வல்லக்கோட்டை வாழ்கின்ற வேல்முருகா வேல்
Vallakottai Subramaniyaswami temple (or Vallakottai Murugan temple) in Vallakottai, a panchayat town in Kanchipuram district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to the Hindu god Murugan. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is located in the Sriperumbudur - Singaperumalkoil road.
The temple has a gateway leading to a pillared hall and the sanctum. The temple is open from 6:30 am – 12:00 pm and 5 - 8:30 pm. Five daily rituals and many yearly festivals are held at the temple, of which the Adi Pooram festival being the most prominent. The temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

As per Hindu legend, there was a demon by name Vallan who was troubling the Devas, the celestial deities. The Devas sought the help of Murugan. He informed them that the time had come to destroy the demon. He eventually waged a war and slayed the demon at the place. He established the place as Vallan Kottai, literally meaning the Fort of Vallan. Indra, the king of Devas, requested his Guru Brihaspathi to suggest a place for him to worship Murugan. He suggested going to Vallakottai, an abode of Murugan. Indra came to Vallakottai, pierced the earth with his weapon Vajrayudha to create a tank to extract water. He performed ablution to image of Murugan at this place and attained his needs. Since Indra created the tank with his Vajrayudha, the temple tank is named as Vajra Theertha.[1]
As per another legend, a king by name Bhagiratha was ruling the Elanji kingdom. He was very haughty to sage Naratha and to teach him a lesson for his behaviour, Naratha infuriated a demon king named Goran to attack Elanji kingdom. Goran was a powerful demon and he made a sudden attack. Bhagiratha was unable to control the forces and eventually lost the battle to Goran. Realising his mistake, he sought the advise of Naratha. The sage advised him to find sage Durvasa, who could find a resolution. The king roamed around the forest for a long time and finally found Durvasa. The sage advised him to worship Murugan at Vallakottai to get back his kingdom. The king worshipped Murugan at this place for a long time and built the temple.[2]

வல்லக்கோட்டை முருகன் கோயில் இந்தியாவின் தமிழ்நாடு மாநிலத்தின் காஞ்சிபுரம் மாவட்டத்தில் திருப்பெரும்புதூரிலிருந்து செங்கல்பட்டு செல்லும் சாலையில் 12 கிமீ தொலைவில் அமைந்துள்ள இந்து சமய முருகன் கோயிலாகும். 1200 ஆண்டுகள் தொன்மையானதாக கருதப்படும் இக்கோயிலின் மூலவர் (முருகன்) திருவுருவம் ஏழு அடி உயரம் உள்ளது; இந்தியாவில் அமைந்துள்ள முருகன் திருவுருவச்சிலைகளில் இதுவே உயரமானதாகும். [1] முருகனின் இரு புறங்களில் வள்ளி, தெய்வானை உள்ளனர். கருவறையைத் தவிர கோயில் சுற்றுகையில் கணபதி, உற்சவ திருவுருவம், சண்முகர் மற்றும் அம்மனுக்கு சன்னதிகள் உள்ளன.
அருணகிரிநாதரின் ஏழு திருப்புகழ் பாடல்களில் இக்கோயில் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளது.

ஸ்ரீபெரும்புதூரில் இருந்து 9 கி.மீ. தொலைவில் இருக்கும் வல்லக்கோட்டையில் வல்லக்கோட்டை முருகன் கோவில் அமைந்து இருக்கிறது. இது 1200 ஆண்டு காலம் பழமை வாய்ந்தது. தமிழகத்திலேயே இக்கோவிலில் இருக்கும் முருகன் 7 அடி முருகன் சிலை தான் மிகப்பெரிய முருகன் சிலை ஆகும்.
ருகப்பெருமானின் துணைவியரான வள்ளி மற்றும் தெய்வாணையின் சிலைகள் இருபுறமும் வைக்கப்பட்டு இருக்கின்றன. துர்வாச முணிவரின் ஆலோசனையின்படி தன் ராஜ்யத்தை திரும்ப பெறுவதற்காக பகரீதன் இந்த கோவிலை கட்டியதாக புராணம் கூறுகிறது. வல்லான் என்கிற அரக்கன் தேவர்களை சித்திரவதை செய்ததாகவும், முருகப்பெருமான் அவனை வீழ்த்தி இவ்விடத்தில் அமைதியை நிலைநாட்டியதாகவும், அவரை பெருமைபடுத்தும்படி இந்த கோவில் கட்டப்பட்டதாகவும் மற்றும் ஒரு புராணச் செய்தியும் கூறப்படுகிறத
வஜ்ர தீர்த்தம் என்னும் தொட்டி இந்த கோவிலில் இருக்கிறது, இது இந்திர தேவனுடைய வஜ்ராயுதத்தினால் உருவாக்கப்பட்டது என்றும் நம்பப்படுகின்றது. சுப்ரமணிய ஸ்வாமியை வழிபடுவதற்காக இந்திரன் இந்த தொட்டியை பயன்படுத்தியதாகவும் கூறுகின்றனர். இக்கோவிலில் ஸ்ரீ விநாயகர், ஸ்ரீ அம்பாள், உத்சவா முருகர் மற்றும் ஸ்ரீ சண்முகர் ஆகிய தெய்வங்களின் சன்னதிகளும் அமைந்திருக்கின்றன. காமாக்ஷி மற்றும் ராமர் ஸ்ரீ ஆஞ்சனேயரை தழுவியபடி இருக்கும் சிற்பவேலைப்பாடுகளும் ஆர்த மண்டபத்தின் தூண்களில் உள்ளன.
பார்வை நேரம் காலை 5:30- மதியம் 1:00 மற்றும் மதியம் 3.00 - இரவு 8:00
இவ்வூரில் கிடைக்கும் 'செங்கழுநீர் பூ' என்னும் மலரின் பெயரில் இருந்தே செங்கல்பட்டு என்கிற பெயர் உருவானதாக கூறப்படுகின்றது. கொலவாய் ஏரியில் தமிழக அரசு சுற்றுலாத்துறை அமைத்துள்ள போட் ஹவுஸ் செங்கல்பட்டின் முக்கிய சுற்றுலா ஈர்ப்பு இடம் ஆகும். எனினும், தற்போது இந்த போட் ஹவுஸ் பயன்பாட்டில் இல்லை. விஜயநகர மன்னர்கள் கட்டிய செங்கல்பட்டு கோட்டையும் செங்கல்பட்டில் இருக்கிறது. காலனி ஆட்சிகால வரலாற்றை இது பொக்கிஷமாக வைத்து இருக்கிறது .
