Valiyathura Sea Bridge, Thiruvananthapuram
One km away from the Shangumugam beach and half a km away from the Trivandrum International Airport situated the Valiyathura sea bridge. It is a rusting memory of the sea trade once existed in Trivandrum. It has a length of 703 feet and is one of the very few sea bridges in the state. the only port along the south Kerala had located here until it was declared inactive in the early eighties. today this almost ruined pier is used by the traditional fishermen for catamaran fishing. here is some favourites from my collection hope you all like it.

There are many anglers who occupy strategic points on the pier, holding on to their line patiently waiting to hook a fish. Avoiding sophisticated angling gear, these people use their hands to hold the line instead of the angling rod. The anglers here are mostly labourers and daily-wage workers.
The hooks range from 18 to 24 on a single line. There are also hooks that do not need any bait on them. But these should be regularly pulled and loosened in the water in order to attract prey. As the water current is towards the shore, the anglers need something to take the line down to the waters. For this, they use iron weights attached to the line, which provides the thrust while the line is thrown into the sea.Valiyathura Pier
Valiyathura beach | Kerala | Exploring Trivandrum Ep 24
Once the only port along the South Kerala coast, Valiathura Beach is located 10 km away from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. This beautiful beach, situated near Shankhumugham, lost its significance as Kochi gained prominence and is now a simple fishing port. During monsoons, fishermen carry their catamarans to the edge of the Valiathura Pier which is 703 ft. long, throw them into the sea, then jump in and swim to it. The swaying coconut trees and the rolling waves make the perfect backdrop to unwind and enjoy the view.
