Jaaga Living Bldg Vertical Gardens.avi

The Jaaga Living Building Project is an on-going exploration in creating a sustainable, creative, nomadic community. We innovatively use modular, low-cost, racking systems to create low-cost habitable space in dense urban city-scapes.
Founded by Freeman Murray and Archana Prasad in Bangalore, India in August 2009, the project looks at developing an environment that connects people to their habitat organically and dynamically. It constantly looks for ways to engage and exist without weighing heavily on the earth's limited natural resources.
Hannes Wagner, our Artist-in-Residence between June-August 2011, created this film as an artist's take on the Vertical Hydroponic Gardens created as a facade of the building by Eve Sibley.
This film was showcased at the Aedes Gallery as part of their Water - Blessing or Curse exhibition held between September 9-October 22, 2011.

Bobs Wall - Turning an unsightly block wall into a green Feature...
our clients had a problem. There lovely rear deck area & outdoor living space was spoilt by an ugly concrete retaining wall...they asked us for ideas
-we suggested hiding concrete wall with simple green-wall panels, not just attached to wall face, but wrapping over top of wall to create an illusion of a thicker 'hedge' rather than a green 'veneer'
-the transformation was both startling & immediate, the lush green-wall lifted the whole area, providing a wonderful, natural-looking transition from deck to gardens

Vertical Walking - Manually powered Elevator uses 10% as much Energy as climbing Stairs | QPT
Vertical Walking is an experimental prototype designed by a Netherlands company Rombout Frieling Lab. It uses human power to allow movement between floors of a building with only ten percent of the effort needed to climb stairs and without the need for any external power.
The price of urban land is skyrocketing. And another 3 billion people are expected to live in cities: we will be forced to exploit vertical space.
Yet, our populations are ageing and staircases become major bottlenecks. Lifts are rarely a good alternative as they rely on significant external power, they deprive us from daily exercise and are expensive and intrusive to install.
The Vertical Walking prototype has been succesfully tested by a wide range of users including an amputee and an MS sufferer. They found it ‘incredibly cool’.
Vertical Walking uses a system of upright rails that incorporate pulleys and a clever gripping system to allow a user to incrementally move between floors in a building
The major draw back of this system is, only one person can use it at a time. Anyway, we can put many Vertical walking systems as they don't need much space.

Man killed by bullet train after climbing onto tracks at Nanjing station
A man was killed after being struck by a train at Nanjing rail station in Jiangsu Province last Sunday. The man crossed the tracks just as the train was approaching.
The driver immediately stopped, but the man was left trapped between the train and the platform. A team of firefighters and doctors arrived at the scene immediately and tried to save the man.
Unfortunately, after two hours the man died from excessive bleeding.
According to local media, the man intended to cross over to another platform so he jumped on the tracks, but the train pulled into the station before he could climb onto the opposite side.
