, number ONE. Here we get a taste of the moist pork and no matter the time, guests flocked over it for more.
We then visit many a Nonna who have spent years selling their fresh produce here, including dried herbs in recycled jars, and there's an overwhelming feeling that we wish we all had this in our own backyards with products quickly shown off by the locals.
Lunch is a sight for sore eyes upon the terrace of the number 2 B&B in Italy which is tucked away and shows off all three mountains of the green Abruzzo region. A 360degree view that will last a lifetime with food prepared by the owner and her mamma - all ingredients sourced right in the town.
As we head to Zaccagnini winery and most think there's wine tasting by the glass, we arrive to a warm welcome and get a sneak peek behind he scenes of their production, finding out more about the famous twig that adorns each bottle.
The day ends with fresh seafood tastings prepared and served by Vincenzo's Dad Paolo while the sun sets over the hectares of land taken up by lushes vines and we dance and drink the night away sharing bottle after bottle of incredible wine, carefully curated by masters... spontaneous dancing then followed dinner and we really never wanted to leave...

Antinori's Super Tuscan Vineyards | Toscana Italia | Tuscany Italy
Rinuccio di Antinoro is recorded as making wine at the Castello di Combiate near the Tuscan town of Calenzano in 1180. The castello was destroyed in 1202, and the family moved to Florence, where they were involved in silk weaving and banking. In 1385, Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Guild of Winemakers, and this is the date usually taken as the start of the wine business.
The fame of their wine expanded over the years, to the extent that in 1506 they could afford to pay 4,000 florins for the Palazzo Antinori, built for the Boni family in the 1460s. At this time, Alessandro Antinori was one of the richest men in Florence, but like many Florentines he was soon bankrupted by the ravages of Charles V of Spain and the economic effect of his New World gold. Nonetheless the family prospered in the ensuing peace and gained the title of Marquis from the House of Habsburg-Lorraine in the 18th century.
The only unfortunate episode of the family happened with Bernardino Antinori, who in the second half of the 16th century had a relationship with Dianora di Toledo, wife of Pietro de' Medici and son of Cosimo I. Pietro, who was known at the time for his brutality and dishonesty, discovered the relationship between the Antinori and his wife, which he accused of adultery and strangled her with a dog leash in July 1576 at the Villa Medici at Cafaggiolo. Bernardino was then arrested and killed in prison, for this reason Pietro was later exiled in Spain by his father Cosimo I.
In 1900, Piero Antinori bought several vineyards in the Chianti Classico region, including 47 hectares at Tignanello. His son Niccolò scandalised Tuscany in 1924 by making a Chianti containing Bordeaux grape varieties. He continued to experiment over the following years, with new blends, types of barrel, temperature control and bottle ageing. Niccolò retired in 1966, to be replaced by his son Piero who was even more innovative. He investigated early harvesting of white grapes, different types of barrique, stainless steel vats and malolactic fermentation of red wines. The real revolution came in 1971, with the launch of Tignanello, a barrique-aged wine from the eponymous vineyard that contained Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, which meant that it was ineligible for the Chianti Classico appellation, also from 1975 the blend contained no white grapes. Technically Tignanello was not the first 'Super Tuscan' - that honour goes to Sassicaia, created by a relative of the Antinoris, the Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta - even though the Antinoris were experimenting with Cabernet blends since the 1920s. But it was Tignanello that really shook up the Italian wine industry, leading to far-reaching changes in rules and attitudes. However, even though the Chianti Classico DOCG rules have now been changed to accommodate wines such as Tignanello, the Antinoris continue to sell it as a Toscana IGT wine. Emboldened by the success of the 20% Bordeaux blend Tignanello, in 1978 Antinori launched the 80% Cabernet Solaia, from the neighbouring vineyard.
Antinori responded to the inflation of the 1980s and 1990s with a frantic programme of investment in wineries and vineyards, most notably the Atlas Peak winery in California in 1985, and 325 hectares around Badia a Passignano in 1987. They also expanded into Piedmont, Puglia, and set up joint ventures in Bátaapáti Hungary, Stag's Leap and Col Solare in USA, Malta, Romania and Chile. The video also features a quick view of Volterra. All footage shot with DJI Inspire1 Pro

The Best Place to Stay in Tuscany. Castello Banfi - Il Borgo
Castello Banfi Il Borgo is an 18th-century farmers village that was born around the medieval Banfi Castle in Tuscany Italy. The village (in Italian “Il Borgo”) has been restored and transformed into a luxury resort, and is part of a 7,100-acre property where high-quality red wines are produced (brunello di montalcino). The hotel's 14 rooms and suites reflect this heritage, and each is named after one of the bottles produced by Banfi.

Tuscany's Dolce Vita
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | Tuscany offers a dolce vita mix of hearty cuisine, fascinating history, and gentle beauty. First we'll learn about the original Tuscans — the ancient Etruscans — at Volterra's Etruscan Museum, then we'll tour a hill town that was important to both the Etruscans and the Romans, head into the woods for a truffle hunt, eat slow food Italian-style during Sunday lunch in Chiusure, and finish in Montepulciano, where we'll get passionate about the local wine.
