Bay Valdanos is on the North West from Ulcinj. It used to be a main harbor of the Ulcinj pirates and the place of many sea battles. Well informed people claim that bay hides the remains of sank ships from the Greek, Roman and medieval period .
Situated between two hills Mavrijan and Mendre, Cove Valdanos is a real den of olive trees. Because of the fact that in Valdanos are 18.000 olive trees, for Ulcinj is often said that it has olive climate.
Compared to other coves, this one is protected from the South and North winds, and it has often served as a shelter to the ships for Ulcinj pirates. The bay from all sides is surrounded by olive groves.

Good connoisseurs of this area say that some olive trees origin from the time of Ancient Greece, while for the majority of the trees it is thought that they are up to 300 years old. The olives have forever in these areas represented goods equal to gold. Olive oil from the area of Ulcinj in amphorae and jugs has reached by trading canals to many cities on the Adriatic coast .
Valdanos bay was recorded underwater archaeological site,where you can expect a significant underwater sites dating back to antiquity.
Valdanos bay is located four kilometers from Ulcinj and is among the most attractive locations in Montenegro.
The beach is 342 meters long and 11 meters wide. There was a military resort, which is not in use, a building area of 8700 square meters.

There are about 18 thousand olive trees, which are on average 800 years old, and according to the Law on olive cultivation in Montenegro, it has been put under special protection of the state. Many trees are older than two thousand years.The Valdanos bay is easily accessed.
It can be reached by the main road from Ulcinj. It is also expected that the reconstruction of the cobble, which passes through the heart of the Ulcinj olive grove, is soon going to begin. In this way it would be much easier to walk through this beautiful area. An extraordinary experience is a visit to the peninsula Mendra as well as to the 11 natural sources inside the olive grove.A very nice experience is also the visit to the Lighthouse, and unforgettable is looking at the sea and the whole area from the Mavrijan Hill. From its top, if the weather conditions allow it, one can enjoy a view all the way from the Otrant Gate to Palagruzha!In Valdanos you can find endemic meadows of the sea flower „Posidonia oceanica“.
This plant known also as sea grass, Voga or Lazhina, is an endemic Mediterrannean species, which means that it only lives in the Mediterrannean Sea and nowhere else! The meadows of Posidonia are the biggest biological varieties of the Meditarrannean Sea.
