This is the pharmacy school where our host of the Medical Explorer Pharmacy Corner, pharmacist, Bob church, attended school. In this episode viewers tour some of the classrooms where pharmacists receive their higher education. We had the opportunity to see the facilities and attend a few classes. Viewers met Assistant Professor, Dr. Edward Avakian and Associate Professor, Jeff Jellin, Pharm. D. Cambodian New Year (Khmer: បុណ្យចូលឆ្នាំថ្មី) or Choul Chnam Thmey in the Khmer language, literally Enter New Year, is the name of the Cambodian holiday that celebrates the New Year. The holiday lasts for three days beginning on New Year's Day, which usually falls on April 13th or 14th, which is the end of the harvesting season, when farmers enjoy the fruits of their labor before the rainy season begins. Khmers living abroad may choose to celebrate during a weekend rather than just specifically April 13th through 16th. The Khmer New Year coincides with the traditional solar new year in several parts of India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Puthandu, Myanmar and Thailand.
Cambodians also use Buddhist Era to count the year based on the Buddhist calendar. For 2016, it is 2560 BE (Buddhist Era). Maha Songkran (មហាសង្រ្កាន្ត)[edit]
Maha Songkran, derived from Sanskrit Maha Sankranti, is the name of the first day of the new year celebration. It is the end of the year and the beginning of a new one. People dress up and light candles and burn incense sticks at shrines, where the members of each family pay homage to offer thanks for the Buddha's teachings by bowing, kneeling and prostrating themselves three times before his image. For good luck people wash their face with holy water in the morning, their chests at noon, and their feet in the evening before they go to bed. More Info :
Stockton is the county seat of San Joaquin County located in the Northern portion of the U.S. State California and the San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, CA Combined Statistical Area, an extension of the Bay Area.[16] Stockton was founded by Captain Charles Maria Weber in 1849 after he acquired Rancho Campo de los Franceses. The city is named after Robert F. Stockton,[17] and it was the first community in California to not have a name of Spanish or Native American origin. The city is located on the San Joaquin River in the northern San Joaquin Valley and had an estimated population of 302,389 as of 2014. Stockton is the 13th largest city in California and the 63rd largest city in the United States. It was named an All-American City in 1999 and again in 2004.
Built during the California Gold Rush, Stockton's seaport serves as a gateway to the Central Valley and beyond. It provided easy access for trade and transportation to the southern gold mines. Stockton has been the location of the oldest university in California, University of the Pacific since 1923. This demonstration video showcases Little Manila Recreated, a virtual reality museum exhibit that reconstructs the now-demolished mid-twentieth century neighborhood in downtown Stockton and tells the history of a place that was once home to the largest population of Filipinos in the United States. This VR exhibit is now on display at the Filipino American National Historical Society and the University of the Pacific Library in Stockton, California.
