Rostock, Germany
We took the train from Warnemunde, Germany to Rostock for no apparent reason, had no clue where we were when we got off the train in Rostock but somehow figured it out on our own and had a nice time.

Rostock, Germany
Rostock, situated on the Warnow river, is the largest city in the north German state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The medieval astronomical clock in Rostock, built in 1472 by Hans Düringer, a clockmaker from Nuremberg, is the only one of its kind still in working condition with its original clockworks.
The clock consists of three partitions:
Top: Apostle-go-round giving an hourly performance of the apostles crossing before Jesus for a blessing before entry into eternal bliss, and the last, Judas, is shut out.
Middle: Clock with daily time, zodiac, moon phases, and month.
Bottom: Calendar, which is valid until 2017.
In the 11th century Polabian Slavs founded a settlement at the Warnow river called Roztoc; the name Rostock is derived from that designation.
The Danish king Valdemar I set the town aflame in 1161. Afterwards the place was settled by German traders.
In 1226, Rostock became the seat of the Lordship of Rostock, which survived for almost a century.
The formerly independent fishing village of Warnemünde at the Baltic Sea became a part of Rostock in 1323, to secure the city's access to the Baltic Sea.
In 1419, one of the earliest universities in Europe, the University of Rostock, was founded.
The strategic location of Rostock provoked the envy of its rivals. Danes and Swedes occupied the city twice, first during the Thirty Years' War (1618–48) and again from 1700 to 1721. Later, the French, under Napoleon, occupied the town for about a decade until 1813.
In the early 1930s, the Nazi Party began to gain among Rostock's voters, many of whom had suffered economic hardship during the 1920s.
During World War II, Rostock was subjected to repeated and increasingly heavy bombing attacks, especially by the British Royal Air Force.
After the war, the city—now in the German Democratic Republic—became East Germany's largest seaport, and the now state-owned shipyards in the district of Warnemünde were expanded.
Today, Rostock and Warnemünde are significant tourist destinations on the Baltic Sea.

Mahn and Ohlerichs Celler, Rostock, Germany: Site of Walter Hallstein's 1939 'Conquest Speech'
On January 23, 1939, Nazi lawyer Walter Hallstein, then Dean of the Faculty of Law and Economics at the University of Rostock, Germany, gave a propaganda speech about the legal restructuring of Europe. His presentation, which may best be characterized as the ‘Conquest Speech’, was part of the war mobilization by the Nazi regime and their corporate partners, the Oil and Drug Cartel IG Farben.
THE TEXT OF THE SPEECH CAN BE FOUND HERE:
The timing of this speech was highly significant. Only ten months prior, on March 12, 1938, the Nazis had annexed Austria. On October 10, 1938 – only 3 months prior to Hallstein’s speech – the Nazis had also annexed the Czech territory of Sudetenland (Bohemia, Moravia) by threatening war if their territorial claim was not fulfilled. At an international conference in Munich, on September 29/30, 1938, Hitler had assured the world that with the annexation of the Sudetenland his territorial claims would be satisfied. Nothing could be further from the truth.
On March 25, 1957, eighteen years after he gave this speech, Hallstein was made one of the 12 'founding fathers' – the original signatories – of the 'Treaty of Rome', the founding document of the Brussels EU, which he had coauthored. The following year, on January 7, 1958, he was appointed as the first president of the so-called European Commission, the executive body of the Brussels EU. He held this post for almost a decade, up until June 30, 1967.

15. The final take away
University of Rostock is one of the best universities to study at, if you want to go to the aeronautical, aerospace, wind energy or ship building field after your Masters. Akshay took out his time and discussed with me, how the title of the course doesn't necessarily has to contain 'Aerospace' or 'Aeronautical' engineering just to allow you entry in those fields. Students can very easily go to those fields with Masters in Computational Science Engineering fields too. Two other preferred courses are Applied Computational Mechanics at TH Ingolstadt and Computational Mechanics of Materials and Structures (COMMAS) at the University of Stuttgart.
Other general fields which you can always enter after any Computational Science Engineering courses related to fluids are:
1. Aerospace Engineering
2. Aeronautical Engineering
3. Wind Engineering
4. Ship Engineering

International Tandem Programme / University of Rostock
This is an introduction to the Tandem Program” administered through the Rostock International House (RIH) at the University of Rostock. The Tandem Program is supposed to welcome our international students and ease their settling into Rostock. The program also helps students already established in the city to use their foreign language skills as well as gain intercultural experience. Aside from individual person-to-person matchings, we also organize international cultural/national nights (Länderabende) and multiple other events to bring diverse students and the cultures they represent together.

Institute of Physics at the University of Rostock
Northern Lights – Physics in Rostock.
“Tradition and Innovatio” - the institute for physics at the University of Rostock (the oldest university in the Baltic area and one of the oldest in Europe) is at the forefront of science. The scientists at the institute work on various topics ranging from optics and photonics, surface and cluster physics to high energy and atto-second physics. Naturally, the PIs of the institute are nationally and internationally well linked and collaborate with more than 100 institutions, universities and companies worldwide. Therefore, the institute is an excellent launchpad for careers either in academia or in industry. And, of course, life in Rostock is very nice. Restaurants, culture, numerous hiking trails, and – last but not least – the beach allow for an excellent work-life-balance.
