The first of many relay events in the Flint area! Good luck, everybody!
Dearborn, Michigan
In the last 12 months the city of Dearborn, MI has been thrown into conflict. A conflict about fear, ideology and identity politics –which has at its heart the central question of what it means to be an American today. Home to the largest mosque in North America, it is a place of apparent contradictions: simultaneously a sleepy affluent suburb and the subject of rumours around ISIS terror cells and sharia law.
This film takes us into the lives of five very different citizens who have been caught in the crossfire, from Muslims to Christians, citizen militias and young university graduates. For all, their American identity is paramount. As they grapple with questions of religion, race and class, do these separate communities have more in common than they realise?

Why Flint residents are still dealing with water worries, 5 years after lead crisis
Since 2014, the city of Flint, Michigan, has been synonymous with tainted water. Five years on, city officials are still struggling to make the water safe for all Flint residents, some of whom wait for hours in line to obtain bottled water instead. Others are facing physical and emotional fallout from exposure to high levels of lead due to corrosion of city pipes. John Yang reports from Flint on what has changed -- and what hasn’t.

CSU police shoot Zikarious Flint twice in the back!
A coroner's report has cast doubt on claims by Columbus State University police that 20-year-old Zikarious Flint turned around to face them when they fatally shot him twice.
The young man had been visiting friends on university campus and was seen sitting in a gazebo adjacent to the North Courtyard 1 apartments, loading a handgun. The police were called and arrived three minutes later. Three officers approached Flint, who gave chase.
According to police, Flint eventually turned with a raised hand, which is when 43-year-old Sgt. Ben Scott fired his gun, hitting Flint twice.
However, a coroner's report has shown that one bullet entered Flint's back and exited from his belly, while a second went through his neck and came out of his mouth, discrediting police claims that Flint had turned.
Witnesses also said that Flint was not carrying a weapon in either hand, raising questions about police motives for the shooting.
Police have since announced that a Glock model 22 .40-caliber pistol with eight rounds in it was found near Flint's body, though details are not clear and whether or not Flint had the weapon on him when he was shot has not been confirmed.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the case and Scott has been put on paid administrative leave.
