Pub Lunch Episode 2 - The Courthouse Hotel Murwillumbah
I visit the location of Australia's biggest ever, and unsolved, bank robbery at Murwillumbah in Northern NSW.
I check out Lion's Lookout, visit the regional museum, take a walk along the historic Main Street and visit the bank where the daring heist occurred.
I then find myself at The Courthouse Hotel for a excellent country pub lunch with fresh ingredients and a nice cold beer, the local brew Volcano Lager.

River of Life was developed in conjunction with the Tweed River Regional Museum as part of the Arts Northern Rivers 'Rivers, Roads and Rail Regional Exhibition Trail. John 'Carl' Palmer recalls life at the Tweed Pilot Station where his father was stationed during the 1940s.

Ben Quilty is one of Australia's most talented and respected young artists of his generation. In 2011 Ben travelled to Afghanistan as the Australian War Memorial's official war artist. This exhibition features new work made from this experience and the close relationship he formed with his subjects.

Aarlsborg Danish Cemetary PART 1.- Hervey Bay Australia

Produced and Filmed by Keri McInerney Thanx to: Bonnie Sivyer; The Hervey Bay Historical Society and The Aarlsborg Danish Community and Cemetary. This video clip shows the The Aarlsborg Cemetary, which was the developed after a former Danish settlement, (Nikenbah (Aarlsborg)) began. The settlement was situated on the Hervey Bay Road, about halfway between Maryborough and Pialba. The first christian church in the area was built by Danish settlers, and opened in 1875 and the cemetary then came into being. The first burial was that of Jons Johnson, a timbergetter, killed by a falling limb, he was buried in the churchyard 15th September, 1877. The cemetery ground was surrendered to the Burrum Shire Council in 1918. A commemorative cairn now marks the site of the early church. The video shows all of the remaining headstones and graves. Some are unmarked, but the history of the area, its settlers and its development all lay in the grounds of this cemetary. Interesting headstone iconology can also be viewed in this clip, and interestingly it is very similar to most European Iconolgy. After a very profitable cedar getting period, Casino became a major beef centre which necessitated the development of a railway to cart beef both north and south to Brisbane and Sydney.

Roslyn Oakes interest in art started at a very young age, drawing and creating things from bits and pieces as soon as she was able to hold a pencil or use a pair of scissors. From the age of five or six she wanted to be an artist, by six or seven she became interested in paper dolls, making her own and designing their clothes, this developed into an interest in dress designing. Roslyn often designed and made her own clothes.
After her children had grown Roslyn Oakes decided to pursue her interest in art finding art classes available in Murwillumbah taught by Graeme Stevenson our very own host and artist. Classes ran for a short time, but long enough to inspire her to continue. Graeme encouraged Roslyn to continue and when hungry for more classes and opportunities she headed to the Caldera Art Gallery where she met Andy Remanis (Another CIYL Alumni) and other like minded people and was invited to help with the Green Cauldren Panorama, a three hundred and sixty degree painting of The Tweed area encompassing the entire caldera, which took a total of twelve months to complete.
Roslyn Oakes life has been enriched by art enjoying pastel, acrylic and oil mediums. She likes to paint anything that catches her eye, but is particularly inspired by the native flora and fauna of the Murwillumbah region and quite often depicts these images in her paintings. She also enjoys painting portraits of her grandchildren and when she has the chance enjoys life drawing with both charcoal and ink.
Roslyn Oakes enjoys entering art competitions and has won numerous prizes ranging from framers choice, peoples choice, 2nd, 3rd, highly commended and overall winner. Roslyn worked with Graeme Stevenson with Paint Your Life Foundation, both in a teaching and fundraising capacity and ran art classes at Heritage Lodge Nursing Home with the residents which she found very rewarding. It is amazing the difference art can make to peoples lives. Roslyn Oakes hopes to do more teaching in the future as anything that involves art and or craft interests her.
Roslyn Oakes advice to anyone thinking of taking up painting is; look for inspiration in your world and what is relevant to you, if you paint what you like or are passionate about your paintings will always be wonderful.

Children of a Generation - Banora Point High School
One Vision Productions is proud to announce our third release in 2018, “Children of a Generation” from the super talented students of Banora Point High School, Northern Rivers, New South Wales.
The mob from Banora Point are celebrating their proud Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture and identity in this Hip hop track produced during an 8-week “Music for Change” workshop with One Vision Productions.
The students invite people from all cultures to gather around the fire and learn of the magic that surrounds us in Bundjalung jugun. Their lyrics weave local Dreamtime yarns and remind us to appreciate the ancient ways which have been passed down from Elders through generations.
The lyrics also remind other young Indigenous people, who are battling with their identity, to stay strong and proud of who they are and how they feel. It can be challenging but nobody has the right to tell you who you are, you know your own truths and the first line of the second verse sums this up perfectly “Doesn’t matter about our skin, still belong in a tribe”.
Ancient languages have been stolen from native speakers, Dreamtime stories have been robbed from future generations and racism & misunderstanding has plagued the lives of many people. The students ask us to come together around the fire to burn off the tension, like a community should, for a more positive future for everyone living in this beautiful nation!

NAIDOC -- Gold Coast Celebrations
Today was a huge day here on the Gold Coast - as it was right around the country - and, of course it continues tonight with the National Naidoc ball and awards ceremony at the Gold Coast convention centre.It all started early here as hundreds marched through the streets of Coolangatta this morning- in a showcase of community solidarity.And for the first time - the Queenslanders joined their New South Wales cousins... And crossed state lines into Bunjalung country.
